Ye Olde One Bull, Bury St Edmunds

The decor, furnishings and pictures look like a job lot from a Next interiors closing down sale! Not at all as I remember it from a few years back.
The staff were friendly and efficient. They had Adnams bitter and Woodforde Wherry which was Ok, if a little cold for my taste. The food had plenty of flavour, portion size was good and was well presented.

The Mulberry Tree, Ipswich

Sorry to read the of the possible demise of this pub. I make regular use of it as it is convenient for a drink before and after shows at the Regent. I have always found service friendly and efficient, last Sunday was no exception. They had Tribute on and it was very good indeed.

The Ivy House, Stradbroke

I have enjoyed several visits here and last Saturday lunchtime was no exception. The Woodforde Wherry and the Piddle in the Wind were in top condition as was my mates Adnams. The food was superb and Egil and Sue make you feel so welcome. They really try so hard having introduced afternoon teas at weekends they now also offer breakfasts too! Well worth the journey.

The Station Hotel, Ipswich

I stopped in for a pint of Spitfire while waiting for delayed train last Thursday. Less than half dozen customers in. Spitfire OK as was my mates Adnams. Whilst the guy behind the bar staff was friendly enough two of the drinkers gave us the look of "what the **** are you doing in here?" We enjoyed our beer and avoided futher eye contact till our train came in. Doubt we will call in again.

The Brewers Arms, Rattlesden

I have been back several times since my earlier comment but thought I would post an update after the really cracking Irish night last Thursday. It was a full house and the atmosphere was great. I departed from my usual pints of Old Trip and the Guiness went down very well. After a really good three course meal we were entertained by an acoustic dou (father and son) "The Harvs". They played a really impressive set and I am not surprised that they are regulars at the Norwich beer festival. Well done Geoff and Nina - when's the next one?

The Eels Foot Inn, Eastbridge

This is a great place to head for on foot from Dunwich or Sizewell. Aim to arrive no later than 12:30 for lunch and on a sunny day you should get a table inside as the outside ones will be taken. Get there earlier if its raining! Hot food is cooked to order so expect up to a 45 min wait but it is worth it. Very busy day last time we went but staff coping well. Only glitch was when they were a little reluctant to take our orders for puds at twenty past two despite sign saying last food orders two thirty. Adnams up to usual standard.

The Red Rose, Lindsey

Visited on Saturday for the first time in years. Enjoyed some well kept Adnams bitter and an excellent three course meal. Decor and furniture is nice and sympathetic to the building. The staff who all seem young (maybe its my age) are very friendly and helpful. Only very minor point is our waitress didn't seem to know much about some of the dishes when asked but all in all we were impressed and have already aranged to go again.

The Crown Inn, Pulham Market

Have been back for evening meals and not been diappointed I agree with comment from Dianeb so cannot understand those expressed by Peggotty. I cook myself and what I have had here was certainly not microwaved. It would be a shame if Peggotty is a "local" and if other locals also decide to shun this pub. It is so nice to find something close to the A140 other than the grossly overrated and ovepriced Ram at Tivetshall.

The Kings Arms, Ludham

Visited for a meal in the evening last Saturday and the food was good, portions generous and service reasonably efficient. The beer (I tried Adnams and London Pride) was served with a large creamy head and tasted nothing like either. Obviously aimed at the hordes of tourists (and why shouldn't they?) they do what they do well. For me I think I will stick to the Dog next time.

The Dog Inn, Ludham

We have visited this pub previously and have always found the beer well kept. Went in for a lunchtime drink with friends last Saturday for the first time since the change of ownership. The beer is still good (Winters bitter I tried) but the place is now clean, bright and the staff very friendly. If the food tastes as good as it looks and smells it should do well.

The White Hart, Winchcombe

The food here in both the bar and the dining room is exceptional. Good quality ingredients locally sourced and well presented. The bare area is good and the staff attentive and friendly. The beer (Jouster and Archers) were both excellent. The concept of tasting wine before a meal then paying only 5.00 corkage to drink it is a good one in these days of high mark ups.

The Duck On The Pond, South Newington

I agree with I_ate_all_the_pies, nice clean pub in a pleasant location. The pond is safely fenced off with nice seating outside. The Hooky was good and the Chicken wrap with chips and nice salad was just over 6. Staff friendly too, can only speak as you find!

The Crown Inn, Pulham Market

Visited early on a Saturday lunchtime and the welcome was warm and friendly. The beer was Adnams and Elgoods Cambridge Bitter from tapped barrels. Both tasted excellent. The choice of food (from a blackboard) was good. When served it was well presented and the taste certainly lived up to the appearance. By the end of lunch it was fairly busy. Looking forward to trying a Saturday night soon.

The Old Cannon Brewery, Bury St Edmunds

Although Adnams and other worthy bitters are often here as a guest beers you must try the pubs own brews. I've had the Gunners daughter several times! The food is good but it is also an excellent place for a pre (and post) dinner drink when dining at the superb Chalice just across the road. As an added bonus the waitress in the Chalice will fetch your favourite tipple from here in two pint jugs!

The Bell Inn, Walberswick

The beer is always good, Adnams well kept. The food on offer is excellent and the portions can be immense! The young waiting staff in the busy summer weekend lunchtimes are very efficient.

The Royal William, Stowmarket

Redecorated in pale shades since the smoking ban, miss the old red ceiling!
Had Deuchars IPA and Greene King IPA on when I called in for a pre curry pint or two. Friendly staff and regulars.

The Brewers Arms, Rattlesden

Great to see Nina and Geoff back at the helm. Well kept beer and excellent food in a lovely atmosphere. Worth the trip out on a cold winters night!
