The Merchants Inn, Rugby

Rugbys #1 stand out Town Centre pub.

Staggers me that this pub is not emulated by anyone else in Rugby, as this pub is large and generally packed at the weekend.

Superb ales, and one of the best ranges of Ciders in the Midlands.

Raglan Arms, Rugby

Agree location is just off the centre, but this is a really superb real ale pub, with proper traditional boozer decor.

If you're visiting Rugby for real ale, this would be one of the top 3 boozers.

The Orchard Inn, Bristol

Well with over 20 Ciders to choose from where could you go wrong.... If you don't know your ciders...very wrong.
I absolutely loved the atmosphere of this city pub (tucked away from the thronging crowds) but scored it as 9 because a bit of early guidance on the Cider would have scored it a 10.
Cheap food too.
Very interesting local clients, sometimes a bit rowdy, but fun.

The Old Fourpenny Shop Hotel, Warwick

Dear me... how could this pub get rated 7.5 when it is the jewel of the Midlands for ale quaffers?

Very comfortable smart drinking area.

As Nick says they always have at least 6 excellent beers on, and the landlord treats them like his bairn.

The Pitchfork is always on, and is manner from heaven for lovers of straw coloured hoppy ales. Hard to beat? Nay impossible.

If you get the chance to try their home made chips (served with steak sandwiches etc well worthwhile.

There is good quality accommodation, and the owners can be entertaining.

The New Dungeon Ghyll Hotel, Langdale

This is one of my all time favourites...
There have been a succession of vaguely surly landlords who entertain themselves at the expense of the unknowing tourist (self included), but deliver some of the best beer and surroundings in the world!

The Blue Anchor, Helston

Every time I walk into this pub (which unfortunately has only been half a dozen times) I always end up stumbling out...
The beer brewed on site is absolutely georgeous!!
Truly marvellous (bit sketchy) memories.
They do really great traditional food, and if you think the cornish paties here are huge you should try the baker up the hill and to the right (High Street) the large ones could feed a family of four.
One of my top 3 pubs. See St Kew Inn (St Kew) and Old Dungeon Ghyll (Great Langdale).

Yes get rid of the Gas Guzzling idiots who both ruin our environment, and want to convert exquisite country pubs like this to childrens entertainment centres where Tarquin will not catch any germs from dirty old flagstones!!

The only guzzling that should be going on is the superb array of beers/ wines, and the fantastic food.

One of my top 3 pubs - See Old Dungeon Ghyll, Langdale and Blue Anchor, Helston.

I only wish it wasn't a four hour drive for me, as it costs me a fortune oin the Bentley! (joking)

Shoulder of Mutton, Grandborough

Every time I visit this pub I find myself thanking the landlord for keeping his beer so well.
The Adnams Broadside is heavenly also has Abbot, and Fuller London Pride and A N Other. All very well kept.
Also very popular for Sunday Lunch.

It is one of my top 3 local favourite watering holes.

The Little Lark, Studley

What can I say, you walk in the front door and cut your way through the smoke to discover a bunch of locals chinwagging.
The beer is good, plus a range of fruit wines, and you must try the cider warmed up - boy that hits the spot.
Desperate Dan Cow Pie is Luurvely.
Formerly a printing press with lots of very funny material posted around the walls.
Yes it can be smoky but boy it's worth it!!

The Case is Altered, Five Ways

Charm exemplified for anyone who likes to visit a pub that hasn't been mauled by the frontally labotomised brewery developers.
Good ales for the beer lovers amongst us!
Tucked down a little lane, is another of Warwickshires treasures.

The New Dungeon Ghyll Hotel, Langdale

Concur wholly with many of the above comments, and is rated as one of my top ten pubs (probably top 3 actually) The staff are fab as they do not suffer fools gladly!! The beer is stupendous, The ambience for people who like flagstone floors and wooden benches is unmatchable, but it gets very busy at high season. I likewise will visit this pub every time I go to the Lake District, in fact it is a major reason for me to travel the 180 miles!! HEAVEN

The Cape of Good Hope, Warwick

I have only been to this pub 3 times, but it has always had a mouthwatering selection of real ales. + likely to get something you haven't drunk before. Bit rough and ready, but friendly staff, and even saw the head chap from C..I..D.. out of the "Thin Blue Line" in there. Man of taste obviously!
Hard to find, like all the best treasures.. 10/10 for beer.
