The White Horse, Welton

Stumbled across this gem of a pub almost by accident. Was on a canal holiday on the Grand Union and found this pub on a short walk. Absolutely brilliant. Great beers, good food, lovely old pub and large beer garden. Good looking landlady and pleasant staff. I think this is the first pub I have ever rated on here with a 10.

Very highly recommended.

Society Rooms, Stalybridge

Typical Wetherspoons - Large pub, very busy, good range of ales, cheap prices, surly staff and not enough of 'em, very long wait to get served.

Cotton Bale, Hyde

All the other reviews are right - this is a very bad place. I occassionally walk in, wait five minuts to get served (when there are no other customers queing) and then walk out again. The viewable areas are dirty and falling to bits, so fck knows what the bits you can't see are like. You could do an archaelogical dig on the dirt that is on the tables, and the ashtrays rival K2.
Full of scroats, lowlifes, thugs and idiots. They have a strange policy of ordering nothing but strong ales instead of a range. You go in and there will be 4 ales on. But all of them will be over 5%. No session beers, but then again, you probably wouldn't want to stay long in the dump. It has air conditioning, which you might think is a good thing, but it seems to be programmed for Reykjavk, the average winter temperature is about -?. I have never been brave enough to eat at the Cotton Bale.

Peels Arms, Padfield

First came here in summer 2006. About 10 minutes walk from Hadfield Rail Station. Very impressed. The food was good and the menu excellent. Guest real ales, friendly staff, prompt service and reasonable prices. Have returned five or six times and the standard is consistant. Can getting very busy at weekend. The pub is friendly with a mixture of locals and diners from further afield. Recommended.
