Mmmmm..looks like usernames oldepubpro and trainman have suused out a low budget advertising campaign ! Naughty but amusing none the less. Tut..tut gentlemen.

It's not a bad pub by any means but it has no real Unique Selling Point going for it as far as I could see on our one and only visit last year. I do however agree with hitman's review, it must be the most friendly in the area when compared to some of the others ! Conclusion; just a nice friendly place. 6/10

You can't please everybody all of the time but I think this pub is the best in the area, friday nights down the crown are legendary

I like these crazy late night places... Its dead downstairs, everyone is upstairs watching the DJ (Providing they are playing) Good solid venue my friends worthy of my marvellous 10/10
3 Jun 2008 11:23
Trendy bar downstairs with live music, salsa and guest acts some nights. Great nightclub upstairs with outside smoking terrace. Best venue in Woking by a long way.

Reviews by BITE users:

Returned here after an absece of 9 months. It looks really good after the refurbishment and is under new management. The menu has changed significantly with more emphasis on plain wholesome cooking. I had a delicious lamb steak, my wife had calves liver, and our friends had sausage and mash and swordfish. All was pleasantly served without too much of a wait.
Two of us had puddings and the whole meal altogether was less than £80 before the tip.
The pub and restaurant were packed on Friday night a sure sign of a succesful hostelry.
On the whole a verygood experience and happy to return in the future.

It is true the old barn is looking a tad neglected but the menu is extensive and the food basic but well priced and it's a great place to go on a hot sunny day
18 Jun 2008 20:02
Jolly good trip down to the Bridge Barn, tucked away from main town Woking and a fine break from the stresses and strains. A very welcoming break worthy of a healthy 8/10
3 Jun 2008 11:27
it really isnt as good as it used to be staff chat amongst themselves rather than serve you and the immediate garden area is nice but the rest of the grounds are so overgrown & neglected it needs a shake up however food when it eventually was plonked down in front of us was tasty

Passing by boat called in for evening meal. Food was adequate but over priced. Beer on offer was well kept and served. Staff a little 'distant'.

AS a regular at the New Inn for more than quarter of a century, I feel qualified to have my say.
The New Inn is a 'middle' pub.
It has boozers (no surprise to me, I'm one of them), but it's not a boozers' pub. It serves superb food, but it's not a restaurant. It serves superb ales, but does not pander to real ale addicts alone.
In short, it's a pub for everyone.
This isn't faint praise. There aren't many pubs where you can relax, after a stroll along the towpath, with a pint or a meal, watch a bit of telly, enjoy a large beer garden (especially in the summer), all without listening to a barrage of swearwords, or some city boy describing his latest Porsche.
It's a pub that grows on you. Pay the New Inn a visit; bring the family, and Gran, and the dog (and if you've got one spare, can you bring us a fit barmaid...).

P.s. Ask the bar manager to do his Rick Astley impersonation.
12 Apr 2008 01:20
Yes, it's all been said really. This pub is fairly local to me and I visit fairly frequently. The real ales (always including a Ringwood) are always kept in good condition, which is why it's in the Good Beer Guide, I suppose, and the reason I continue coming. Also, in the summer, it is in an idyllic setting next to the canal. When you get to know the staff they are not as cold as they first appear, but I would agree that they do need to go on a customer relations course! Once last summer, one of the staff got quite heated and offensive when I pointed out to him that he had brought me the wrong meal! In its favour is the fact that they serve hot meals on a Sunday evening.

Reviews by BITE users:

It may look like a standard Wetherspoons but in my view it's one of the best. It's had the same manager for 12 years now (something of a rarity in any pub let alone a chain) and I believe it shows.

The pub caters for all age groups and evryone seems to get along together OK.

The beer choice is better than many 'Spoons and I don't remember ever having had a duff pint here. The food is tasty and well presented.

Woking Wetherspoons has just become the local CAMRA group's 2008 'Pub of the Year'.
22 May 2008 10:58
Standard Wetherspoons that you would find anywhere else in the country. Hogs Back Spring Ale, Burton Bridge Sovereign Gold, Elgoods Old Wagg, Wickwar Severn Bore with Directors and GK IPA and Abbot. The Elgoods was nice and my BLT was fine too.
24 Mar 2008 20:23
I stopped going here in 2006 pending the end of smoking, and JDW had been a bit misleading about it - so I didn't try again until Summer 2007, and now come in monthly (approx).

Breakfast seems to be consistently well prepared and still quite good value. Rarely eat here later in the day. Good ale range, as one would expect, and at usual good JDW prices.

Reviews by BITE users:

Good, solid pub this one. Not much to say unlike other people - its just one of the better ones in Woking area!!
8 Jun 2008 14:14
Stopped here on the way to Kingfield Stadium. A few Salisbury fans were in so it was busy at the bar but not too long a wait. Excellent beer choice with Kelham Island Pale Rider, Highgate Irish Whiskey Ale, Cairngorm Nessie's Monster Mash, Deuchards, HSB nd the ubiquitous GK IPA. Had the first three and they were all very good.

Very roomy, looks like you would be unlucky not to get a seat. No real pub character, clearly aiming at food, but can't knock it for the beer.
24 Mar 2008 20:29
As chain pubs go, I reckon the Ember Inns chain is a pretty good brand. This example of the species I found to be exceptionally good. I found it to be friendly, roomy and comfortable but without it loosing too much atmosphere.

The real star is the beer, which I found to be in excellent form. Great range, something for everyone (on my visit at least). I reckon a good indicator that a pub will take care of its beer is an extensive collection of pump clips behind the bar; this place has many.

