The Kings Arms, Dorking

Really like this pub, always forms part of our weekly (mini) pub crawls through Dorking along with the Cricketers and the Star. Often has bands on which are always entertaining if a little variable in quality.

Good mix of clientele, yound and old and a nice atmosphere coupled with goodish beer and a suprising amount of seating make this a great place for a few drinks.
Staff can be a little slow sometimes (I just get the impression that they are not that experienced) but have always found them friendly.

The Star, Dorking

Fantastic pub, spent NYE there last week and had a great time.

Have not tried the ale on any of my visits so can't comment but the staff are really friendly and efficient which they often need to be as it can get very busy.

One of those places that is always making an effort to do something different with live music, events etc. and is all the better for it. Definitely worth a visit.

The Old House At Home, Dorking

Have drunk in this pub four or five times, always to watch the rugby as it seems to be the only place in Dorking that will reliably show it (can't watch at home due to a self imposed Murdoch boycott). Beer has been good on all occasions and staff have been really friendly and accommodating.
All my visits have been in the afternoon however as it does look a little bit "lively" when walking past in the evening.
Would recommend it for anyone wanting to watch sport in the Dorking area,.

The Royal Oak, Brockham

Visited this pub a couple of times in the summer so the date of this review is a bit misleading and the pub (and food) may have changed.
Pub has obviously undergone a makeover and looks nice if a little modern in places. Beer was fine and staff were pretty friendly.
Main gripe was the food which was not that great. When ordering the ploughmans was given the choice of cheese or ham when I had assumed that it would have both (was told that was not an option) and turned out to be some of those part baked rolls, a slab of prepacked cheddar and some iceberg. The rest of my party reported similarly disappointing results.
This is the sort of food that you would have got in a pub in the 70s / 80s and could do with a bit more effort for the prices charged.
Doesn't seem to dent the popularity of the place though as it is always busy, will be eating here in the next couple of weeks so will provide an update if it has improved.

The Arkle Manor, Betchworth

The first time we had a meal here it was ok although nothing particularly special, probably just below the level of an All Bar One.

The second time we vistited we had pizzas which were decidedly ropey e.g one had prawns which were covered in the cheese & sauce etc. which would have been fine if they didn't still have their shells on! The other pizza was soggy and have a really processed taste.

This may have just been an off day but it has put us off going back which is a shame as it looks great and if they raised their game we would be regular visitors.

Just for info purposes the best pizzas I have found in the area are Rialto's in Dorking and Strada in Reigate.

The Dolphin, Betchworth

Not sure why the poor ratings for this pub but then am only an occasional visitor (normally at the end of a walk over from Brockham) over the last six months. When I have been here have really enjoyed it, particularly the food.

Regarding the staff my main experience was when they went out of their way to fit us in for a last minute Sunday lunch a couple of months ago and have no complaints over the bar service which has always polite.

The locals all seemed pretty friendly and the charity quiz we attended was fantastic and only marred by our coming 6th which must have been due to erratic marking!

Anyway, in summary this is one of the nicest, most picturesque pubs I have been to in the area so if you have not visited I would definitley recommend giving it a go and making up your own mind.

Dukes Head, Brockham

This has become our local since moving into the area and can heartily recommend it (found it a bit friendlier than the other village pub). Does a good pint of London Pride and has suprisingly inventive & decent food for the area which is well worth trying .
Can be a bit quiet but staff are always friendly.
