Had a really nice meal here with friends last night. The staff were extremely friendly and service was excellent. The food was superb - I had roast duck breast with the creamiest mash I ever tasted - and I tried some of my bloke's pork belly which was scrumptious. The prices are expensive - for a gastro pub - then again but I think the Spencer Arms is leaning more towards restaurant than gastro pub. Nice location too, as it's tucked away down Lower Richmond Road it keeps the masses away! Overall, we had a thoroughly enjoyable time at Spencer Arms. Recommended. Sweeps - 8 Feb 2008 16:43
Visited at 21.15 hrs this evening for dinner (having driven back from Hampshire especially) only to be told by the staff that the kitchen had closed at 21.00 hrs despite the advertised kitchen closing time of 21.45 hrs (ref: Alastair Sawday 2007 Pubs & Inns of England & Wales). This was pointed out to the chef but to no avail and despite the fact that there were empty dining tables available. We will not return. zeitlin - 11 Jun 2007 00:01
Does anyone still drink in here from the old days when Sarah ran the place in the mid 90's??? anonymous - 22 Oct 2006 20:40
cracking boozer. one slightly gormless fella behind the bar, but the waiter who looked after us was great. Food was very good - lemon risotto, and the black pudding with apple coleslaw was awesome. will be back. nice set up too. alexhooker - 16 Jun 2006 12:50
15 of us had lunch here in December for our 'Girls Christmas Lunch'. We had a great time - the service was brilliant, they didn't mind us rearranging the tables, or our (very noisy) conversation. Lunch was very good and we got serenaded by a chap on his bagpipes as there was a pre-wedding lunch going on at the same time. It wasn't particularly cheap but we did order fizz as well as wine so that probably added a bit to the cost. Would definitely recommend it for lunch/dinner. cathk - 16 Jan 2006 14:28
