The Regent, Balham

I have to say, I thought this place was pretty good. Went there for the SA v Aus Tri nations game on Saturday, and really enjoyed it. Vocal, but well mannered crowd.
Service was quick and with a smile. Grub was decent enough.
I'd deffo go there again. Ale drinkers would be disappointed, but then you shouldn't really expect weird and wonderful brew in a place like this.
It's not going to win pub of the year, but then again it's not trying to.

The Magpie, Bishopsgate

"It's full of suits, blah blah blah.... Here's the news - No suits drinking during the week = No Magpie !
It's the city for goodness sake, what do you expect ?
Smashing pub, that's well run, with above average beer & service. A treat to stand outside summertime, with no traffic flying past. Well worth a visit, considering the dross surrounding the Liverpool St area.

The Crosse Keys, Bank

I love the review from 'rpadam - "Full of city types". What do you expect ? It's smack bang in the middle of the city, where people wear suits ! Barely anyone actually lives round there, so who else apart from the odd builder or tourist is going to pay it a visit ?!
Rant over with. Wonderful building, and big enough to get lost in. Service a little on the slow side when it starts to get busy, but you can't fault the fluid on sale. Watch the stairs down to the loo's when you're 4-5 down. A little tricky...

The Victoria Tavern, Loughton

Wonderful little pub. Well kept by a Landlord who takes real pride in the place. Beers & Bitters always immaculate, and the food has always been good. Backs on to Epping Forest, so a good excuse to pop in after that exhausting walk in the Forest.
Quite simply a 'must' if you're in the area.

The Barracuda Bar, Bishopsgate

I do like this place. Excellent range of Southern Hemisphere bottled lagers, service with a smile, and nearly always a decent crowd. The biggest compliment I can pay this place is that it handles big crowds very well. None of this waiting around for 10 minutes to get served lark. And the Tequila girl on Friday evenings.....Now that is a right TOUCH !

Plume Of Feathers, Loughton

Until January a decent pub and place to eat. Appears it's now under new management... Saturday night, the new manager was getting hammered at the bar with his mates. Fire alarm went off for half an hour and only eventually fisnished when the battery run out... Warehouse rave volume music.
I'll give it another trip to see if it was a one off, but I'm not hopeful.

Sir Winston Churchill, Loughton

1.30 for a pint of John Smiths & 1.60 for a Fosters ! But the catch is you're drinking in a Hell hole and surrounded by the local losers. Gets a 2/10 from me, that's only because the beers cheap and they've a decent Plasma to watch the footie on.

Corney and Barrow, Broadgate

Laughable place. I mean, what were they thinking ?! It's not a bar, it's a scout hut.

Woodins Shades, Liverpool Street

Saw the mother of all fights in here last week. It was a bit like WWF Tag team wrestlemania. Went upstairs to avoid the jousting, and stumbled across some pinstripped suited / pink tied back office oiks sampling Turbo Shandys......Made for the exit SHARPISH.

The Crispin, Moorgate

The only thing that saves this place is that it's a good place to stand outside when the sun has got his hat on, and the Landlord is avery nice chap. Tis true that one emerges from this establishment smelling like you've been rolling around the ashtray for an hour, but that aside, not a bad place to sample the local firwater.

The Counting House, Bank

My Bank is now a trendy wine bar.... Well a boozer anyway. Totally agree with comments about having to wait an age to get served. Members of staff come across as either gormless or just darn right ignorant. If you get served in the evening within 5 mins, give yourself a pat on the back as you've done bloody well !
