Visited this pub a couple of times in the summer so the date of this review is a bit misleading and the pub (and food) may have changed.
Pub has obviously undergone a makeover and looks nice if a little modern in places. Beer was fine and staff were pretty friendly.
Main gripe was the food which was not that great. When ordering the ploughmans was given the choice of cheese or ham when I had assumed that it would have both (was told that was not an option) and turned out to be some of those part baked rolls, a slab of prepacked cheddar and some iceberg. The rest of my party reported similarly disappointing results.
This is the sort of food that you would have got in a pub in the 70s / 80s and could do with a bit more effort for the prices charged.
Doesn't seem to dent the popularity of the place though as it is always busy, will be eating here in the next couple of weeks so will provide an update if it has improved.

Very friendly and relaxed welcome (Sunday lunch). Nice to see a wooden floored seating area where our dogs were allowed to sit as we ate, alternatively there's the carpeted section at the back. Almost went outside as it was a warm day for early April to christen the new tables . Green King IPA went down very nicely. We thoroughly recommend, steak and Stilton pie and roast chicken. Our veggie enthused over the cheese broccoli bake complete with sliced potatoes in! Apple crumble, spotted dick and lemon drizzle cake all good. Looking forward to the next time.

Well, what a transformation! Darren & Suzanne moved took the helm at the Royal Oak in November, within three months it is back to being a truly great pub, fantastic atmosphere, and welcoming to not only the locals, but to the many visitors to our village.

Very nice pub in beautiful setting.Landlord seems a very nice chap and other regulars seem a friendly bunch.A strange thing does occur on a sunday evening, when a strange looking chap with loads of hair and a gold tooth holds political rants and tries to hug any young lady who will let him.Quite bizarre.
