A good place for a few pints with mates, but not the best place to take a date. Pool table in the garden. bananasforbeer_com - 5 Nov 2007 16:32
Not a nice place. Disgustingly smoky and a pretty paltry selection of ales on offer. Zapatilla_Unida - 10 May 2007 15:09
One of the oldest pubs in Amersham (you can refer to other websites about it's ghosts/martyrs etc). Excellent books about it's history are also available from the Amersham library. It also supplies a very good B&B service. That was the good news, now the bad news. Unfortunately, since the Iron Horse closed down - the place has become full of nut-cases (one of whom is well known throughout the area). It's changed from a welcoming pub, to one whereby I've been threatened with physical violence (purely because I was reading a newspaper and wouldn't respond to a nutter who was hitting me on my arm - believe me it happened.). The owners and staff are extremely nice people, but will not do anything about it. To give you an example, they'll serve 11 pints of understrength lager to one local nutter as he can't tell the difference. This same nutter has lots of friends who laugh at him, and not with him. Never take a girlfriend into this place - it's extremely embarrassing, as the local idiots will point her out and then sit next to you and make disgusting remarks. I'll make more comments later - but I'm currently writing a novel about this place - it makes 'Bedlam' look like a bloody duck pond. A nice 'zero' for this place at the moment. anthony2 - 12 Aug 2005 02:21
