Sinnott's, Dublin

Have enjoyed several long sessions in this fine ale house.
Splendid Guinness and a circular bar - so one can drink at it from all sides!

O'Donoghues, Dublin

Expensive but good pub with goiod Guinness of course.
Particularly lively on an International Rugby Saturday!

Hairy Lemon, Dublin

Good music. Decent Guinness.

Speights Ale House, Queenstown

One of the most popular bars in town.
Serves the whole Speights range. The 'Porter' is particularly good.
Big screens for sport (chiefly Rugby of course). Good food and friendly staff.

The Crispin, Wokingham

Good real ales. Friendly also.
Conveniently next to Curry take away and a restaurant.
Worth a visit.
Nice pub in a sad town.

The Sligachan Hotel, Sligachan

Good selection of beers (hand pulled of course!). Brewed in the Isle of Skye. Red Cuillin ale worth trying.
Top range of whiskies all on optics (50+) around the top of the bar. Not cheap, but a long way from any civilisation.
Camp site next door. They also rent out cottages and have a bunkhouse. Spectacular views. Its the starting place for some magnificent walks into the Cuillin. There can be few better situated pubs in the world! Id avoid visiting in the summer school holidays though when prices are high and the place is packed.

The Old Inn, Carbost

Its changed a fair bit since the last time I was there (2 years). Theres a bunkhouse next door and a few other new buildings.
This pub is still however in a magnificent setting. Views of the sea loch and views of the spectacular Cuillin hills also.
Beers are good - mainly because of the Guinness which is well kept. The atmosphere is also top.
A real strength is that it is opposite the Talisker Distillery! So take a visit there also.
Food is good as well.

The Captain Cook, Staithes

Old-fashioned 'proper' type of pub.
Good real ales with regular guests.
Does some accommodation which is very basic!!
Strength is the beer and a great atmosphere.
I recently led a group who biked from this pub right on the East Coast (beautiful sea views and wonderful village- birthplace of Captain Cook of course) to our local, The Taps in Lytham on the West coast (Lancashire). We passed lots of great real ale pubs and they are suggested as a fairly lengthly 'crawl'!

The Phoenix Inn / Morgans Bar, Inverness

Good beers. Well-maintained. Sport on TV.
Circular bar!! Very rare I think.
Great atmosphere.

The Agricultural, Penrith

Best pub in Penrith. Good Jennings beers plus one guest as well. Does good food, and has separate restaurant area. Beer is kept to an excellent standard though. Convenient for train station.

Crown, Birkenhead

Good pub. Beers very acceptable.

The Taps, Lytham St Annes

I too have been luck enough to be there with free beer on.
The atmosphere is appealling (no music or alcopops, and lager pumps well-hidden). Particularly on a quiet Monday night in winter when I find it very difficult to leave.
Standard and range of beers is exceptional.
The pub also involves itself in plenty of community type events. Highlights are the Chairty 30 mile bike ride the first Sunday in July. The all-conquering cricket team, for which I have been fortunate enough to guest. (Along I may tell you with a New Zealand test cricketer last year!).
If youve not been there - it should be a must!!
