please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Modern cavernous 'spoons situated in a prominant location on the junction of Friargate and the A59.

It’s 10.30pm when I enter and it's pretty empty, though to be honest the pub is huge. On the bar are 10 hand pumps, not a great choice with most of them being the ‘spoons national brands, though I do spot Acorn’s Old Moor Porter @ 4.4%, I use my camra voucher and this of course make the ale taste much better.

Another pub with older punters, quick and friendly service and has a nice atmosphere.

It’s worth a tick but it's a regular 'spoons so don’t be disappointed.

Very busy early evening on St. Patrick's day - the Wetherspoon beer festival had started and I enjoyed a pint of Bateman's Lincolnshire Red; at £1.70 after the 50P voucher deduction it was a real bargain as well if not particularly distinguished..

Remains one of the best value pubs in Preston. An ever changing range of guest ales and deals on wines, spirits and cocktails. A good range of excellent food including early breakfasts. Sometimes difficult to get served (ironically at quiet times) due to lack of staff. Watch out for beer and cider festivals when you can sample three different brews for the price of a pint. Use this place as a jumping off point for the many great pubs on Friargate and you may well end up returning or even staying!

Cavernous JDW pub. Friendly and efficient service and well-kept cask ale. Worth a visit in this well-pubbed area of Preston. 7/10.

Close to the town center and busy any time of day. Excellent value, particularly the food which is very good and special deals include a free drink. Because of this the pub can occasionally attract some 'dodgy' clientele. However, its a very spacious venue and you can almost always find a quiet, comfortable corner and avoid the 'lively' element. I often take my family here and would recommend it to others.

my visit was spoilt by the slow service and the mindless foul mouthed yobs that were in the place.

A Very dull uninspiring looking wetherspoon outlet especially from the outside.Inside is extremely spacious and open plan. The service was friendly and 8 different ales were on offer(2.10pint).My pint was spot on. 7/10

This is a very good JD house. The beers were in excellent condition, and the pub was one of those hostelries where you feel at home. I could happily sup all night in here!

A significantly better than average Wetherspoons in the town centre. The interior is typical Wetherspoons. It is large and open plan with a large standing area around the bar and plenty of tables and seating elsewhere. The beer range was good - Ringwood Forty Niner, Theakston Old Peculier, Lymestone Stone Cutter, Thornbridge Jaipur IPA, Battle of Burton Bridge Burton Brew, Adnams Broadside, Greene King IPA, Orkney Dark Island, Ruddles Best and George Wright Kick for Clic. Westons Organic and Old Rosie were available from the fridge.

An excellent Wetherspoons pub, with a good selection of well kept real ales. Could have spent all day in here with no problem, but I was a visitor to Preston and so I thought I had better have a bit of a look around the town as well. Recommended.

Very busy Wetherspoons pub. Several ales on, including a superbly kept Phoenix Wobbly Bob, however 4 of the beers went off as I was at the bar and didn't look like being replaced in any hurry. Which none of them had when I left almost an hour later.

A general point, and not just about this pub.Why don't wetherspoons train their staff to line the bar up ?Its really annoying to wait for service, then have some ignorant chav get served before you. This is a problem in all the wetherspoons I've been in.

Went in here with the family for Sunday Lunch. The place was busy and they did warn me that there was a delay but our order came out in good time and all four meals were actually rather good. Plenty of real ales on and the two Acorn beers that I tried were in good condition. The table next door had been vacated by a family with a little girl in a high chair. They had made no effort to tidy up after themselves - what an attitude some people have. Fortunately there was a young girl doing her best to tidy up and keep the place presentable. One of the better Wetherspoons that I have visited.

About the usual for a Wetherspoon's really - a wide selection of ale at a very decent price, can be horrendously busy, but alright when it's not. Not the most cosy of places as it's really big and open, so it's not somewhere to spend a whole evening really, but not bad for a stop off on the way to somewhere else. The Old Black Bull across the road gets my custom more often.

This is one of the realy large spoons, good food served, usual beers are Marstons Pedigree,Thwaites mild,Theakstons best bitter and Old Peculiar,Boddingtons,John Smiths,Fosters,Carlsberg,San Miguel,Carling,Strongbow,4 guest beers,Old Rosie and Original in boxes numerous bottled ciders and beers,Smiths @ 1.35 a new cheap pub has just opened in Preston so the cheap beer brigade has moved there.
Partialy none smoking,2 disabled entrances, but it's main problem is you move away from the windows and it is very dark.
Nice manager and mrs (also a manager) most staff are freindly, and what seems to be a major problem with spoons is the toilets are only up about 6 steps, well worth a visit, about 5 minutes walk from the railway station (loads of good pubs nearby including 4 real ale pubs)

Massive drinking hall of a place. Alright as a place to get a few cheap drinks in and the selection isn't bad, but it is always going to be a chain pub with a massive room and not a lot of atmosphere.
NoCoolNickname - 24 Jun 2005 00:54
strange as there's no music - must be the only place in town that doesn't have it blasting out! Cheap
jemma18 - 20 Jun 2005 20:29
I AM SHOUTING!

An incredibly big and popular Wetherspoons - Bit rough and ready with the locals, but cheap enough.
