This used to be my local in the '70's... it was thriving then and on occasional visits over the years since, always came up to expectations under John's expert touch. Gone now are the barrels racked up behind the bar. What a simple, practical but great touch that was..! I had a couple of decent pints here last nite (Pride & £3-a-pint Greene King IPA..!), but what's happened to the place..? Sanitized, standardized, blanded-up, or what..? Well, I say that, but there was a Goth couple runnin' the bar, so I suppose that mite be a plus..! Hardly anybody in the place at 9pm... I'm not surprized... nice fire on a cold nite though..!

This was not only the best pub in Amersham, but one of the absolute greats until Zola Hotels took over. What goes through the mind of somebody who seeing something old and genuine simply has to destroy it. There would be some excuse if the pub had been quiet or run down, but it used to be pretty much heaving.

Absolute bloody vandalism.

Oh dear - re-opened as part of the Zola Hotel Group.

Best to look at the local Amersham forum for reviews.

Terrible - and they know it.

Revised my old review for the pub (9) to (0).

What have they done?

Rumour has it that this great pub is closing down, to be turned into a hotel and conference centre.

Amersham won't have any pubs left at his rate !
