Heard the antelope has been sold, hopefully the new owners will do better then the old ones. Hopefully they will bring good food and ales back, because at the moment it is just a waste of a pub. sweetiecheeks - 5 Aug 2011 15:24
Small, charming little pub, however badly decorated in my opinion, lost its history, and warmly feeling. Staff behide the bar, were dressed scruffy, and not pleasent to myself and husband when we spoke to them. shocked to see they charge over £3.50 a pint after 11'o'clock. No wounder they are not that busy, and it is not as if the bear tasted that good anyway. This place needs some good TLC. I guess this place is for more of the younger generation but I can not see them being happy paying that much money just to drink in there after 11'o'clock, it is not like they are the only pub or hotel in Wareham. lisa_Ann_Sayer - 21 Feb 2011 01:53
I came across this pub while I was staying in Wareham visting my family for christmas and new year and I would have to say my expecations for this pub was very high however, that was untill I went inside. This old, Wareham pub has turned into a youth club. Im not saying there were loads of children in this pub when I went inside but the impression this place was given off it just as well as been a youth club. It also did not help that the foul lanauage the barmaid was coming out with, which may i add made me feel very uncomfortable and I was not very impressed, did give me or anyone else in that fact a welcoming feeling to the place. This old pub has no character and is a place that I would say should start over again, and then maybe I will return. sharethelove - 9 Jan 2010 15:35
I happened apon this charming little pub whilst out in wareham earlier this year soon after it had been refurbished and could not believe my luck, I had been informed it was recently refurbished and from what our friends in wareham had told us it was long overdue. Nothing felt imposing about our surroundings at all just very clean and pleasant, we quite happily spent the afternoon in there me supping a well kept pint of ale the missus drinking a nice cold wine. The barstaff where friendly, the price of food/drinks a steal, cant wait to visit our friends in wareham again only one pub we will be using !!! PubPaterson - 14 Jul 2009 04:05
I've been into this pub in the past - about a year ago - when it was a bit like going into the local youth club. However, haven't things changed?? I've got two gripes - no real ale when I visited and loud lighting. The new tenants have fallen into the trap of TV screens and sofas (to gentrify the place) which need a hoist above them to assist customers getting out of them and get to the bar. Mind you, I know a few people who'd really like the sofas because they they'll use the excuse to get them out of buying a pint!!! Anyway, the new tenants are trying to turn the pub round, but wouldn't it be better to catch the whole population rather than just a small young group who are footy mad. A more mixed pub' community generally results in a healthier pub atmosphere and less risk of fights, etc., for which the Antelope used to be notorious. Good luck to the new tenants - you'll need it, especially when dealing with that load of sharks (the pobco) who, no doubt will try to bleed your profits dry. pubquisitor - 15 Jun 2009 13:29
