| I visited the campus yesterday and thought it would be a little on the rude side not to take a saunter to the bar.The campus is quite large which meant a fair old trek.it was pouring and giant puddle jumping is now a new sport for 2012! on my eventual arrival ( I found the place as the sports fields are a giveaway) I found a typical Uni Bar but with the added attraction of an obvious devotion to real ale. The ales were from Tring,Springhead and Oakleaf,the stokers Stout being the pick. I am marking this as a club as you cannot expect the pub type atmosphere. 8/10 slerpy - 3 Dec 2009 07:50 |
| Went to the Varisty Bar last night for the launch of the 2010 Good Beer Guide. The local CAMRA group made a special presentation to the staff as the Varsity has now been in the GBG 10 years in a row. Not surprisingly the beers are always kept well here and they get some interesting ones in. Last night they had a couple of the superb Surrey Hills beers on and 5 others including the Red River from King's. The bar is a bit of a trek from the centre of Guildford. I walked it in 25 minutes but apparently the buses run into Guildford fairly frequently. Do NOT rely on the Google map location for the Varsity it's miles out (almost literally). | You must have gone in on Friday or over the weekend, as it was one of their monthly HOPS Nights (Hours of Pleasurable Sampling!!). These are held monthly and focus on a specific brewery each time. It was Ringwood this weekend, and is Archers Brewery on Friday 27th April. The rest of the month their ales change to a different brewery every time a barrel goes. | The place attracts all kinds of interesting people - from Camra members to nice looking females. You'll probably like the place if you are a fan of Ringwood Ale. Is a bit far out from main town guildford however, aslong as it does not feel much like being at school you'll probably enjoy it.
