The Royal Oak, Newick

6 walkers had an excellent lunch here on Saturday 15th and the Harveys beer was also in top condition.

Gardeners, Southfields

The beer is good now, but it's a pity the pub no longer has any character and is very noisy.

The Old Garage, Southfields

I came here yesterday, had a nice pint of IPA out of the handpump, thought the place had improved. Returned today to find an extremely rude barmaid who didn't even seem to know what a handpump was, and insisted I should drink chilled bitter. Left without buying anything and will not return.

I can't work out what this place is trying to be, but it doesn't feel like a pub, nor a bar, nor a restaurant.

Gardeners, Southfields

I have been here 4 times since the excellent refurbishment and have had 4 bad to indifferent pints of bitter. Have decided to stop visiting until I hear they have solved whatever problem they have with their cellar.

The Shepherd and Dog, Fulking

All I can say is that I came here two Sunday lunchtimes, found the prices reasonable, the food good and the staff polite. On the second occasion, my three friends agreed with my high opinion of the place.

Wattenden Arms, Kenley

I was pleasantly surprised to find this pub while on a walk. The London Pride was good, and although the menu was a standard corporate one, I ordered a baguette with tuna fish which was good and sufficient for me. The service was polite and the RAF memorabilia interesting.

The Wheatsheaf Inn, Grayswood

We had a warm welcome on Sunday lunchtime and the food was excellent.

The Four Horseshoes, Long Sutton

A really excellent traditional pub, run by a couple, with a changing variety of real ales and superb home cooked food. Friendly to walkers.

The Poacher, South Warnborough

I have been told by the landlady of the Four Horseshoes in Long Sutton that the pub will re-open next week, 9th October 2006.

The Poacher, South Warnborough

Came here on Sat 16 Sep 2006, and found the place closed with a sign on the door saying "not open to the public" (or something similar), and a builder's site hut outside. Does anyone know if or when this pub will re-open?

The Mill at Elstead, Elstead

Here,
A bevy of beautiful barmaids
Compose copious collations
and deliver draughts of delightful ale.
Need I say more?

The Swan Hotel, Haslemere

An excellent Wetherspoons pub, friendly service and good beer. The desserts seemed quite popular on a Sunday evening.

The Three Horseshoes, Thursley

Apparently this pub was closed for a while, and I admire what the landlord has done in making it viable again. I would have liked to come here with a group of walkers, as it is well located on the Greensand Way. However, on a Sunday, the beer was indifferent, and a plate of boiled pasta with a standard sauce, no salad, and no bread, cost me 11. That was the cheapest thing on the menu. Lots of families were there, and maybe that is the market they aim for (but I noticed a lot of food left over "because the portions were too big"-??). I can't bring my walking friends here. Neither a good restaurant nor a good pub.

The Skimmington Castle, Reigate Heath

A great pub, with excellent food and beer, friendly to walkers.

The White Horse, Hascombe

A good pub, popular with walkers. Beer was good and this was one of the handful of places which served salad dressing with their salad. Very busy and deservedly so.

The Pig and Whistle, Earlsfield

Opens one hour later than most other pubs in the area, beer is always good and the staff are friendly. The other customers also seem quite civilised. I haven't seen any pyjamas since I started patronising the place in late Summer. I like this pub.

The Abinger Arms, Abinger Hammer

The beer and food were both excellent on a Sunday lunchtime, the place was not busy and the service was prompt.

The Park Tavern, Southfields

If you like your bitter with an inch of froth on it, this is the place for you! I shall not return. It is a pity they wasted so much money on the refurbishment without removing the cause of why everybody stopped going there in the first place.

The Park Tavern, Southfields

I agree that the refurbishment is excellent, but the impression was ruined by a surly barmaid who didn't know how to pull a full pint of expensive bitter that wasn't even in good condition. I'll give it about a month then return to see if they have learnt their trade.

The Old Jail, Cudham

On a Sunday lunchtime, all tables were reserved except for one. I was told I couldn't sit at the vacant table which was not reserved as the pub didn't have enough seats for it. I take a dim view of having to sit at the bar to eat my meal, but at least the beer was good.

The King and Queen, Caterham

The service was very friendly, excellent beer and good food.
