| Had a lovely shep pie in here last week and a couple of pints of Goats Milk which was perfect even though I was the first in on the day. Lovely village full of the rich, asked a guy if there were any small house in Preston , he said "oh no" Funny Iwent to the Preston the city a couple of weeks ago , the contrast is amazing , wealth and poverty . The garden here is excellent too,and if you like a good ale not to far to the excellent Strathmore Arms which has a differerent sort of charm. Henners - 21 Mar 2011 20:38 |
| The Red Lion is a pub owned by the villageers of Preston in Hertfordshire and the landlord is the manager. The relativley new manager came from The Windmill at Charlton nr Hitchin. Our party of 5 had a very enjoyable Sunday roast (4 had long horn beef and I had a chicken and leek pie). The menu was all home cooked and everyone thought the meal at approx £8.95 for the main course was excellent value. The beef was cooked well and very tender and the veg selection was good. One or two said the meal could have been hotter but it was not cold. The pub was quite busy so this may have added to this. Puddings were also home made and the apple and pear crumble at £3.95 was particularly good. Would Recommend. plumley - 15 Dec 2010 15:13 |
| What a delightful pub, with a great beer garden. As a stranger you do get the 'up and down look' from the locals as you walk in, but that's understandable as they own it. There's a lovely buzz about the place and is obviously dearly loved by the customers. It has superb ales and the whole place has a vibe that harks back to when the local pub was the cornerstone of the community. We've had lunch twice there now and both times we were really, really chuffed with what we ordered. Everything is home cooked using local ingredients grown on the pub's own allotments. Top notch! | This is a lovely traditional English country pub in a small village and is especially nice in the summer as it has a very nice garden at the back. The food is quite nice and the Guiness is usually pretty good. Sometimes has a few hooray Henry type twits at the bar making boorish comments but genrsally a pretty good place for a drink or pub meal. zoomy - 7 Oct 2009 16:54 |
