The Buckingham Arms, Shoreham by Sea

Always a good selection of ales, but they're not always in good form. The pub is let down by noise and bad language.

26 May 2013 15:48

The Whitesmith Arms, Borough

And a month later it's open got business again!
The freehold appears to be for sale.

11 Jan 2013 13:44

The Whitesmith Arms, Borough

Very sad, this pub is now closed and boarded up.

8 Dec 2012 13:07

The Jolly Tanners, Staplefield

Beer festival at The Jolly Tanners this coming Bank Holiday weekend.
Food available and live music at all sessions.

20 Aug 2012 14:25

Rackstraws Farm, Sandhurst

Sounds like nothing has changed since I was there 20 odd years ago!

6 Jan 2012 11:35

The Whitesmith Arms, Borough

Or was it London Prude?
Forgive the typo!

6 Jan 2012 11:25

The Whitesmith Arms, Borough

Yes, re-opened a few months ago.
Usually quiet in the evening, apart from the jukebox! Had an average pint of London Prode.

6 Jan 2012 11:24

The Halfway House, Edinburgh

I had a similar experience a couple of days before, not the barman or landlord being foulmouthed, rather some of the regular clientele. And possibly the worst squawky sounding jukebox ever, so I had two reasons to insert the ear plugs! The beer choice was more limited than in the past.

9 Oct 2011 13:50

The Whitesmith Arms, Borough

Currently closed and painted all over black.
I hope that's not the shade of things to come!

26 Jun 2011 18:34

The Peyton Arms, Stoke Lyne

What a wonderful find, just off the M40 at junction 10.
Called in on a Saturday lunchtime, received a warm welcome from Mick The Hat and enjoyed some excellent Hook Norton Best Bitter and a cheese roll.

19 Apr 2011 10:55

The Red Lion, Histon

An otherwise good pub let down by rude and arrogant bar staff.

19 Apr 2011 10:42

The Black Bull, Sawston

All change in the last few months.
Reasonable family run pub with real ale and traditional if somewhat exspensive food.

29 Dec 2010 11:47

The Hare and Hounds, Cowfold

The new landlady is doing a splendid job here, excellent beer and good value food.

8 Dec 2010 14:19

The Talbot Inn, Cuckfield

Re-opened after a lengthy refit. Good choice of local beer, but damn pricey!
A designer pub for designer people.

8 Dec 2010 14:09

Diamond, Londonderry

A barrel of Hilden arrived in the morning, was put on at lunchtime, and was vinegar by 9 O'clock! Says a lot for their cellarmanship.

9 Oct 2010 11:18

The Grove Inn, Huddersfield

Visited this pub for the first time the other week. "Why have I not been before," I ask myself. Wonderful beer choice, good conversation with the locals and knowledgeable staff. Excellent!

9 Oct 2010 11:10

The Jolly Tanners, Staplefield

The August Bank Holiday Beer Festival is in full swing!
Champion beers, real cider, live music, good food.

28 Aug 2010 14:14

The Victory, Staplefield

Perhaps ackersontour arrived in his own Tardis - the pub didn't seem to be open on 1 May!

4 May 2010 10:50

The Jolly Tanners, Staplefield

I note that these recent comments, be they good, bad, offensive and rude, or indeed libellous, do not seem to have had an adverse effect upon trade at this place at all.
Knowing that the other pub in the village has recently closed, its future uncertain, the proprietors here must be doing something right!

31 Mar 2010 12:30

The Four Chestnuts, Chichester

Good pub on the east side of town.
Usually two or three real ales available, including a mild.
Good value food, too.

18 Feb 2010 01:08

The Henty Arms, Ferring

One of the best pubs in the area.
Good choice of real ales and very good value home-cooked food.
15 minutes walk from Goring By Sea station, alternatively bus 700 Brighton - Portsmouth passes close by.

18 Feb 2010 01:03

The Royal Oak Inn, Great Wishford

A friendly welcome is assured at this great traditional rural pub.
Pleasant surroundings, log fires, a good selection of up to 4 real ales and wholesome food awaits you.
The regular No. 2 Salisbury-Devizes bus passes the door.

21 Jan 2010 11:48

The Old Royal Oak, Knaresborough

Often written as "WYBMADIITY?" but the message is the same!

14 Sep 2009 09:41

The Betjeman Arms, St Pancras International Station

Reviewer mally rightly acknowledges the tendency here to serve "short measure".
This has been my experience upon every visit.
Having said that, the staff will top-up your pint if you ask, and ask you should. I was told the other day to wait untit the barman had served somebody else, which actually worked in my favour, as my beer had settled a littIe more by then!

19 Apr 2009 23:34

The White Horse Inn, Beverley

Yes, alas, Anna has moved on.
The new menu is an example of the Samuel Smith 'corporitisation', along with the super-cooled beer.

