Sadly yet another pub closed

The Shanakee, Ealing

I must return, as other than the name, not much seems to have changed since April 2003!

The Boot, Baldock

This is now my local and I'm getting fond of it. Seemed to be the only pub open in Baldock on Boxing Day and consequently had a cracking atmosphere. I've noticed a sign advertsing a "business opportunity" so hopefully it won't go the way of The George and Dragon etc

The Old White Horse, Baldock

Quite livley on Saturday night, my girlfriend's favourite pub in Baldock

The George and Dragon, Baldock

Modern roomy pub that probably has music in the evening at weekends. Food in there at lunchtime is good and the service very friendly.

The Orange Tree, Baldock

Had a stunning beer garden though was very quite (in the Longe at least on Saturday night). Hope it was just an off night as this hopefully will be by local!

The White Lion, Baldock

A very pleasant and welcoming boozer, has a very nice beer garden and the pub itself was lively with a good mix of punters last Saturday night

The Spencer Arms, Putney

Now re-opended as The Spencer Arm's (which it was originally called years ago). Despite the name it is much more of a resturant than a pub.

On the plus side the pub bit is OK, they serve draft Heineken, Amstel and some german stuff I'd never heard of, the food looks good and there is still the outside seating.

On the minus side the 'pub part' is not very big and obviously the big TV's have gone. I prefered it as the page although it could have worse!

I hope they make a go of it as the pub across the road is being turned into flats after two or three food driven re-incarnations and its a fair trek to The Half Moon.

The Rose and Crown, Allhallows

This pub has got an excellent beer garden thats great in the summer. Rest of the points Alex makes are fair. However you want to go back in December when the Christmas lights go up....they must fire up an extra turbine at Kingsnorth power station to light the things up. I think they and another pub in Stoke try and out illuminate each other. The result is that any funds put aside for a much needed refurbishment is blown on electricity. Apparently.

The British Pilot, Allhallows

I agree with Lea, used to go there occasionally when my Mum had a caravan on the holiday park, always made to feel welcome even though its was obvious I wasn't a local (rubber ring and sombrero must have given it away!)

The Spencer Arms, Putney

Closed from 12th April to the 10th May for refurbishment. I hope it remains a pub of some description.

The O'Conor Don, Bond Street

In there for a festive pint last night.Quite an authentic Irish pub serving excellent Guinness. Good atmosphere and have some very attractive East European waitresses. Great (if expensive) chips but don't go for the 'roast special'. Don't allow dogs in but as the waitresses don't mind bringing your drinks out into the street not really a problem!

The Market Porter, Borough
