The Imperial Arms, Farnborough

Closed!!!! says for refurbishment, however local newspaper reports suggest a bleak future for this pub, don't be surprised if it doesn't open it's doors ever again. :o(

The Green Dragon, Bungay

Popped in there last thursday (9th sept '10) and had a few cracking pints of the strong mild 5.6% @ only 2.60 a pint, be sure to ask for it as it's on tap and not on the pumps. yummy

The Ham and Blackbird, Farnborough

Just been past this place and a big sign says "Public house - under new management", all beefeater signs have been removed, will have to pop in and see what it's like now.
Will report back soon.

The Crossways Inn, Churt

The Beer festival is indeed this coming weekend July 9th,10th and 11th, I would expect there top be in excess of 30 beers available, as well as ciders .

Tumbledown Dick, Farnborough

Sadly this is not going to be the new "Wetherspoons", that is going in under the new hotel near sainsburys.

Tumbledown Dick, Farnborough

Sadly still boarded up, no news on if or when this could open again, the future at the moment looks very bleak for this great music venue/pub. :o(

The Prince of Wales, Farnborough

30+ beers and a few ciders too. Hot food available.
Don't miss it, if the past ones have been anything to go by this is going to be great .

The Blue Boar Hotel, Maldon

what can I say about this pub, except fantastic.
Visited last saturday (10/10/09) and was met by the head brewer who promptly invited us on a tour of the brewery and gave a brief history lesson on the hotel and the brewery, we then went and sampled the ales, Nelsons Blood, pucks Folly, King Green and Golden Boar, all straight from the barrel and all in tip top condition, so good was it that we had to return that same evening to sample them all again, great food too, the ham egg chips and onion rings really hit the spot, pub grub along with a more substantial menu is available and a pretty reasonable price I thought a nice beer garden too just the place to relax and enjoy great beer from a brewer who really cares what people think about his beers.
Oh and while you are their, if it is open don't forget to stock up on the bottled beers , we managed to take home 8 different beers to try. 10 out of 10 from me.

Artichoke, Bungay

What can you say about this pub except truly excellent!!
8 beers available, four on the bar and 5 in the tap room,
all priced between 2.40-2.80 a pint, as well as 3 belgian fruot beers on draught too.
Available on our visit were:

Draught

Elgoods black dog mild
Oakham JHB
Adnams
Batemans Miss South africa

On Tap

woodfordes nelsons revenge
Adnams Broadside
Fat Cat wild Cat

we sampled most of them and they were all in cracking form, the Landlord here really knows how to look after his beer.
The locals were very friendly and chatty and the food was superb
A quiet Pub no flashing lights or music, somewhere to relax, enjoy a conversation . good beer and beer and good food
.
This is a must visit.

The Victoria, Earl Soham

Visited this pub for a few beers and lunch on a quiet Monday, fantastic a real gem, four cracking beers from the Earl Soham brewery at reasonable prices, great food and a very friendly landlord, we tried the Victoria, Albert,Sir Rogers porter and the Gold all in tip top condition, well worth seeking out.

Ye Olde White Hart, Frimley

Penfold, I wonder , did you speak to the staff about your food or did you just accept it and do nothing?
I am sure if you had taken time to speak to the staff they would have sorted this out for you.

Neal, see my other post re the beers. as for News and Ales, that is down to local Camra members to put them into the pub.( That is is if teh pub allows them)
It is a pub that serves food.

13 Feb 2009 18:07

Ye Olde White Hart, Frimley

Popped in last Friday 6th Feb, found the refurb very nice, a nice place to enjoy the company of friends, no loud music, no pool table and no telly that I could see, wonderful. ales on tap, Hogs Back Tea, London Pride, Greene King IPA and Abbot ale, I had the Tea and it was in tip top condition and just 2.60 a point, a couple of my friends where eating and had no problem with the food at all.
Staff are friendly and the lady who served me knew her real alea , and commented that she worked at beer festivals too, this is a good sign.
All in All a job well done.

13 Feb 2009 18:02

Ye Olde White Hart, Frimley

There is now a sign outside, stating that the White Hart will re-open, after a complete refurbishment.

28 Oct 2008 18:43

The Prince of Wales, Farnborough

A real gem of a pub, a good , ever changing selection of real ales complimented by a front bar set of regular ales, good quality beer served how it should be.
a slightly cheaper "session" ale is usually available, and food is good too.
One not to miss, a yearly beer festival is held in October and features a good selection of around 30/40 beers and 2 or 3 ciders.

28 Jun 2008 19:20

The Swan, Farnborough

Gastro-pub, be warned.

28 Jun 2008 19:15

Klasterni Pivovar Strahov, Prague

Visited here last mone (june 2008) and found it very pleasant, there were 3 beers on the amber, dark and the seasonal which was a delicious wheat beer.
Prices are a little higher than some places but it is well worth a visit, the food is good and reasonably priced, a lovely setting in the shadow of the monastery.
the staff are very freindly and the head brewer very chatty too.
One trip you must put on the itinerary.
Warning I would advise getting there early as it does get very busy.

28 Jun 2008 19:11

The George and Dragon, Prague

went back just to see if had improved, it hadn't, if you are a chemical swiller who loves bars that play loud music then this is the place for you, if however you want to sample a real czech bar then avoid this place like the plague, search out the quiet back street bars a few minutes walk from the city centre for a proper drink.

7 Jun 2008 18:29

Novomestsky Pivobar, Prague

two visits to this bar a year apart, and it still seems a good as ever, both the light and dark beers were on top form, nice paprika pretzels too and reasonable prices to boot.

