The Beaconsfield, Harringay

Not really worth commenting on. Badly run pub. I really think that regulars should be told off for staring at or throwing looks at strangers as they walk through the door ( its very off putting) I won't go back unless it changes.

The Salisbury, Harringay

I dont go in here very often because of two things 1). I don't like the Czech lager. 2) I don't like service. I realise the landlord is governed on the choice of lager but he is not governed by HIS choice of bar staff. Almost all of them have no customer skills what so ever and should all be sent on training courses. They are all dismissive and generally rude. And as for them serving right up to 2am at weekends and then taking your drink away at 2:01 am is outrageous and always causes arguments..otherwise it's ok.

The Old Ale Emporium, Harringay

It's a footie boozer. What else can I say. it does what it says on the tin. It's not particularly friendly to strangers and they always seem to copy the ales that The Garden Ladder stock. When I was last in the landlord was playing very loud heavy metal and a few customers (including me),left and went to a more sedate bar.

Catch 22, Turnpike Lane

This place has turned into one of the most threatening bars in the area. They should take the rainbow flag down and stop trying to attract decent gay people to this appalling excuse for a supposedly 'gay bar'. The windows are broken on a regular basis (and I mean weekly) and the current customers are young urban hooded menaces. The place is filthy and the lagers often taste foul. If you are Gay stay well clear if you are decent and straight stay well clear too.

I thought i'd leave it a while before I commented on pubs and bars again. Glad to see this bar survive. I drink in here often and am always amazed how friendly the staff are. The atmosphere is so welcoming and customer focused. The customer mix is really diverse and I have never seen any trouble. Because of this It must be one of the most female & Gay friendly bars in the area. The amount of effort I have seen them put into special nights is worthy of comment. Everything from St Patricks Day to Gay Pride. My girlfriend loves the place. Well done guys keep it up.

The Railway Tavern, Crouch End

Could easily become a favourite with me (it's so hard to find a local where you are treated like a regular customer and not a stranger - and i drink a lot in crouch end) well done

Monkey Nuts, Crouch End

The only two accusations of 'food poisoning'come from people who have not reviewed any other bar (I find that extremely odd, dont you?) Monkey Nuts is a well run, clean and fun place to go. The staff are professional and friendly. It may be a bit on the expensive side - but hey it's Crouch End. (The only place where inhabitants can afford 4X4 climate controlled buggies - so what the hell charge them for their burger - And no I am not attached to Monkey Nuts just a satisfied customer.

The Garden Ladder, Harringay

This bar is my local and have been visiting since they opened. It is still the best bar in the area - bar none - friendly, clean and fun. The ale is well kept and the food tasty. what more do you want from a bar.

Three Compasses, Hornsey

I have not been here for a while and this time was no better they still employ the rudest bar man and bar maid that i have ever met (and believe me i have met a few) football has taken over and the food is bland

Jolly Butchers, Stoke Newington

Good for a late drink. Doorstaff are useless. Bar staff friendly. Customers a bit on the rough side

The Garden Ladder, Harringay

I've just found this fabulous bar/pub serves brilliant food at a reasonable price. Nice mix of people gay/straight/black/white/old/young & female friendly (which is hard to find in any other local pub). The ales are good. Shame about open decks night I thought it was a very good idea but they seem to have stopped it. I agree with lizzr the manager a staff are really friendly and talkative. Keep it up.

The Hornsey Tavern, Hornsey

I don't drink here much but when I do it's always been friendly (a bit rough round the edges mind - but most genuine community pubs are)the owners are doing a good job and keep the riff raff to a minimum - it was much worse a few years ago and after all it's not all bar one - good on yer a proper local

The Sebright Arms, Bethnal Green

Visited the Sebright a few months ago my how things change. I used to work there for a delightful couple Jack and John affectionately know by all the locals that lived next door to the Krays as Jack & Jill. Friedly pub good cabaret, Dockyard Doris (rip) Tommy Osbourne and a grand old music hall night on thursday. Now replaced by a pub full of plastic gangsters who also all lived next door to the Krays (How long was Valance Road any way)

The Kings Head and Dive Bar, Chinatown

I went past the former Kings Head, Dive Bar two weeks ago I had heard it had shut but to see it closed was so sad.....the times we all had with Terry (bless him) and the rest of the staff they were all friends. A large group of us west end boys (and girls) mostly gay first went there in the late 80's when we got barred a pub in St Martins Lane for calling a clone barmen 'Magnum' we said if you don't want our money we'll spend it else where - and we did, for years and years in the Dive Bar what fun, outrageous evenings, camp parties fondly remembered sadly missed

Monkey Nuts, Crouch End

Friendly, professional staff and management. Considering the type of customer they have to deal with. (Namely The Crouch End Organic Breast Feeding Mothers Society and there partners whether male or female)It is not a pub but a bar so any crits should be based on this fact. The food is more than adequate, after all...it is a burger bar....doh. They may add on service but it is OPTIONAL and if you don't have the guts to refuse it's your fault not theirs. I have recommended this venue to many people for informal dining with or without children and not one has diliked it.
