The Lord Nelson, Southwold

This is a really lovely pub in Southwold serving decent pub food but the drinks are way overpriced. On my visit Oyster, Mosaic and Broadside were all £4 a pint which is ridiculous.
I live in Suffolk and have found that a lot of the Adnams pubs in 'holiday' locations seem to think it's acceptable to fleece their customers on drink prices. I presume they feel they can get away with it as most of their customers are only around for a short time, and once in the pub they probably are not going to move on. When I mentioned it to the staff the attitude wasn't much better, am I bothered?
You can get cheaper pints of Adnams in London! The Adnams brewery is in Southwold!
Madness complete madness.
I used to like visiting this pub not anymore, my local does beer for £3.20 a pint up to 4.5% and £3.60 for beers over that.
Such a shame they have to resort to such brazen overcharging.

The Dolphin Inn, Thorpeness

Well, we visited this pub for lunch today and the food was very good and all very reasonable prices as well, plus the staff were friendly. Beer was on the expensive side with Adnams bitter at 3.40, but what is unforgivable is they charge exactly the same for Adnams Sole Star! Sole Star is one of a new brew of beers which fall below the duty threshold the government set for low alcohol beers so there is none or very little duty on them. The idea is that pubs can then sell these beers at a cheaper price so they can attract customers. So most 'normal' pubs sell these beers for 2.50, not 3.40 as they are charging here. It beggars belief that a pub charges 3.40 for a beer with a 2.7% alcohol level!
The government brought in this legislation so that pubs were able to sell a beer at a very reasonable price in order to help the pub trade. It is no wonder more and more pubs are going under if they just see this as a way of making a quick buck!
A big shame as otherwise it is a nice pub.

The Wentworth Hotel, Aldeburgh

This is a hotel, but they do serve a nice pint of Adnams and have a nice bar in which to sit and enjoy your pint. They do excellent food with a bar menu or a restaurant menu, we have tried both and the food was very, very good. Not cheap but then again not very expensive, I think for a 'posh' hotel they have it priced sensibly. I know some mediocre pubs that charge more for food than this hotel.
Staff very helpful and they will put ramps out for wheelchair access for you, and even push the wheelchair up the ramp as well. The disabled loo has to be the best in Suffolk, it is so big you could hold a party! And decorated very smartly my wife was most impressed.
It is quite smart inside and there are lots of different seating options available with a lounge, the bar, the restaurant, terrace and conservatory.
Another place we would happily revisit, in fact we are for our wedding anniversary :-)

The Kings Head, Yoxford

It has been a while since we last visited this pub but what a great place it is now! My wife is in a wheelchair so we were looking for somewhere that had disabled loos and I had seen this pub on the Suffolk Camera website.
Well, the new loos are superb, usually disabled loos, if there is one, tend to be a bit on the small size. This one is great with plenty of room to take the wheelchair, my wife was most pleased.
We decided to eat here as well and the food was excellent, we both had the cod and chips which were huge more like Moby Dick and chips. The fish was excellent really fresh and nicely cooked and the chips were very good as well. Not a bad price at under 10, which for Suffolk is good as some pubs can charge nearer 13 or more for fish and chips, but this pub was very reasonable.
I had the Adnams bitter and it was very good so I had a couple.
Staff were friendly, service great, food superb, beer excellent, what more could you want? We will certainly visit again.
The pub has two bars one is more of a drinkers bar which had some friendly locals in it who happily directed us to the other bar via the wheelchair friendly access.
My wife came away feeling quite happy, as sometimes when in a wheelchair you can feel a bit down at the lack of disabled facilities.

The Ship Inn, Blaxhall

Really nice pub, good welcome from the staff when you step through the door. Nice selection of beers on hand pump, up to four real ales. They are selling the low alcohol Tolly English Ale for 2.50 unlike some who want to charge the same as normal beer.
Nice selection of food at reasonable prices and very nice it is too!
Live music some evenings which can be fun, try Monday lunchtime when some of the locals perform very entertaining!

The Jolly Sailor, Orford

I don't believe it this pub is the same as the Kings Head in Orford charging over the odds on the duty exempt beer!
What is it about Orford that they feel they can rip the customer off by charging over the odds?
Presumably they rely on customers on holiday who don't really check what things cost and blindly pay the charges.
More fool them is all I can say because if a pub is ripping them off to the tune of 75 pence a pint what must they be ripping them off on the more expensive items like food? I shudder to think, oh well another pub I won't be visiting again in Orford!

The Kings Head, Orford

Well, I was not very impressed with this pub at all bit of a rip off. They have on draught Adnams Sole Star which is one of the breed on lower alcohol beers which are exempt from duty. This was brought in by the government in a bid to allow pubs to sell a 'cheaper' low alcohol beer to try and attract custom. Except where other pubs are charging 2.50 for a pint of Sole Star this pub seems to want to rip off its customers and charge 3.25 a pint! That's 75 pence over the odds, which then beggars the question. If they are prepared to rip their customers off like that on a pint of beer what are they ripping them off on their food and the like?
Sorry I will not be visiting this pub again for drink or food as they obviously have no qualms what they charge their customers.
