The Reindeer Inn, Hoveringham

This used to be a favourite haunt of mine, not so much lately, when I noticed that the price for one and a half pints of bitter, and a small dry white wine was nearly a tenner! That could have been a mistake obviously, unless it was a Puligny Montrachet, in which case it was cheap, but I somehow doubt it was!

Im not a skin flint, but the fact that the beer wasnt overly well kept (at least not on my last visit) and the "in crowd" around the bar were not, to say the least, interested in moving to let one get served, didnt bode well with me.
Hey, my platinum cards and cash are worth the same as theirs arent they?
Id say drive into Caythorpe, and sample the delights of The Black Horse.

The Black Horse, Caythorpe

Wonderful pub, formerly supplied by the sadly now extinct Shipstones brewery, but now brewing its own beer, and in fairness, a much nicer brew than the original Shippo's bitter! Usually a good choice of hand pulled real ale, and extremely good food available, either snacky things, or good, filling meals, usually cooked and indeed served by the landlady Sharon, daughter of the original landlady, well she was there in 1974 when I first went in!

Cosy decor too, and thankfully no gaming machines or piped musak!

Hotel Deux, Sherwood Rise

Despite living a few miles away, I try and vist here whenever I can, Rob the owner is a great character, and he certainly knows how to keep, and serve a perfect pint of real ale.
There are usually four hand pulled bitters on offer, each with a distinctly different taste, but all are usually at their best!
There is regular live music in The Guitar Bar, and ample car parking, just make sure you get a car parking permit though, as folk from across the road at The Polish Club tend to use his car park as if its their own!
Highly recommended!

The Lord Moon Of The Mall, Whitehall

My daughter who works at The Picadilly Theatre, took me here last week, and I was really impressed with every aspect of the place, possibly with the exception of the gaming machines, but hey ho, you cant have everything!
It was a really pleasant surprise to find the prices here much lower than in my home town of Nottingham, apart from the current offer of Green King IPA which is a wopping 50p dearer than back home! (Joke btw,a pint for under 1.50 is amazing!) even if it is only 99p in the East Midlands!
The beer I tried was Darwins .....erm.....something or other, sorry, Ive forgotten! It was a fairly light bitter, with an amazing taste, I could have imbibed lots more, but was driving, and at a low 2.29 a pint, was astonishing value.
There were not that many people in, although at 10.45 on a Tuesday night, perhaps one wouldnt expect it.
Next time Im in London, and not driving, I look forward to more than the one pint!

Bar Med, Torquay

I last visited Bar Med last year, and was happily surprised to see that a long time mate of mine was managing the place, despite it being a fairly quiet monday evening prior to the school holidays, he made the place buzz! Having worked with Taz in various clubs and bars, and him being a regular guest on my radio show, i disagree about not letting him dj! The boy's a natural!...Now......where did i put my hearing aid.........?
