Thanks for the comments Millay, great to see constructive critism for a change. In my defence we only have 4 operational hand pumps, two are dummies and there purposely to advertise the next on,but i can see your point so am going to change the set up.The Tup has gone from zero to 80gl+ per week in real ale sales in a little over 18 months which i'm very proud of, plus the fact that the mighty Edward Theakston has chosen my pub twice to do real ale cellar courses because of this, makes me doubly proud and in the main means we get it right. I also prefer to have two fast moving real ales on then 3-4 slow. I apologise your pint was below our usual high standard,we only use guest ales and stay away from the 'Bombardiers and London Prides etc because we want to be adventurous, this can back fire on us occasionally by not using the main stream ones. I've personally worked on real ale for 19yrs,at one time i was serving from 36gl casks and doing 14 a week. Hopefully you will try us again, believe me our real ale sales have rocketed and its the hardest market out there to please, cheers and all the best, Andy andylicenseetup - 14 May 2008 23:43
Bills itself as “SW19’s Premier Rugby Pub” and it may well be so. There are a number of TV’s including two large drop down screens. There’s a large outside seating area that I imagine is popular in the Summer months. The disappointing thing was that although they have 6 hand pumps only two were in operation, two of them had signs saying “available soon“, one said “I just run out” and the other had an identity crisis. I had a not too good pint of Bitter & Twisted, and after being charged £3.10 I was. Millay - 11 May 2008 20:04
This is a cracking place. A real local. It was THE ONLY place to be during the six nations. Andy always makes such an effort when hosting events - you always feel welcome. The staff are friendly and Sunday night quiz is great. I've lost count of the amounts of great nights I've had there. treeherb - 16 Apr 2008 21:16
My mates and I love this place, it's welcoming, fun and in a prime location. Andy has really made the pub worth visiting especially with the theme nights My only negative, the food. There needs to be a bigger selection of pub type food especially platters. The Nachos are great but there are so many other options such as Thai, Indian and Chinese style platters etc. And where are the puddings we were promised 2 years ago!!! Also almost everything on the menu has cheese with it! Nevertheless I will still visit on a weekly basis.....just not to eat. kittycat - 23 Mar 2008 15:58
| takings might be up, but the tup has really gone downhill, the barstaff are rude and grumpy, the food is crap and drinks are overpriced. its a total meat market on a friday/saturday - if you fancy having sweaty local mingers drooling over you then head on down the ratio is about 10 blokes to each girl so you'll have your pick! used to be good...emphasis on used to!
