The Badgers Watch, Peacehaven

Great restaurant - never had any complaints about the food, apart from the price and the wait here. Pleased to find Harvey's Best Bitter still on tap here also.

However, I wouldn't recommend sitting outside in the summer with the Portobello sewage treatment works next door (no, that's not just exposed seaweed at low tide you can smell).

The Saltdean Tavern, Saltdean

Nice clean carvery/pub with a pub quiz on a Monday night.

Disappointed not to find any hand pumps although the Greene King IPA and Tetley's (IIRC) on tap aren't too bad.

Tends to be a little dead most evenings.

The Swan Inn, Falmer

Great place to go for a quiet drink. Menu isn't really up to much if you want anything more than sandwiches. Very opinionated landlord, John - pick topics of conversation carefully! (Don't mention the Falmer Stadium!)

No Harvey's (landlord dispute with the brewery) but a very good regular selection of other beers.

Lectern, Brighton

Very much the typical student bar usually with the accompanying loud music. All the usual lagers but no real ale. Reasonably priced good quality typical student type food (e.g. burger & chips), although I do remember a member of the kitchen staff nipping to the costcutters next door to buy some tinned pineapple for my hawian burger one time!

Also worth mentioning (since it's not in the description above) that there's also a reasonable pool table (1)

The Bear Inn, Brighton

The atmosphere of this pub is as varying as the reviews already posted here. Very popular with students from the university (the extra walk from the pub closest to the Brighton Uni Moulsecoomb worth it!) and when busy you may well have to wait a while to be served. The selection of real ales served there varies from time to time, but you can usually count on a good pint of Harvey's best.

Having had an xmas meal with the university mountaineering club there, I can also vouch for top noch food!

Trevor Arms, Glynde

Great country pub with friendly bar staff; been going there for years for the folk music sessions (first Sunday afternoon of the Month and second Monday evening of the month). Always good food whenever I've eaten there and great Harvey's real ale on tap.

The Spanish Lady, Saltdean

Despite technically being my local, I don't intend to visit here, based on advice from friends: Two of my friends got barred from the place after a local poured their pint over one of them (over a minor misunderstanding IIRC).

If you do visit the place, don't upset the locals and from the above, don't expect too much sympathy from the bar staff.
