| After some years away from Chelmsford,I visited the Fleece recently and has now been renamed The Golden Fleece,As it was when I used to visit it back in he early 90s,it was then my most favourite pub in Chelmsford with a very friendly Atmosphere, for a time it had been simply called "the Fleece"but it's name has recently reverted back to it's full title. Today the Golden Fleece has live bands 3 days a week, starting as early as 2pm in the afternoon-when I visited it was on a Tuesday,so no live bands for that day, they open for Breakfast every morning from 9am. Another thing I noted that there was a disabled customer in a Wheelchair visiting when I was there and the Staff brought his Drinks to his table for him, this indeed goes a long way with me-superb helpful friendly staff !. pabanks49 - 28 Jul 2011 11:53 |

| I went in this pub yesterday after an interview at the local uni. I have to say, AWESOME. I had Sole Goujans and fries, the goujans were out of this world, and the chips well, the best chips I have ever had in my life. The bar, couldn't have been more helpful, they were great; so I'd like to offer the staff of this pub a great big thank you. As Arnie Schwarznegger would say "I'LL BE BACK", lol. | I really like this pub. It seems that its absorbed some of the atmosphere from the bay horse and subsequently caters to a more alternative crowd. Local feeling about the pub which is tricky for the town centre - the beer garden's had some great work done to it, worth a check out. Recently started getting some better ales and lagers in than before and the food isnt too bad for what it is. Live music gives it a bit of an atmosphere and the guy that runs it is good at giving young bands a chance. all in all, worth a visit. knowsgoodpubs - 14 May 2010 16:01 |
| Polypinmath It was a shame you didnt come in during cask ale week as you would have seen the effort made, we had 7 different ales on during the week and offered Camra members a 25% discount throughout the week. Im always open to comments about what ales people would like to be stocked. Yes we do have a deal with Brentwood Brewing as we aim to support our local Brewers, we do rotate thier range weekly and will stock 3 ales during peak periods. Whilst it would always be nice to have 3 on at all times, im sure you would agree its better to do 2 well than 3 badly. Its a shame you wont be back but im sure with all the great ale houses in Chelmsford (and we are truly blessed with these!!) im sure you wont go short of a pint or 7!
