Hi.i know this is a long shot but does anyone remember the cracking looking blonde landlady of this pub.we are talking circa 1982/3. I have a photo of me dancing with her. This was on a Friday night when this pub used to heaving. Love to know what happened to her.can anyone help?
gpca - 2 Apr 2017 13:06
Sort of an adjunct to the trendy Greenwich Market behind it but this doesn't mean you're a bad pub, far from it. Even has an entrance off the Market which must be good for added trade.

First visit for a long time with the wife on the way to the 02 for a gig. It was very busy as football was on the Saturday evening I came in.

I think my last visit was at least 12 years ago so it was about time I paid another visit.

2 cask ales on the 3 pumps which were both from Adnams. Lighthouse & Ghost Ship, I opted for Ghost Ship, it was drinkable but not the best kept pint I’ve ever had.

4 interesting retro lights hang in the main bar, there are lots of tables and chairs rammed in. The walls are adorned with music artist pictures and this stretches into the back room and the toilets, some very good posters and pictures.

The Hardy is a decent enough pub but it is a bit touristy for me.

seem to have had the decorators in looks quiet good .good beer ,still dead at 5.30ish we must try and get in here before the market shuts it surely must be busier then ?
gpca - 28 Jun 2013 12:28
a strange pub this one get in here about 5.30 6.00 on our crawls can be busy but more often than not its dead and this is on a sat i can only assume it must be busier when the market is in full swing selling snake head soup or elephants ears on toast.it used to be very busy on friday nights. good range of beers though normally very well kept. worth a vist as you are likley to be served quite quickly unlike the gypsy moth
gpca - 16 May 2013 20:33
I was here a couple of months ago.
Music posters on the wall , kind of trendy feel about the place.
Good place to stop off away from the market crowds. It was dead when we were there.
Girlfriend seems to remember an open fire (but I do not ) !
bigaerials - 24 Feb 2013 18:10
I quite liked this pub. Lots of students, pop music memorabillia. They had no real ale on when I went to the bar, but did come and give me a free pint of doombar when they got it going again. Good atmosphere.
Mappiman - 20 Nov 2012 17:33
Dreadful, dreadful pub. Poor, expensive beer, when they have stocks, andf unpleasant staff. Also the belief that everybody wants to watch football (or at least the barman did) and be deafened by said football at a probably illegal volume level Give it a wide berth.
alansmalley - 28 Feb 2011 19:32
Basic pub handy for all of the tourist sites and the market. 2 real ales were on - Sharps Abbey Christmas and Adnams Spiced. A 3rd pumpclip was turned round. There is one large main bar, plus a smaller lounge at the rear. A strange photo of naked women lying in the road seemed to be causing a bit of a stir. It was rather out of character set against the pictures of old naval heroes elsewhere. The toilets left a lot to be desired. Not one I'd choose to return to.
blue_scrumpy - 30 Dec 2010 20:04
Student pub. And a bit below par all round really.
ShelfStacker - 19 Mar 2010 16:47
This used to be a cracking pub for really good food and decent ale. It has gone downhill tremendously in the last two or three years - ropey beer, ear splitting music and the place stinks. The final straw was being served a "plastic" of indiferent beer with the bonus of chewing gum INSIDE the bottom of the glass!
flashharry1965 - 27 May 2009 11:28
This pub is clearly a student pub and as such it would be unfair to judge them too harshly on the Ale but it was pretty poor, clearly the lines are never cleaned and had a stale musty taste. Cheap though so one for people who have no concern about quality and just want to get drunk.
publover25 - 24 Apr 2009 15:13
Better than one would dare hope given the location slap bang in the middle of Greenwich market. Thankfully, most tourists are there for the organic polenta and tie dye silks, tending to ecshew the drinking. This leaves the place to an understated mix of locals and out of towners. It's a relatively relaxing place for a pint on a sunday after exploring this chi-chi borough.
BoehmBawerk - 25 Mar 2009 17:28
this pub was ok, nothing special about the staff or ale though. it was cheaper than most but had a real student vibe so i guess thats why.
aussiefi - 16 Feb 2009 12:26
This place serves fishbowls of cocktails. Literally. It's no wonder Greenwich University's always a cellar dweller in the Times' Rankings.
topdog_andy - 21 Dec 2008 15:04
It's nice to walk into a pub where there are tourists & locals mixed in. The staff are friendly & though I never ordered, the food looked very appetising.
white_van_man - 5 Oct 2008 01:37
The Admiral served up a nice pint of Flowers.

Talkative punters without inaccurate war stories and suggestions for tougher sentancing for apple scrumping.

