Not a pub to visit for a meal experience when it is busy. I visited today for an early-bird meal with family. It was quite busy, and we were told that there was a 20 minute wait. That was fine, as we were 3rd on the list to get a table, so had a drink whilst we waited. However, half an hour passed, and new entrants were getting seated before us and the 2 before us. We questioned this, and were told that there was also a booking facility being utilised alongside normal footfall customers. That was taken onboard, and we waited further, only to see people that had waited half an hour after us being seated before us. After an hour, we left, hungry and tired of waiting. The waitresses and table cleaners appeared to be on the ball, so too did the bar staff, but the maitre de appeared to be functioning in an ad hoc manner; flustered and working to an organised chaos theory. We ended up at the nearest Macdonalds (which I usually avoid like the plague), but at least we got served with efficiency!

Recently became an Ember Inn, refurbished and food improved. Guest beers. No longer has a pool bar. It's an improvement but has taken away some variety in the area as the Castle Gardens is also an Ember Inn.

Nice pub, quietish suburban location. Clientele generally smart, middle aged, TV and pool bar for young stags. Brewers Fayre restaurant and bar meals. Usually good guest beers. Large outside area and very large car park. Currently being re-landscaped (June 05).
