The Red Lion, Thames Ditton

A new landlord/ chef has recently taken over this pub and it has been completely refurbished. It is now well worth a visit. The decor is fairly striking (e.g. reclaimed doors as the bar front) the atmosphere is friendly, the beer excellent, and the food really good too - refreshing daily menu of fresh cooked food. Locals are voting with their feet as it is usually fairly busy. The back area is now closed off but may open in the future.

The Colomendy Arms, Cadole

This is a real pub - about as far removed from those horrible chain bars as you can get, and all the better for it. Small and welcoming, fantastic range of real ales, all kept excellently, log fire in winter. No music, just good beer, fireside chat, dominoes and darts. Go there. We need to use these pubs if they are not to wither and die.

Ye Olde Swan Inn, Thames Ditton

Have to disagree with the last 2 posts. I have been to this pub a number of times. It has recently been renovated with much better layout, decor and more seating outside. Overall the pub is a good place for a few beers in the evening, or a meal out. The quality of the food has improved, but this is a pub. You are going to get pub grub, and at that level it is fine. If you want cordon bleu, go to the French Table. Have to say that the service is very good, and have no problems with the Manager who has always been friendly. If you need to make a complaint, its how you do it that counts - assertive not aggressive.

The George and Dragon, Thames Ditton

Have to agree with the last comment. The landlord of this pub is the worst thing about it. He is rude, small minded and totally unwelcoming. That said, he is not always around and the other staff are generally efficient and friendly. Bar tends to be dominated by loud locals. Comes into its own on rugby days and if you are into Premier league footy - not everyone's bag. Still, it serves a good pint.

Quarryman, Edmonton

Good food if a little expensive for a pub (15.50 for a rump) - I wonder if the prices go up in August. Worth booking in summer as this is a popular place. Excellent range of well kept beers eg Adnams Regatta as guest and the usual Doom Bar and other local brews. Very good rapid service. All round worth a visit, and somewhat better than other pubs in the area. Tiny terraced old miners cottages at the back are for rent - very cosy and handy for the pub!

Ye Olde Swan Inn, Thames Ditton

Just read last review and realised we were the people on the next table suggesting the couple get a free drink for moving. This was an unfortunate incident, and could have been handled better, but in general the staff are friendly. The quiz is on the first Weds of each month is fun. This pub comes into its own in the summer, and its a very pleasant pint by the river. There is a relatively new manager here and after a slightly dodgy start on the food front (bad chef poss) it is now much better. Worth a visit.

Raintree, Thames Ditton

This is now trading as the Raintree. It is principally an Indian restaurant with a small bar area. Food is excellent and good value. Southern India style. Quite hot!

City Arms, Thames Ditton

Just started going to this pub, having driven past it almost every day for several years, and wondering what it was like. Its quite small, but service is excellent - a really friendly pub, and doing even better trade now the Ferry is closed. Try the quiz every other Wednesday - quite testing though!

The Hare and Hounds, Worthing

Good selection of beers. HSB was top notch. Lots of wood panelling, with more traditional atmosphere. Friendly barman. Mix of young and old, so not for the All Bar One crowd. Probably the best pub within walking distance of the town centre.

Ye Olde Swan Inn, Thames Ditton

Has the slight feel of a chain pub - but the beer is good, and the position by the river excellent. Food is much improved recently and staff are friendly. Worth a visit, though if you want that special occasion meal go somewhere else.

The George and Dragon, Thames Ditton

Busy pub, popular with locals. Good beer. Shows Rugby and Football. Worth a visit. Landlord runs a tight ship so don't cross him.

Raintree, Thames Ditton

Oh dear. A chav's paradise. OK if you want football, 20 fags an hour and lager. Guinness was undrinkable which is hard to achieve. One to avoid.
