what a great pub,two bus loads of us went before coalville fa vase match, couldnt have been more helpfull. The food was excelent, cant beleive the chef managed to feed us all in the time he did,and not with fast food either ,his home made chips and burgers were the best ever. The staff were very friendly,Lovely beer and great price.A big thankyou to you all, you set our day off with a really good start, just a pitty our team lost, hope to visit you again soon.thanks from all the coalville town football supporters.

While real ale merchants will probably head for the Greyhound, 'The Chequers' should not be overlooked for food. Lunch was tasty and competently cooked. The home made chips are the best I have ever had in a pub, cafe or restaurant. I would definitely eat here again.

This is a good traditional pub with friendly staff and has been my local for 20 years. I agree the 'real ale' is unpredictable, this is due to lack of use. People just having a few of pints on a Friday/Sat night and then not coming back until the following week doesn't give the beer the through-put it needs It can't compete with The Greyhound (which is only a few yards away) and is probably the best in Hendon for 'real ale'.
As for keg beer it can't be any better/worse than anywhere else.
The pub has recently brought in a good selection of bottled 'real ales' which has gone down well (literally)!
As regards the fence, it affords privacy, security, safety for children from the busy road and reduces the noise and dust from the same. All in all a good idea.
Sorry, if this sounds like an advertisement but I don't like my local being rubbished.

Was slightly unsure how to take this pub. The price of beer was quite appealing but taste slightly off. Didn't stay for more than one drink, seemed a bit rough and not too welcoming. A few friends have eaten there before and said the food was below average for the price they paid.

Well, wandered in here on a Saturday evening. The woman behind the bar is best described as surly. No ales. No reason given. Keg Smiths available. That probably says it all! The fence on the outside just adds to the dreadful look of the place. Looking at some of the other posts here, I can only assume that the posters are either part of the local mafia or they work in the place. Discourteous service, no ale and decidedly iffy ciustomers make this a place I shall not be rushing back to.
