I said to him: "Is that your wife in the corner with the stetson on?"

He said: "Yes, it is. We're waiting for the divorce papers to come through."

"Is she of sound mind and body?" I replied.

"Yes," he confirmed.

"Good, I'll get me coat."

I stayed here 27 years ago with Lord Funnock of Fife, my probation officer for the current financial year. He is a tender and caring man, despite what it says in the registry of peers.
I had a pint of Su Pollard pale ale and, from the brunch menu, a warm salad of deep fried battered goose and Okra.
His Lordship slept.
I will definitely be urinating against their door someday soon.

Absolutely dreadful beyond belief.
When we stayed for the weekend there was all sorts of building work in progress. Noisy, dirty but still very expensive.
We left a day early as we could take no more.
The food looked OK but was nothing special.
Overpriced, shocking and shambolic. Don't eat, drink or stay here.

Stayed the weekend at the hotel and visited the bar a few times over the weekend. Disappointing not to be told the dining room was closed so had to have dinner in bar too. Food was great but the scary head waitress shouting to the bar staff didn't do much for the atmosphere (WHO MOVED MY KEYS!!!) and in response to the lumpen bread - YES ITS NOT VERY GOOD IS IT. Lots of long faces behind the bar, but we did get great service from one barman. And some of his excellent cocktails, rosemary and thyme thing was amazing. Compared notes with fellow guests at anotehr estaurant the next night and they too found the atmosphere strained and not helped by Herself bellowing across the bar. Easy stuff to fix. But i expected better at these prices.

Lunched in the Tap Room during Rye Bay Scallop Festival. Beautifully appointed bar, charming bar staff, interesting selection of well kept beers and home made pork scratchings.

Unfortunately the food turned out to be execrable. Our 'Scallop, Cod and Saffron Leek Pie' turned out to be a mush of volcanically hot mashed potato, the faintest hint of scallop and cod, no leeks or saffron and (worst) bulked out with farmed salmon. We also saw people consuming Scallops with salad, in which the scallops had clearly been sliced into three - so about 1.5 scallops per £7+ serving.

Back to the good points - we complained about the 'pie', our complaint was taken seriously and were not charged for it. We were told a new head chef is imminent. I sincerely hope so, because they have got everything else right.
