The Old Rep, Ipswich

Been here twice. First visit was a great one. The staff are excellent, attentive & polite. The food was good, large portions and the price is just right. The second visit we went for an indian sampler platter, which has massive appeal. Unfortunately the onion bhajis were still frozen in the middle. I will try this place again, but only when I have tried other places first.

Mannings, Ipswich

Went to Mannings today. Ordered two pints of fosters for 6.30 which were fine, but the barmaid had to be retrieved from the garden as she was smoking, no sign of hands washed which isn't particularly nice, and when I asked for two pints, she replied "is that it?" as if I should have been ordering more than two drinks for two people. So customer service was below average. Tables were sticky and the place looked as though it just needed a good clean. Ordered the steak pie and my partner had the bacon cheese burger. The food arrived in a timely fashion, and I was bit disappointed to see that there was no gravy with my pie, chips & peas. The peas.... Ah slightly on the brown shade of the green spectrum, which given that birds eye do excellent frozen peas is no excuse for using 'cheap' peas. Imagine my horror when I open the "steak" pie to find some over cooked dried out stewing steak from a can. The chips were decent, the burger slightly too much cheese, but otherwise ok. For a prominent location I can't help but think the management are missing a trick here. A decent steak pie should be the backbone of decent real pub. I feel cheated out of the best part of 20 and will not be going back.

The Royal Sovereign, Brighton

I stand by my review of this pub, so there were three negative posts in a short space of time? not my fault, its a well known fact that customers complain more than they compliment. The bad experience lead me to leave my views, maybe the pub in question had a bad weekend? All I know is I wont be going back. So many pubs to choose from in Brighton, and I don't ever have to visit this one again, and I will make sure other people know its not a good place, it's my opinion, and I'm entitled to it.

top notch pub. good beer, great food. I have almost had one of every elly burger they do, not to sure about the anti-social elly (garlic based), but it has to be done.

The Volunteer, Lewes

Very nice pub, been in 4 or 5 times now. Beer is good, barmaid is a great laugh, but takes no sh*t. food is good, although my pizza could done with being sliced up before serving. Some more events would be nice, pub quiz or something?

The Royal Sovereign, Brighton

I felt the place needed a good clean, sticky tables, dirty windows. Expensive drinks, average tasting beer, below average food. Staff I thought were lifeless, the man I can only assume was the boss was unfriendly and seemed far to busy texting on his phone. Far better places to go.
