The Hobgoblin, Staines

Okay so we didn't win it, but the Hob is still the best pub in Staines.

The Hobgoblin, Staines

Beer and ladies are priorities 2 and 3 (not neccessarily in that order) during the world cup. Which we're going to win.

Diesel, Staines

Bailiffs mate

The Hobgoblin, Staines

Cracking. Always has a good atmosphere unlike some of the others. Jukebox ace and the new manager is a geezer.

The George, Staines

Subtitles are okay as long as you can read. Me, I'm illiterate so the world is a blissfull mystery to me.

The Hobgoblin, Staines

Agree with the previous poster it does need a lick of paint but not at the expense of turning it into something close to the inside of a well known Swedish furniture retailer ie. hearing aid beige.

1 Feb 2006 07:48

Baroosh, Staines

No atmosphere? You should have been in last night, great music and wall to wall rippers! Miserable staff? Try smiling at them.

The Crown, Egham

New landlord's doing a pretty good job, beer is well kept and theres and interesting range of bottled stuff like Leffe Blonde now. Improving.

The Town Hall, Staines

Apparently the courtroom scene in Ghandi was filmed in this building. Its sheer size internally robs it of a bit of atmosphere but the conversion has been done quite sympathetically. Didn't have any problems with the service either.

19 Sep 2005 10:46

The Swan Hotel, Staines

Has the hottest gents toilet on the face of the earth.

13 Sep 2005 08:02

Ha Ha Bar And Canteen, Staines

Agree with the previous poster, was once asked to sign a petition to get more staff. Staff they do have are always polite (maybe thats because I am as well) and no problems waiting ages to be served. Bit pricey for Staines though but being from Yorkshire I am as tight as a knat's chuff. Toilets clean so a good place to 'grow a tail.'

30 Aug 2005 07:27

The Cock, Staines

Barstaff get naggy when you sing your own words to the Irish Rover.

26 Aug 2005 09:58

The Hobgoblin, Staines

The sort of pub that appeals to everyone, friendly bar and door staff, good service. Toilet door has a habit of breaking which can be a bit disconcerting trying to hold the door shut with one foot whilst trying to give birth to an otter.

25 Aug 2005 13:13

The George, Staines

Useful pub for a cheap few. Food reminds me of the stuff my mum used to make (she couldn't cook, for years I thought we were pagans because of all the burnt offerings on the table.) Toilets usually clean so a handy place to go and crimp one off. Does get rather full sometimes though.

25 Aug 2005 10:47

Baroosh, Staines

Pretty good atmosphere and usually clean toilets so a handy place to nip in for a quick pint and to 'drop a few friends off at the pool' before continuing the circuit.

23 Aug 2005 07:53

The Town Hall, Staines

Yet another characterless formula pub spoiling an interesting historic building. When will the faceless pub chains realise that Staines (contrary to popular and misinformed belief) isn't chock full of fake Burberry clad charvers looking for the next 2 for 1 deal and open somewhere with some character?

10 Aug 2005 10:28

The Old Red Lion, Staines

I am also one for brass, but not the type you mean. Thats why a night out in Staines hits the spot.

10 Aug 2005 09:40

The Hobgoblin, Staines

Still the best (and possibly the only real) pub in Staines.

2 Aug 2005 11:12

The Town Hall, Staines

Note to everyone complaining about poor service: Try smiling, try being polite to the staff, they're doing a job. Standing at the bar tutting and tapping your foot while looking hacked off will not get you served any quicker. So what you have to wait 10 minutes to get served when the place is busy, not exactly going to die of thirst are you?

2 Aug 2005 07:21

The Bells, Staines

Bit of a locals pub on the outskirts of Staines town centre. You know the sort of place - smallish, sells more real beer than alcopops, webbed feet, beaks...

5 Jul 2005 13:00

The Town Hall, Staines

Not likely to be the Town Hall though Peter. Two reasons; firstly its a listed building so they're very limited what they can do to it (ie. soundproofing) and secondly its proximity to the flats behind it. Pity really as its a really interesting building. I do agree with you that Staines need a late night venue for 25's plus.

4 Jul 2005 14:52

The Litten Tree, Staines

Aha! The end of the Litter Tray eh? Can't say I'll miss it.

4 Jul 2005 09:58

No.1 Kew Road, Richmond

Fake Burberry, fake gold chains, attitude. You get the picture.

23 Jun 2005 09:20

The Phoenix, Staines

Pub on the fringe of Staines town centre thats never really managed to live up to its full potential. Huge beer garden next to the river Colne but the pub itself doesn't appeal enough for it ever to get full. Recent refurb hasn't increased its popularity either. Time for a rethink.

16 Jun 2005 09:20

Baroosh, Staines

If they lower the prices or do something stupid like two for one then the place rapidly fills up with Ben Sherman shirts and the atmosphere goes out the window.

16 Jun 2005 09:04

The Victoria Hotel, Beeston

Absolutely superb. Everything a pub should be. Great range of well kept, reasonably priced (I am from Surrey though) beers and the best pub food I've tasted in 10 years. Staff are excellent and the dog by the fire just adds the finishing touch. Worth moving to Beeston just so you can call it your local.

