The Dolphin, Betchworth

So shall I randolf7. Most of my comments now go to the Youngs site, where they are not posted and ignored. Only positive posts are welcome; the thoughts of us non-swearing regulars are not relevant.

The Bulls Head, Reigate

Good High Street location with well kept beer and lager. Food is good value and ample - and staff and customers are friendly.

Went on to Youngs' own site and clicked on the Dolphin. Not a negative view or comment to be seen - everything in/about the pub is 'fantastic'. It would seem that criticism is unwelcome and ignored; do they even live in the real world?

The Market Hotel, Reigate

Yep - on the market, but NO interest. Good location and potential, but needs major refurbishment as well as new staff and management - Ben and his mates deserve to be unemployed, for sheer laziness and incompetence. Lowest BITE rating in East Surrey. Congratulations!

I share the last poster's hopes.

Management standards (as well as food and drink ones) will have to improve and the front bar idiots moved on.

Otherwise, the improvements will be a waste. Opening again - Monday, 13th December.

Closed for refurbishment.

Potatoes invites us to "enjoy the company"

Is this guy for real? Only a bloke from the nearby Home for the Bewildered could do that.....

I'd rather let Michael (Collins!), the Irish guy, drive me home to Dorking ! ! !

The Market Hotel, Reigate

Vile place...staff all had personality bypasses. Hygiene and beer are awful. Health and Safety need to come in....we (Reigatians) don't - any more. Worst rated 'pub' in the borough - and that's saying something!

The Royal Oak, Rusper

Offensve, no. Humour, none. Childish, probably. Syntax/spelling, not bad - for a child...

The Seven Stars, Bristol

Great - the boring Irish guy, aem, rarely comes in now!

Grey haired Michael is the chap (c67): old silver car too; most days in here, a sad bloke, with a Ladbroke problem - and others!

MS goes to the Scarlet also...........

The Black Horse, Reigate

Good pub and food - and on the A25. However, the nearby Skimmington Castle (mentioned in previous posts, and in a fine rural location) is back at its best - and probably just pips the BH for overall quality. Book at both!

The Seven Stars, Bristol

Was in for the Festival, a couple of times - and sampled a few new ales. Didn't see the beatles, Father Jack or Mr Gervais (!).

Good quality beer, reflecting the effort put in. Not perfect (but where is?) but currently deserves 7/10.

It will remain on our list of Bristol's best.

The Kings Arms, Saffron Walden

Of the six comments in the last two years, one was positive. This pub is very midiocre at best; beer quality and hygiene standards are low - just like those of the management. Many better venues nearby.

The Bulls Head, Reigate

This is a small pleasant pub which seems to be frequented by chaps who run their 'businesses' from it; they run in and out on their mobile phones and often have laptops taking up valuable counter space. Otherwise, the beer, service and hospitality is good - although some of the regulars (hiya Steve & Stuart) have had highly sucessful personality bypasses.

The Dolphin, Betchworth

Because of its location beside the Mole river in historic Betchworth - and also its comfortable olde world interior - this pub will always be busy, particularly in the summer. Young's know this and seem content to let the place look after itself, more or less.

This is sad as standards have dropped alarmingly - in terms of beer and food quality; this has been alluded to by many previous posters. Low calibre management has long been in situ - and then there are the regulars! These are not from Betchworth; but their behaviour and foulmouthed repartee has made the place 'out of bounds' for us golfers and locals. A grave pity.

The Market Hotel, Reigate

Coming from Gatwick, we stopped at the Market - it stood out and looked well in the centre of Reigate. What a mistake?!

A bored unshaven barman served us flat beer which tasted awful. This chap seemed more interested in sharing his life views with the local foulmouthed chaps at the end of the bar.

Food was advertised - but the the reaction to our query was so lukewarm that we thought the food might be as well; there was nobody eating. Toilets were dreadful.

On our return home, we read about the pub on BITE - and can confirm that recent posts have been generous! The worst we've seen? Probably.

Steve

1. there is no need to quote what other posters have said about other pubs; its on the BITE system

2. why BLOCK 'in no uncertain terms....' we all know this.

3. 'appraoches ourselves with any gripe' neptune tried to do just this - but the person was on the fruit machine! (and you find this HARD to take in!! - what planet are you on m8?)

4. first negative post in two years? watch this space....there will be more.
