The Brewery Tap, Sudbury

Lived upto all expectations. Tried Mole Trap & Silver Adder from the extensive Mauldon's range available - both excellent.
Also Cain's Dragon Heart & Milestone's Sherwood Stag.
The Pork Pies looked excellent & it was a joy to be able to play Bar Billiards again ( Yes I know I dont get out much !).
Can't wait to make a return visit

The Rosebud, Brightlingsea

Recently visited twice in last 3 weeks, both were excellent - for different reasons.
Ate there with my wife. Food was lovely, Seafood Tower to start followed by Salmon & Hunter's Chicken as main's. Faultless. No room for a sweet.
Excellent ale - Harviestoun 'Bitter & Twisted' & Wolf 'Wolf in Sheep's Clothing'

The recent Bank Holiday mini beer festival is an initiative which should be applauded & supported. Had 8 well kept ales, all in fine fettle; Thornbridge 'Wild Swan', Thwaites ' Nutty Black', Elgoods ' Cambridge', Wadworth ' Henry's IPA, Wibblers ' Apprentice', Harviestoun ' Game Burd' & Nethergate's 'Essex Border' & 'Old Growler'. Look forward to the next one !

Cherry Tree Inn, Woodbridge

This ale drinker thought he'd died and gone to heaven !

A 'mini beer festival' greets those who choose to visit ; a truely exceptional range of ales that you cannot do justice to - unless you stay all day !

I managed the Earl Soham 'Gannet Mild', Nethergate IPA & Adnams 'Old Ale' and still regretted not having time for some others!

An open fire& busy, friendly atmosphere just added to the experience.
Highly recommended - as you would have expected !

The Kings Head, Woodbridge

An Adnams pub with a full range of Adnams beers - except Old Ale ?

Busy for Saturday afternoon, with a good atmosphere.
Lovely old building, wooden beams & open fire and an extensive menu for those wishing to eat.
You people in Woodbridge are truely spoilt !!

The Angel, Woodbridge

A great pub to be in on a cold, dank winters afternoon.
The furnace of an open fire could have warmed peoples hands down by the river !

The traditional, wooden beamed bar had a homely atmosphere with candles adding to the effect. Although really quiet - we only witnessed 3 other customers - the locals are making a mistake by giving this place a miss.
The mulled wine and mince pies were a nice surprise - which 2 of our party swiftly took advantage of !

A good solid range of ales with Wherry & Adnams Bitter along with a guest ale from Shenstones = 3 Spires, which was really satisfying.

Sekforde Tap, Woodbridge

For those who like a traditional pub & pub atmosphere - in my humble opinion - this is not for you. I felt it had a modern, wine bar cum tapas bar feel to it ; a bit confused if you like.
Which I found a tad dispointing 'cos the range of ales was excellent.

Both the Wickwar 'Bankers Draft' & T.Taylor Dark Mild were lovely.

I'd definately recommend it for the range of ales

Ye Old Bell & Steelyard, Woodbridge

A bit on the quiet side for a Saturday afternoon, as the cats & dogs ( which were lovely - well the dogs were !) out numbered the punters !

A great open fire to warm your soul - or more especially the bum of the resident pub dog, who's sense of feeling in this area must have long deserted him ! The only downside was the smoke blowing down the flue into the bar, giving it & everyone present, the smell of a steam engine ( for those who may remember them !)

Was not disapointed to have chosen to eat here, however, as the food was truely superb and good value for money - hats off to the chef.
Our group had the Cod, Scampi & Goulash & the pub animals hoping for any scraps were sorely disapointed.

The range of ales was good, but not paticularly exciting ; The Hook Norton 'Old Hooky' was excellent. The St.Edmunds was not.
Also available was GK IPA & Old Speckled Hen, which we didn't sample as we has more pubs to visit ....................

The Old Mariner, Woodbridge

A wonderful, unpretentious, old fashioned pub. At mid-day it was nicely busy with a great atmosphere created by the drinkers alone -thankfully with no machines or music.
Lots of interesting woodbridge memorabilia and artefacts; If would have been nice has the open fire been lit, but that is only a small point.

The range of ale was excellent with Wherry, Spitfire, Adnams Bitter, London Pride & Youngs Bitter all available to spoil the drinker rotten.

I will definately be making a return visit.

The Famous Railway Tavern Brewing Co, Brightlingsea

Good to see the place busy on a Friday night.
Log fire burning and great beers :- the wonderfully fruity Crouch Vale Best, the dark and delicious Bladderwrack Stout and truly amazing Oak Nouveau, from The Mighty Oak Brewery.
Three really well kept and served real ales in a uniquely atmospheric pub, full of local characters. You'd be mad not to experience it - and no i'm NOT the landlord !! 10/10

Manningtree Station Buffet, Lawford

Excellent beer on offer with Ridleys Witchfinder Porter being the pick of the best from GK IPA & Speckled Hen.
The range of food looked superb & with such long opening hours, who could complain !?!
A great place to sample a couple of beers before embarking on a serious crawl. It's not quite a pub - if you know what I mean.

The Royal William, Stowmarket

Very friendly staff, in a great pub.
A first time visitor, during a lengthy 'crawl', happily surprised to find this busy on a late Saturday afternoon.
Could have easily kept on Palmers Copper Ale for the rest of the evening, having already sampled their GK IPA & Wherry elsewhere in the town.
Will definately be returning !

The Pickerel Inn, Stowmarket

Pub number '6' during a Stowmarket crawl, so memory getting a bit hazy by this time !
An excellent pub - with excellent beer - Woodford's Wherry & Adnams Bitter.
Good 'pubby' atmosphere, although quiet for a Saturday afternoon, but we weren't complaining.
Would certainly visit again.

The Rosebud, Brightlingsea

Have paid more visits since the pub was taken over by the current owners.

Always found the beers in good shape, especially Woodford's Wherry & Well's Waggledance.

The Famous Railway Tavern Brewing Co, Brightlingsea

The Famous Railway Tavern was the 'Holy Grail' when I was a young lad living in Colchester, with Crab & Winkle the ultimate beer.
Now I live in Brightlingsea it's my 'local' - a dream come true!

An excellent traditional public house - just as it should be. No piped music ; no machines - just great Ale & a good chat with whoever's in there.

Long may it continue to serve the more discerning beer drinkers of the community.