26 May 2005 11:02

The Crown, Egham

Pants, absolute pants. 23rd May went in no Stella and they wouldn't have any until after the bank holiday. Who the hell is running this place? The Keystone Cops? Its bad enough that although dire its the best pub in Egham but unfortunately is usually full of estate agents and charvers but running out of beer? For a week. Jesus, time to move house.

24 May 2005 08:19

High Society Music Bar, Staines

Its known locally as the Sad Cafe and thats what you'd need to be to consider venturing in.

23 May 2005 12:54

The Red Lion, Egham

Good local pub and cheaper than its competition up the road the Crown. Just applied for planning permission to fence off the beer garden.

30 Mar 2005 11:00

Cocco, Staines

Was in here on Friday and the bouncer had ejected some guy who subsequently tried to get back in and got a slap for his trouble. I think we were the only people in the place to notice though which is what you need - unobtrusive security. The place is getting better and better but for christ sake turn the aircon down downstairs!

The Toad at Two Rivers, Staines

Yes, the Hobgoblin.

17 Feb 2005 16:34

The Toad at Two Rivers, Staines

Whats beginning to annoy me are the people posting anonymously trying to infer that Staines as a town can be pigeon-holed as chav. I've lived in various towns in the UK and abroad and I can tell you all there are a hell of a lot of worse places around. I've been in the Toad on a number of occasions and never seen a fight (although I did see a couple ejected for being caught having sex in the toilets - but that was more amusing than anything else) and although its not my favourite bar in town its not as bad as the Anchor or the now seemingly always empty Litten Tree. In fact during the four years I've lived in this area I've only ever seen one fight and that was outside the Hobgoblin. With Baroosh, Ha Ha and Cocco we now have some great bars in Staines, lets all hope Que Pasa comes up to the same standards.

17 Feb 2005 16:09

Baroosh, Staines

BIG doors

16 Feb 2005 15:11

The Crown, Egham

Went in here on Friday and was left waiting for 10 minutes as the oblivious barmaid happily served some scruffy students who had come to the bar after me. Unforgiveable. These people don't deserve your patronage.

14 Feb 2005 10:28

The Toad at Two Rivers, Staines

If the Toad brand was any good (or more importantly generated any significant profit) Eldridge Pope wouldn't have sold them to SDA Ltd. The Toad in Cheltenham got the chop on February 5th, Staines gets it next week and the company have plans to convert another 15 Toads into Que Pasa outlets.

11 Feb 2005 10:35

The Swan Hotel, Staines

Nice big pub on the river next to Staines bridge. Gets packed in the summer.

8 Feb 2005 13:56

Baroosh, Staines

Drop your business card into the jar on the bar to win a free meal for two. It works as well cos I won.

8 Feb 2005 13:47

Cheekees Bar Brasserie, Staines

Awful place. Bad beer and wall to wall charvers.

8 Feb 2005 10:11

Ha Ha Bar And Canteen, Staines

I think the barstaff were remarkably restrained given that you'd just converted their "art" into a giant penis mate.

8 Feb 2005 08:40

The Crown, Egham

Had a few short pints here myself and been short changed on more than one occasion. Usually full of estate agents and charvers.

8 Feb 2005 08:35

The Almamata, Egham

Just been refurbished, big screen for the footie but now full of scruffy students, talking loudly and paying for stuff with cheques.

3 Feb 2005 13:29

Baroosh, Staines

samyj - the "age of the charver" at the Toad is about to come to a very welcome end as its closing for a refurb to re-open as Que Casa. I agree with you - I don't mind paying 3.10 for a pint of Stella in a bar free from charvers.

3 Feb 2005 08:34

The Toad at Two Rivers, Staines

Not a question of being rude about the place, its simple economics. The place is nearly always empty, it can't be making any money.

1 Feb 2005 11:12

The Toad at Two Rivers, Staines

I don't think anyone can really believe a company like QP would throw a load of money at the place without doing any market research first. The fact that current patrons have not been asked for their opinions probably means they won't be welcome after the refurb.

31 Jan 2005 14:23

Cocco, Staines

Brilliant - great music and no charvers.

10 Jan 2005 10:29

Baroosh, Staines

Staines best bar of the moment, utterly charver free.

6 Jan 2005 11:27

The Toad at Two Rivers, Staines

Fantastic! I notice a couple of people questioning the idea of a tapas bar in Staines but you wouldn't have thought Ken Hom would open a restaurant here a couple of years ago. I think its a great idea, there are people who live in this town from higher socio-economic groups than the charvers the place is famous for who currently spend their money (yes, earned from jobs) in other places who would appreciate a bar of this type in Staines.

6 Jan 2005 11:21

Ha Ha Bar And Canteen, Staines

When I was in before Christmas I was asked to sign a petition by one of the staff members so the parent company would let them employ more staff. Possibly the lack of staff is leading to some of the negative comments about service below?

6 Jan 2005 08:36

The Litten Tree, Staines

I notice from Spelthorne council's website that the Litten Tree has applied for a late licence. Possibly a reaction to the iminent changes at the Toad?

6 Jan 2005 08:31

The Toad at Two Rivers, Staines

When they ban charvers.
