A fantastic venue foir a fantastic pub - good food, good ale and the service is good and able - maybe a little to do between the servings but the rest excellent. A friendly place - good selection of ales and it all tasted right - not often I give 9/10 but this place couldn't be faulted much. Very much recommend it.

The same people who run this now run the Star at Ingatestone which was run by Roger for 30 years .

Yes, I agree, a nice country pub. However beware should you request additional bread to go with the somewhat meagre half slice served with your seafood trio...you will be charged extra for this without being advised of it!

Yes agree with the previous reviewers. The beer is excellent. There's a wide choice although nothing over 4.7% last saturday. Plentry of bottled beers too. The beer is served direct from the cask out back. Can get very busy and I wonder where drinkers are supposed to sit without eating? We got the last table for two right by the bar at 7.15. The food, we thought, was a little disappointing and expensive. The Hunters chicken was small and on the tough side whilst my steak and ale pie - the chefs signature dish - had a very high crust but was essentially a small stew in a dish. You can't beat proper pies cut from a baking tin! Both dishes were around £9 - £10. Overall, a great place for a drink if you don't mind sitting outside.

Went to this puib a few weeks ago. Friendly bar staff and well kept beers. Food looked very good but there seemed to be some service issues on a nearby table. Well worth a visit.