Smart feel on the inside and a relaxed atmosphere.
terenced - 28 Jul 2008 08:52
This place could be great. The potential is there but unfortunately the nice layout and lighting is spoiled by the shit staff and clientele. When we went in there as part of a night out in Greenwich, the place was full of bone idle student types and couldn't give a feck barmen. Pity because there's a lovely backroom and great pub trying to leap out.
Trevzy - 13 Feb 2008 00:25
In there last night, three ales on tap two of which kept coming up cloudy, staff squirting each other with soft drinks dispenser, music ok.
lionbaz - 23 Dec 2007 15:18
Excellent little watering hole - Rob and his team are superb, with one or two exceptions. Beer always top notch. Highly recommended, although toilets could do with a spruce up and be kept a little more clean.
elthamlass - 17 Oct 2007 14:47
Gets very crowded, especially when they stop people sitting outside, but the drinks are cheap with student deals on and the atmosphere's normally pretty laid back. Mind you, I have seen a couple of fights in here, but that's not uncommon of a weekend.
man_of_kent - 1 Jul 2007 15:28
Had a couple of drinks there with some colleagues before going on to a meeting and really liked the place. It had a good mix of people (students, professionals, tourists) and some decent beers.
Matthew_of_Ham - 22 Jun 2007 00:24
Too smokey.
nutsford - 13 Apr 2007 16:18
The hardy is a great pub, me and my friends love going there most weekends! It's got a friendly, cosy feel to it with a touch of tradition and some 'interesting' art work! The bar staff are really friendly and the decor is great. It does get busy friday and saturday nights but your never left waiting long at the bar, it's definitely worth visiting. And the scrumpy jack is scrumptious!
littlepiggy - 31 Mar 2007 23:06
Full of too cool for christmas studenty types aviod or leave before a fight ensuees
easyskip - 23 Sep 2006 16:57
Bring back CARL and ROB...place not been the same since! back to normal greenwich inc crap!
anonymous - 7 Sep 2006 20:38
Dirty, noisy and busy on Sunday afternoon. I suppose it is a good bolthole for a quick pint if you've been across the road looking at the various museums etc, but not somewhere I'd want to linger.

We had average pints of TT Landlord, served too cold (one other ale - London Pride). Serves the standard selection of keg beers plus some unexciting bottles. Food looked minging.
anonymous - 21 Aug 2006 13:50
Marks for modernising while keeping a bit of local colour/history. 3 cask ales and a few attractive ladies propping up the bar on a monday night. Works for me.
mrfalafel - 14 Aug 2006 19:51
Full of pretentious student types and gets far too hot and stuffy on a weekend night. They used to have a massive tank of tropical fish, which looked impressive. The main attraction is being able to sit out in the market under the heat lamps in the winter. Other than that, there's not much reason to go there.
ST2004 - 27 Jul 2006 12:20
excellent pubm very welcoming and in a great location.
dynamicbaddog - 3 Apr 2006 13:38
A strange beast, this one. Great location, great atmosphere and decor, and the outdoor seating in the market is fantastic. But it's really badly run, the staff are incompetant at best, rude at worst. The beer selection is awful, the glasses are often dirty or cracked. It's OK for an afternoon pint sitting in the market, but avoid it like the plague on weekend nights when it's full of students and chavs jostling for the now limited space since they put a ridiculously large fishtank in.
anonymous - 28 Mar 2006 12:06
Not a nice interior, and the beer selection was hopeless. Very disappointing as it tends to get good write-ups.
anonymous - 20 Mar 2006 09:58
Went there a couple of times. Good back area. Now it is Over 21's only. Really good seating area in the market
casual66 - 4 Jan 2006 21:31
Not bad but was much better before Greenwich Inc got their hands on it. Caters now for tourists and students......nothing wrong with that but standards have slipped.
GreenwichGraham - 17 Oct 2005 22:56
love the admiral, could do with a better choice of guest beers, but perfect for dates and summer piss up with the lads alike. a classic for many years to come.