Not a bad venue for a late night drink. Can get a little over-crowded mind you.
20 Jun 2008 19:21
What can i say about O'Neills. First of all It is way overcrowded Friday/Saturday evenings. Secondly, the place is cold and unfriendly in general. And thirdly the music covers are as boring as the night is long! 2/10 Half decent beer saves the day.
3 Jun 2008 11:17
Love this pub. Kate was a good landlady, but Elaine is just as good - she rocks. Speaking of which, love the live music down there - it does vary, but it's mostly rock covers and it's good when bands like "Rhedd" are down there cos they do something for everyone from pop to rock and do it brilliantly - really loud and passionately. "From The Ashes" are another good band down there, rock covers and modern stuff like Arctics, Foo Fighters, Muse is best by "Juice" - they always have quality bands. Food is good value and fairly quick, quite a few of the bar staff (hello Wilkey) are incredibly friendly and it's one of the only places in Woking where you can keep the chav scum troublemakers out, thanks to the lovely bouncers. Not that sport is my thing really, but it's great for sport too with big screens. live bands are usually 10.30-1am, so it doesn't interfere with the sports. I wouldn't go out in Woking anywhere else!

Reviews by BITE users:

We stopped here in the middle of a walk on a beautiful sunny day. The pub was busy but we were served at the bar quickly. Marstons Pedigree was in good condition. Ringwood Best was the Guest Ale. We ordered two snacks for £4.95 each which arrived within 10 minutes and were reasonable for the price. An enjoyable hour in a pleasant setting.

Hi there,

My name is James Hilton and I'm the current landlord of the Four Horseshoes, Chobham.
Having just arrived back from holiday on the 19th Feb 2008, I found the previous review on this website.
Obviously I was very disapointed and can only put it down to a one off.
I felt the review was justified having spoken to the relief manager who said he was very short staffed at the time and had a terrible day at the office.
Although I do feel that the review gives a rather miss judged opinion of the pub and we do strive to improve every aspect of the business on a daily basis.
I would like to offer an invitation to the previous reviewer in inviting them back and showing how good we are.
Please call 01276 857581 and ask for myself.

Visited this pub today with high expectations, partly due to the reviews on this website. The location of the pub is great and it is very homely and attractive inside. Unfortunately it is let down badly by the food. I had sausage and mash in an onion gravy and my partner had burger and chips. At £8.95 and £7.95 respecively it was reasonably expensive, but worst still it was awful. The sausage consisted of four chipolata sized sausages which looked and tasted as if they were the cheapest supermarket value brand. The mash was lumpy and the gravy was a pool of grease. Several of my partner's chips were still frozen in the middle. Needless to say, despite this being a very attractive pub with reasonably prompt service, we will not be returning and I cannot recommend it at all.

Hit and Miss. Best to check out what nights are going on when as if you pick one that doesnt suit you wont actually appreciate this can be a nice place.

Personally I prefer to come here for an early evening drink when it is quite quiet. Then you can catch up with friends without listening to hardcore dance music.

Really nice to sit outside which is surprising given that it is on the main road but is quite relaxing.

Nice to be out of the main town too.

I would agree with last comment. Since Emma has gone the service has gone downhill. Barmaids more interested in their mobile sthan serving customers. Real Ale can be hit and miss and sometimes do not have any on as they have runout. Food still good and large helpings.
30 Jul 2008 11:41
Emma was the only good thing about this dire pub now she's gone I wont bother going back

Not a place I'd return to the locals made it a bit intimidating to an outsider beer wasn't the best and the atmosphere wouldnt encourage you to hurry back!

Reviews by BITE users:

There appear to be mixed views about the RSVP, for a chap like myself I would hardly call it my regular sort of place.. generally full of the young crowd, not too vicious as I had imagined however.. Ever so strict management and bouncers, i'm sure they need to be to keep the youngsters in their zone! I quite like something about it here and it warrants a 7/10
3 Jun 2008 11:12
I came here Bank Holiday Sunday (25 May) around 10ish with my girlfriend and a few of her mates, so I was obviously not searching for H-Files! I was impressed with how lively this place was. It was packed, but then again it was free entry.

It was not my round, so I am unsure of drink prices in here, but it was a while before I got my drink and it looked like a long wait at the bar. I found the atmosphere quite relaxed and enjoyed the mixture of dance/R&B tracks playing in the background. There is a pool table as well to keep you amused if you do not wish to dance or pose on the relatively small dance floor.

I would certainly come here again if in Woking, but definitely if I become single again, as starting in the Wetherspoons and then coming here is a must for potential H-File victims.

Reviews by BITE users:

Lunched there today with family, and can see where some of the previous comments came from. Food adequate but nothing special. Service at the bar was incredibly slow, and I heard at least two diners asking where their food was, having ordered it over half an hour ago. Why do so many pubs, as here, try to muddle through with a skeleton staff?
26 May 2008 18:52
Somewhere between poor and appalling! 5 years ago the service was awful so we never went back but after refurbishment and new management we went back today for a special occasion. Wish we hadn't bothered. Starters were ok but then over an hour's wait for main courses which arrived under cooked (steak and fish) and over cooked (all veg). Poor presentation of food and serving staff who didn't appear to care less about customers. No apology forthcoming. It'll be longer than 5 years this time - probably never!!!
27 Apr 2008 23:54
This used to be a very good pub with a great atmosphere. Recently the food has been mediocre to below average. Food served is either overcooked or not cooked (For roasted peppers!)No service recovery by manager to fix problem.