31 Jan 2009 01:12

The Hare and Hounds, Cowfold

New Landlord from September 2008.
Good choice of local beers. Very promising.

7 Nov 2008 10:41

The Betjeman Arms, St Pancras International Station

A reasonable meeting place, and better than its opposite number as you fall off the Eurostar in Paris!
The beer was good, if a little too cold, and I too was served seriously short measure

10 Oct 2008 12:41

The Star, Royston

New licensee from today.
Fingers are tightly crossed!

10 Oct 2008 12:21

The British Queen, Cambridge

This pub is closed and boarded up.

10 Oct 2008 12:19

The Vine, Pamphill

Tiny, but what an excellent pub, well worth the detour as the A31 was closed!
Not difficult to find at all, the map got me there as easily as the sat nav.
Good beer and simple yet excellent Cheese Ploughman's.

7 Sep 2008 19:59

The Rickety Press, Oxford

Two out of the three pints of beer I was offered on a recent visit were undrinkable.
The Theakstons XB was not only cloudy but had large bits floating in it, I haven't seen that sort of thing in a long time.
I was accused of being rude when I asked for it to be changed.
Any perceived rudeness on my part was eclipsed somewhat by the foul language from the locals, which appeared to be acceptable.

9 Aug 2008 12:20

The Harcourt Arms, Oxford

A proper pub, but with London Pride at 3.10 a pint (and I have to say that it was not a particularly good pint)it's hardly much competition in a sea of Greene King.

9 Aug 2008 12:09

The George and Dragon, Tarring

Superb value curry night on Tuesdays, well presented and has all the right flavours.
Just what this pub has needed fo a long time, good value evening food!
I negotiated to trade the inclusive Cobra for a pint of Harveys!
Looking forward to the next time.

27 Jul 2008 01:08

The Royal Oak, Borough

I take it all back....
Called in for a couple on the evening of Thursday 24 July: the Pale was hazy and lacked condition and the Best Bitter was taken off because it would not clear. The otherwise excellent barman did his best, but sadly I think these were circumstances beyond his control.
This will not stop me using the pub though, the Mild was very good!

27 Jul 2008 00:57

The Woolpack, Sawston

This pub is closed and boarded-up, probably for good. I wonder where the smackheads go now?

20 Jul 2008 10:59

The Royal Oak, Borough

Yes, I've always had a decent pint in this fine pub. The BLT sandwiches are superb.
My only gripe would be that the acoustics are awful, and it does get very noisy at times. I went there recently when there was a group of shrieking tarts in the front bar. Had to put the earplugs in.

11 Jul 2008 13:05

The Cowdray Arms, Balcombe

Their website still advertises Dark Star Old Ale, which they don't sell!
It seems that this place is now an advertising stage for the Audi dealership up the road. Makes you wonder what they'll think of next!

11 Jul 2008 12:59

The New Inn, Clitheroe

The Gunpowder Mild was excellent when I visited the other day. Don't forget to visit Booths supermarket across the way - cheapest bottled beer around!

24 Jun 2008 11:04

The White Horse Inn, Beverley

Made my annual pilgrimage here recently. The OBB had gone up to 1-39 a pint. Scandalous!

24 Jun 2008 10:58

Elm Tree, Cambridge

Upon recommendation, I called in here after falling out of the Cambridge Beer Festival a couple of weeks ago.
With due respect to Bunter, this pub is just what Cambridge needs - another proper real ale outlet within 500yds of the city centre!
And open all day!

7 Jun 2008 01:46

Woolly Sheep Inn, Skipton

A Timothy Taylor's showcase pub, but perhaps the most expensive pint of Landlord in all of Christendom!

8 May 2008 11:03

Geordies Byre, Wallacetown

Can't understand why there aren't more reviews for this place - it's the best! Maybe it's because nobody knows where Wallacetown is - I'd never heard of the district 'til I read this.
Move it to Ayr!

29 Mar 2008 02:02

The Red Lion, Histon

I attended the Easter Aperitif beer festival last weekend, despite the snow! Always welcoming and friendly, this pub put on a wonderful show of Real Ales from local and not-so local brewers.
Just what a pub should be.

29 Mar 2008 01:27

The Cowdray Arms, Balcombe

Oh, dear!
I think that 'JohnTheBeerMonster' needs a spelling lesson: it's Greene (with an 'e') King.
Furthermore, a reality lesson wouldn't go amiss: it's not the "pork scratching behind the bar" that he hears, but the rat that regularly strutted its stuff through the conservatory during lunchtime sessions!
My hard-earned cash regularly rattled in the till of this establishment in a past life when it was a Real Ale drinker's paradise. That, of course, was in the good old days before Greene King took it over, leaving the the wallpaper to peel, throwing out the Harveys Best Bitter and forcing the discerning Real Ale drinkers to leave and discover pastures new.