philkaypisshead - 26 Sep 2005 21:25
I'm not sure about the staff being pretentious as has been commented, I've always found them to be friendly plus I've not seen many rich kids, and I've been going to this pub for 7 years now, sure it's a bit studenty but that is part of the appeal, the outside area is great during the summer and even the winter when they have the heaters, plus the back area is a very chilled out place to sit, talk and have a pint. Im in the place at least twice a week so it must be good to keep my attention for so long. Oh yeah and lets not forget the naked street photo on the wall above the fireplace, thats go to be worth a good 10 minutes.
brooky - 20 Sep 2005 14:23
I like this bar, esp the back area, nice and dark so good to go on dates mid-week. bit too busy & smokey at the weekends, but perfect atmosphere and great cheesy music. Full of Greenwich-trendys but everywhere is these days... except Wetherspoons & Auctionner but lets face it, unless your 16, they're a pile of w**k!! Great bar!!
grolsch_gal83 - 25 Jul 2005 12:45
This has become quite a trendy student bar. Like the Trafalgar this place usually sells Nelson beers. Can become uncomfortably crowded.
SilkTork - 19 Jul 2005 20:04
Nice for a romantic few drinks in the back room with the sofas! Staff seem like a nice bunch
anonymous - 12 Nov 2004 13:37
the staff are so glum and boring, all try far too hard. Beer ok. but not as good as about 3-4 years ago in its peak.
danny - 14 Oct 2004 14:19
great location, shame about the slightly pretentious staff, rich kids with trendy clothes, who are riding the wave of the greenwich "scene"to the detriment of decent service.give me the kings arms any day!
Pete - 8 Jul 2004 00:09
Went & watched the England V Switzerland game there last night, had a big TV screen projected on the wall out in the market. Great atmosphere...... Out in the market. HATE it inside though, too dark & staff are dopey :(
Terry Simmons - 18 Jun 2004 14:40
I went off this place about a year ago, don't know why but it just seemed to lose a bit of its charm. But I'm happy to say that what ever went away is definitly coming back, and the good old Hardy that we all know and love is getting back to its former glory! Whats with the empty fish tank though?
Alex - 15 May 2004 11:36
Cool music, cool staff, cool decor, cool pub.
Leon - 15 May 2004 11:21
the Hardy has to be one of the most unique pubs in greenwich. the music is always good and varies from grunge to hip-hop. the staff all seem cool and are always friendly. its pretty small so it gets quite rammed at the weekend, but you never have to wait that long to get a drink. and now they've got the tables and chairs out in the market, the hardy is definitly not one to be missed this summer.
nic - 15 May 2004 11:08
It's been done up nicely, but the crowd are dreadful and the barstaff are the same kind of slightly cluess chinless wonders which you'll find in the Trafalgar Tavern. But of a missed opportunity, really.
Darryl - 12 Apr 2004 17:33
Nice little pub good Dj's on the weekend

ian - 9 Mar 2004 15:01
The Hardy used to be a decent, independent pub with character & charming barstaff. Unfortunately in the last 12 months it has become part of a bland chain of Greenwich pubs. Not the worst pub in the town centre by any means but make the effort to visit the likes of The Coach or The Greenwich Union first - these are the centre of the new Greenwich cool & leave the Hardy/Inc Bar/Bar Du Musee etc for the Burberry brigade, students & tourists.
Batnie - 1 Mar 2004 23:21
what has happened to Greenwich? this boozer used to be great now run by cretins whats going on. dirty glasses rude staff awful music and toilets a disgrace
clare B - 24 Feb 2004 20:18
just had a jar in hardy. i used to love it and well i also lived there too!changes happen sometimes not for the best but hey it can only get better. miss the real ales in perfect nik though.
dougie - 24 Feb 2004 18:57
Used to be a regular here but in the last few months it's character has changed immensely - gone are the friendly old barstaff that knew your name & all the local gossip. It's turned into a kind of mixed up student pub/yuppie bar with crappy drinks promotions & other such gimmicks - I suppose it has to try & compete with Wetherspoons down the road. A sad decline for a pub which stood out from the Greenwich crowd for a few brief years.......
GJW - 23 Dec 2003 16:24
great new website!! reflects exactly what it is! admiralhardy.co.uk
stefanie - 26 Nov 2003 17:07
Great pub, bit pricey but the interior is brilliant very cosy and welcoming. The best pub in london for chilling out by far
toby - 23 Oct 2003 20:49
Great pub for lazy Sunday afternoons with the papers. Staff can be a bit dozy though.
Seb - 21 Oct 2003 16:40
Quite a nice pub, was in there last week. Was on a bit of a crawl so had a pint in there and came back later the evening. The barman even remembered I drink guiness, and there was a well fit bird working with him. I think i spent too long looking at her arse though
David - 6 Oct 2003 03:05
Absolutely superb establishment. Awesome staff. Was my local for a year and I sorely miss it
Joe - 25 Sep 2003 16:56
Used to be a real old dive - literally spit and sawdust. Now it's a bit plastic spit-and-sawdust. Not bad, gets a bit busy though.
Darryl - 10 Jul 2003 20:28
Very good beer, pleasant staff but a little too small and smokey for me.
Marcus - 10 Jul 2003 18:31
one a friday or saterday this isn't really a great place to be, it takes a long time to get a drink and many of the patriots seem far to out of place. on a sunday this is a wonderful pub full of some off the local students in the area, all very well dressed. if you arive early enougth to get a chair in the back or one of the sofa's your in for a good day
james - 26 May 2003 22:41
