The Queens Head, Chesham

Consistently a good place to visit. Well mannered and knowledgeable staff. Offered taster glass of the ales on offer. Good ale selection and whisky menu. London Pride was spot on for temperature. Never appear hassled when busy. A credit to the team. Always clean and welcoming. Food is mainly Thai, from the next door restaurant (good, but nothing special for any Thai lovers)

return visit.... still a good as the previous report. Full of local people enjoying good beer and food. The landlords actually speak to people and remember names, which is excellent these days. Ask for the tree chocolate dessert if your dare. Good whisky menu as well as ales.

The new owners have stamped their personality on the place big time. It is very popular for meals and Sunday lunches. It has real pub atmosphere, where everyone is welcome including kids, dogs, etc.
We had the Sunday lunch (which should be booked) and the place was packed. Nearly did not get in.

The Firecrest, Aylesbury

Visited 3 Sept 2010.. Bar was busy and good selection of well kept beers. However bar staff only served those who pushed into the top bar, regardless of those waiting elsewhere. Staff enthusiastic, friendly and busy. Food standards have really declined in both standard and portion size recently. Rump steak was dry and undersized, with 3 small onion rings, half a tomato and a dollop of peas + chips. Kingclip fish was small and badly presented and Special Burger was not impressive in any way. Food profit margin must be excellent at these prices, but at the cost of losing customers, who will move on as there are plenty of better value alternatives locally.

The Boot and Slipper, Amersham

This pub started out extremely well...but has been a victim of it initial success. However it has slipped and it is still slipping. The drinks have become extortionate in price and the quality of the food has dropped. You could actually see people counting their change in disbelief, as the drink prices registered. It will be another pub that slowly dies until someone notices that you cannot simply get fewer people to pay more to stay the same profit level. A big pity, as it started so well.

Black Horse Inn, Chesham Vale

we went to try somewhere different for a change.. should not have bothered. Prices are very high for the standard , quite a few other people just drank up and left while we were there. We found them in another pub in Chesham 20 mins later when left also.
Sad , as this is a nice setting.

Kids! Kids! Not a nice place to be, unless you are very young and have little taste bud experience. To be avoided as there is plenty of choice very close by. Music is so loud you have to go outside talk to each other.

Wow! What a gem... Thai food in the bar or restaurant upstairs.. Basket of crackers & chilli dip fors 2... good food and range of drinks. Excellent service by staff who are sometimes under a lot of pressure due to the place being packed out. Neat outside heating & eating area in the back. Worth making the effort

The Misty Moon, Chesham

Gone down a bit since being sold by weatherspooons.. not the same attention to detail. Still good service , but little or no investment in the fabric of the place....Good customers ambience and range of drink. Food has risen in price but not in the quality.

The White Lion, St Leonards

Consistently good food and service..Been 4 times at various times of day & week, all good. Although a distance for us it has now become our local and worth the effort.. Its a happy pub for people who like good beer & food without the gimmicks & music. Although new to the area we were welcomed immediately with no reservations. Cracking barman when he's happy!!
