The Fleece, Chelmsford

I really like this pub.

It seems that its absorbed some of the atmosphere from the bay horse and subsequently caters to a more alternative crowd.

Local feeling about the pub which is tricky for the town centre - the beer garden's had some great work done to it, worth a check out.

Recently started getting some better ales and lagers in than before and the food isnt too bad for what it is.

Live music gives it a bit of an atmosphere and the guy that runs it is good at giving young bands a chance.

all in all, worth a visit.

Bar Kick, Shoreditch

Good football themed bar this, but is also non football fan friendly.

Theme is definitely latin american football, so expect lots of flags of cuba and brazil and sagres to be drunk all round.

No tap lager, but some good cocktails make up for it.

Food is mediterranean like chorizo and olives, there are a few table football tables knocking about which adds to the already vibrant atmosphere.

The downstairs is often reserved for a private party, but its quite a nice place to hang out if its open.

i've been in here for football sessions with the lads, and its also quite a good place to take a girl for an informal drink too.

Town Crier, South Woodham Ferrers

this is my hometown local,

warm beer, cold food is its motto and it's fairly accurate.

Having said that, its a good place to have a sunday afternoon pint watching the football, and as long as you dont mess about its no trouble either.

If you're out with mates and you fancy some lagers, this is the place for you, if you're looking for a gastropub or you're knocking on a bit, try the whalebone down the other end of town.

The Black Lion, Plaistow

This is a top east end pub,

moved to plaistow about a year ago, and this is a real diamond in the rough.

Friendly community pub with a relaxing atmosphere on non match days, but a place where the less loutish West Ham lads come after the game on match days.

Main bar area is normally busy and shows horse racing and football (3D), with a nice quiet bar round the back if you fancy a bit of private chat.

Friendly bar staff and even though i hear the beer garden has been reduced, its still perfectly ample for a lazy summer afternoon.

Food is pretty good, but is bizarrely only served on weekdays.

Used to be an old coach house so has that authentic pub feel about it, its also steeped in history as this used to be the late Bobby Moore's boozer in days gone by.

Fantastic pub this and its made my stay in Plaistow that much easier. Give it a visit if you're in the area.

The Black Lion, Bayswater

Nipped in here the other day after an afternoon in Hyde Park,

Was met by a very rude and surly barman, 4 a pint and 8 a chip sandwich.

How ridiculous.

Pubs alright, perfectly sittable, but the lager was poor and the food was way too pricey. Bar man really set a bad atmosphere for me.
