The considerable character that The George once had has been swept away by over-zealous new owners. What a terrible shame! You only have to look at the new signs outside to know - all lower-case and not a capital letter to be seen; "the george in rye". The bar has been extended, and would grace any bland hotel-chain clone. Oh, and they've painted the outside in a suitable shade of grey.

A very good village pub, with excellent food. The previous landlord kept half the large garden when he sold the pub in 2007, and has built a house for himself.

The Ypres Castle Inn, Rye
Was once one of Rye's best. Very odd new staff. Steep steps preclude all but the fittest from getting to it (from either direction). Pleasant setting.
