| Went there for Sunday lunch yesterday. First time my mother & girlfriend had met, so wanted a pleasant atmosphere. We all had a wonderful time. Arrived at two and managed to get a table for four straight away. Be warned they don't take reservations, but was reasonably quiet by 2. Service was exceptional and I'm really hard to please. Our waiter was knowledgeable about the food, beer & wine and charm personified. The specials menu was extensive, mainly fish based but a great deal of choice from standard menu. Food wonderful, I recommend the Lobster. The Speckled Hen was very well kept. We'll all be going back. gazem - 30 Jun 2008 15:30 |
| I've been eating and drinking in the Tiger's Head for over 12 years and it's had its ups and downs like most pubs. However, over the last year or so and under new management, the pub is now better than ever. The food (inside, the pub is predominantly restaurant) is consistently of a very high standard with a main menu of indispensable pub classics, a good fish selection and lots more but there's also a great "specials" menu. The staff are very helpful and one or two in particular are superb waitors. The patio garden is reasonably large and secluded with a variety of different shrubs and colourful window box/potted displays. When I was in there last week there was some excellent live music from a jazzy acoustic duo singing and playing double bass and acoustic guitar. I would have once written a bad review for this pub but, be assured, some of these previous reviews are outdated. OH! And I didn't mention the drinks! What am I thinking?? Of course there is a wine menu to suit all tastes and always a few ales on draft including at least one "guest" ale (currently Old Peculiar). A lot of pubs in the area have gone downhill in recent years but it's reassuring to see this one finally making a comeback as a PROPER pub. I hope the current management hang around! | Things must have improved since some of these earlier posts. Beer was good, the gentleman (and he WAS a gentleman) who waited our table was prompt, but not pushy, helpfully but not gushing, funny but not intrusive. The food, WOW. I'd never tried a cheese cake as a starter before, but smoked salmon was excelent. It was nice to find something with subtle flavoured instead of everything being overpowered with chilli as seems to be the norm most places in recent years. Main course was well cooked and well presented, and the dessert, a beautiful warm chocolate concoction worth every calory. the wine was excelent, coffee hot and not too strong. We will return. | Having read the reviews, and been invited for a meal by friends I was not looking forward to my evening, but WOW. A young barman with the look of a reformed rocker, pony tail any all, served us very attentively, and asked if we would like to set up a tab, assuring us that all further drinks could be ordered from our table. A slim and attractive waitress served us with a polite and friendly manner. Our food was hot, fresh and tasty. Our party ordered from both the main menu and the specials board, which had a wonderful choice. Beers were good, and the wine list was varied. All of the staff seemed happy, cheerful, and friendly, both with customers, and with each other. I have eaten at other chef and brewers (Bull at Otford, Bakers Arms Waltham Abbey), this was the best specials board, politest staff, and friendliest atmosphere.
