The Nightingale, Hitchin

A great locals type pub, with a big TV, darts, and pool. There is usually 4 real ales on including strong ones (Wychwood Hobgoblin, Nethergates Old Bob), and on Wednesday night they were all great.

The Nags Head, Wellpond Green

This pub has just been re-opened by new owners, and the refurb looks great. The beer is excellent. The menu looks fantastic, and if it tastes as good as when they were at The Three Tuns at Great Hormead, then this is the place to be.

The Maidens Head, Whitwell

For a Macs house, this is a great pub with great beer.

George & Dragon, Watton at Stone

A very nice pub - even has a petanque pitch in the garden. Unfortunately, the good quality beer is on the expensive side.

Cock, Baldock

A Greene King pub, with a good selection of quality beer, including a mild, and guests.

Coopers Arms, Hitchin

For a McMullens pub this is a good one. The beer is usually in good condition. Only problem is the "Guest" beer is quite often an unbadged McMullens seasonal, rather than a true guest.

The Three Tuns, Great Hormead

This was a great pub for food, but it is just changing hands, so check it out first.

The Strathmore Arms, St Pauls Walden

Has microbrewery real ales from all over the country. And has cider and perry in the summer. Runs several Beer Festivals through the year. Great pub.

The Red Lion, Preston

Fantastic village pub, owned by the community. Usually has about 6 real ales and a cider or two, all in great nick. Never eaten there, but I've heard its very good.