7 Jun 2008 18:26

U-Vejvodu, Prague

just got back from Prague today 07.06.08 and you will be pleased to hear that this bar is still as good as ever, the Kozel dark was on top form as was the "Master brew", food looks as good as ever, you must visit this bar.

7 Jun 2008 18:23

The George and Dragon, Prague

awful, went into it to watch a football game last year and the noise from the music deafened you, couln't hear yourself think, overpriced, slow service and everything I try to avoid when out drinking.
caters for the "Brits abroad" stag parties, so bewarned.

30 May 2008 23:48

U Fleku, Prague

a so called "traditional" beer hall with all the trimmings of a tourist trap, that said beer is reasonable, however you are rather treated like cattle and the beer is just plonked down in front of you and you really have to persist in getting them to stop serving you.

30 May 2008 23:45

U-Vejvodu, Prague

great pub/bar visited it last year and really enjoyed it, looks like a small bar until you discover the downstairs drinking hall eating area, it's huge.
good value beer and food, during the week it seems to be a place that the locals visit, not to sure abot the weekends though.
friendly staff and good service, although expect to wait a bit longer when it's busy.
A must visit on your trip.
will be back in Prague next week, and can't wait to visit it again.

30 May 2008 23:43

The Crossways Inn, Churt

The annual beer festival is 11th-13th july this year (2008) usually around 30+ beers on, a date for your diary, and a must visit !!!!!!!! get there early to bag a table. :o)

if you only got to one beer fest this year make it this one.

19 May 2008 19:29

The Fleece Hotel, Bungay

I like Adnams so popping in when we are in Bugay visiting family is a real treat, beer is in good nick and the regulars friendly.

19 May 2008 19:21

The Green Dragon, Bungay

A cracking pub, that we manage to visit a couple of times a year, great beers friendly locals, good food and a real fire , what more could you want?
on our last visit we popped in on quiz night, and even though we arrived after it had started we were invited to join in, and were given the questions we had missed, we were even given a litle help with "local knowledge" round.
spent a couple of very pleasant evenings there chatting with the local regulars who made us feel more than welcome.
If you get the chance make sure you pop in.

19 May 2008 19:18

The Chequers, Bungay

sadly this pub is not what it once was, we manage to visit it once or twice a year, and on the past few visits it has gone downhill fast, only a couple of beers on, not the veritable beer fest that it once used to be, landlord(grumpy) was the only person in there, quality not that good, all in all a sad loss leaving the "Green Dragon" to now carry the mantle as Bungay's top real ale pub.

19 May 2008 19:13

Tumbledown Dick, Farnborough

Latest word on the street is that this could well be a "Wetherspoons" in the not to distsant future.

19 May 2008 19:07

Ye Olde White Hart, Frimley

closed at the moment, sign says "For repairs", many rumours are flying about regarding this pub, one even claims is could be demolished to make way for flats/houses.
Watch this space.

2 Mar 2008 12:37

The Prince of Wales, Farnborough

still the best Pub for miles, a great range of beers on, and a "session" at 2.40, Dark star-Hophead at the moment which is in superb condition, a credit to the Landlord Peter.
A must visit pub if you are in the area( or not )

2 Mar 2008 12:34

The Swan, Farnborough

As has been said below , this is not the pub it once was, complete facelift and refurb has left it feeling more like a wine bar than a pub, only two beers on London pride and Sharpes Doom bar which was a little warm and 2.90 a pint. myself and friends used to visit this pub before going to watch our local football team, however I was told( in a rather patonising manner) that football shirts will not be allowed to be worn as of next week, and that a smarter dress code is preffered, One feels that the aims of the owners are to try and capture the eaters rather than the drinkers, and to lure the "posher" people in rather than those who were regulars here before.
You have been warned.

2 Mar 2008 12:31

The Crossways Inn, Churt

Cracking pub, great atmosphere, fantastic ever changing range, of top quality ales.

HOLDING IT'S ANNUAL BEER FESTIVAL ON THE WEEKEND OF JULY 21ST

1 Jul 2007 19:04

The Chequers, Farningham

we revisited the pub not to long ago and found it had improved 100% since our last visit, it has indeed changed hands, however the beer range was very good , we tried, Dark Star Hophead,Woodfordes Wherry, Timothy Taylor Landlord, Mill brewing co Dartford Wabblor, also on were Fullers Esb, Discovery ,London Pride and Larkins Traditional, those we tried were in excellent condition.
The food was superb, and an extensive menu to cater for all tastes and pockets.
the interior has not changed to much, a tasteful mural of a county scene takes up most of the walls but this is done in a subdued way and adds to the charm of this once again top pub.

22 Mar 2006 20:52

The Chequers, Farningham

We visited this "haven" last saturday (15.10.2005), as on may previous visits we have always found, the food and beer excellent, however we noticed that the decor had chaned somewhat and two young ladies behind the bar, who , how shall I put this , seemd to have little grasp of the english language and took sometime to get our order right( two drinks and a packet of peanuts).
Instead of the ususal 6 beers only two were avialable, one of which was not in the best condition.
we found out is has changed hands, hopefully the lack of beer is a small blip, but be warned don't expect it to be what is once was.

18 Oct 2005 22:08

The Prince of Wales, Farnborough

Good selection of real ales, always in tip top condition, front bar has regulard , hog's back T.E.A, fullers london pride, youngs ordinary, ringwood old thumper, back bar has four ever changing guests, a session beer of (usually) lower o.g. is always avalable at a special price . last visit august 05 it was fullers dicovery @ 2.30 a pint.
Prices do vary and some may say they are a bit on the expensive side, however you do get a good choice and exceptional quality.
