Large Marstons pub next to Penrith station serving food and having rooms available. The ale range was all from the Marstons stable - Jennings Bitter, Cumberland Ale & Sneck Lifter plus Ringwood Best & Old Thumber. Service was quick and friendly and the Sneck Lifter was in reasonable condition. The interior is comfortable and there are high ceilings. Sky TV News was showing on the TV. Being a little busier than the nearby Gloucester Arms, this was a slightly better choice. blue_scrumpy - 20 Jan 2012 22:27
Marvellous name. Not the greatest looking pub from the outside but well worth a visit. 4 real ales on tap : 3 Jennings and Mansfield Bitter. Tried the Jennings Bitter and it was fine. I've eaten here before and the food was really good. Handy for the train station. ulverstoned - 25 Mar 2011 19:54
Very impressed. Found this pub driving into Penrith to break up our journey home. Nice pint of Jennings Bitter and the food was of a good standard. Very friendly pub in comfortable atmosphere. Will visit again when next in the area. anybody - 6 Feb 2011 10:32
Top pub, top beer. The Sneck Lifter was spot on. sootythebeerbear - 20 Sep 2010 10:57
| Great pub, just across the road from the station and a short walk from the town centre. We found it while staying at the Travelodge just up the road when en route to Scotland last December and spent a very pleasant evening there. Just been back to the "Aggie" for a family reunion at lunchtime - 5 adults and 2 teenagers. Beer was in tip-top condition - a good range of Jennings' ales plus a guest beer. The food is excellent and good value for money (enormous portions). Both the bar and restaurant areas are comfortable and welcoming - real fires in winter too. Smashing pub.
