One of the better pubs close to the east side entrance of Spitalfields market, but that’s not saying too much when considering the other local hostelries. However the Gun is a reasonable sized corner pub, interesting décor, and the same four real ales as described by Rex below. Again the Deuchars was not the best pint of IPA I’ve had but perfectly drinkable. And no problem being served, although it was quite busy with the Sunday market crowd. Gann - 1 Feb 2010 14:22
Though it is not nearly the same place, The Gun will always hold a special place in my heart. 20+ years ago my wife and I stumbled upon this pub as we wandered through Spitalfields market. The landlord was as nice as person as you could meet and we felt so completely at home. Since then, as the area has transformed, so has the pub. The crowd is a bit younger, the staff more impersonal, but the pub itself hasn't changed too much. We still had a good pint of Bombadier and it was a great place to get out of the rain. Service was fine and everyone was having a good time. NM_Ale_Drinker - 9 Jan 2010 17:50
A potentially a good pub with some nice decor, but ruined by there being wall to wall TVs and the incredibly surly staff. aaroncp - 2 Nov 2009 21:32
Four real ales on when I was in at lunchtime earlier this week – Deuchars IPA, GKIPA, Bombardier and Broadside. The Deuchars was not brilliant, but drinkable. Quite interesting décor – guns (of course) and other various militaria adorn the walls, and the carpet sports a large cannon motif, which is really unusual. The wood panelled walls are an attractive feature, and it also has the most unusual ceiling I have seen – white plastic/glass panels? There is a pool table in a separate side room. This is a decent enough pub without being anything special. I wouldn’t recommend going there just for the beer though. RexRattus - 22 Feb 2009 21:03
This place is nothing spectacular, but handy if you want a game of pool and don’t want to queue for ages at the bar. Greene King IPA, Bombardier, Deuchars and Adnams were all available on my visit along with some standard lagers. My pint of Deuchars was up to scratch. There are three plasma screens, one of which was playing a music channel and the other two were showing a muted Sky Sports News feed. There was a pretty mixed crowd and the staff seemed friendly enough, if maybe a little odd. This is the sort of place I’d go for a couple of pints after work, but as I work miles away I’ll probably never visit here again. Strongers - 17 Feb 2009 09:20
