Eartham is a 'Brigadoon' village - time has passed it by. It does have a bus service but you have to book the bus the day before and even then it is subject to variables. You may wonder how a pub in such a place can survive these days but there is obviously a reasonable local trade but others would have to come by car. All the more reason therefore for the pub to stock non-alcoholic beer but it had 'run out' so I settled on a pint of ginger beer to quench my thirst after walking and before driving. The bowl of soup (which cost £5.25!) that I asked for took over half-an-hour to arrive during a not-very-busy lunchtime and had I not paid for this when buying the beer I would have got up and left. Nice welcome but sloppy service. I hope not to find myself in Brigadoon again.

I laid what I still thins was fair critiscism of this pub a couple of years ago, it has changed hands on a couple of occassions since. I have recently eaten there and I have to say that I enjoyed an excellent Sunday lunch. It has had a complete change of management and staff and is as good as the old 'George' well done James and Anita

Definitely an Anglophiles' pub - and all the better for that. All the beers are local - even the lagers.

And, even more impressively, the wine list has an excellent selection of English wines of most kinds offered at very fair prices (although, sadly, prejudice still reigns about English wine with one customer remarking, "I don't drink English wines - they're too expensive" without even checking the prices!

The only styles of English wine I didn't spot were sparkling rose and sparkling red - although still red (a rarity in English vineyards) was on offer. Sadly the house wines (the only ones available by the glass) were not English and, as I was driving, I couldn't manage a full bottle.

My one small criticism - if you are part of a party (I was one in a party of 51) then the food service is a bit slow.

Found this by accident yesterday, had the best pub lunch ever!!! Rump sandwich with goats cheese, sounds awful tasted like heaven!!! Club sandwich huge and succulent. Even the salad dressing was gorgeous!! Eton Mess was worth travelling 40 miles for! Cocktails served with a smile and the beers good too. Didn't even have a problem with the loo.
Told the landlord we would be back, and we will!!!

Thanks for all your help looking after us this year, not just our normal meetings but with our event in October and our bit of a bash just before Christmas.
Rest assured we will be back every week next year.(Sorry)

Went to this pub yesterday for lunch, and really regretted it. The tables were sticky as if they had been cleaned with a dirty cloth, the crockery was filthy, the waiting staff were scruffy, and I had to ask for the lad to wash his hands prior to serving our food as he had just cleaned up some mess in the bar.
The food was tasteless....could go on more, but you get the idea that the entire experience was one we will not be experiancing again. Good pint of beer though!

Hi would just like to say i have just recently moved to eartham and was in search of some good food pubs when i run out of time for dinner.
My husband and i read the reviews for this pub and chose to go and try for ourselves. The pub is extremy welcoming with the log fire burning and smiles from locals when we arrived. i thought the menu choice was really good the kids couldn't decide what they wanted (always a good sign!) When the food came out it was delicious a real home cooked mealand looks like a good choice of fresh ingredients.talking to the staff they actually try and source most the ingredients locally, needless to say i have been back again and again 2 times last week. hope you find my comments usefull.

We visited last Friday lunchtime for a meal with family and were very disappointed. The food was average to poor: overcooked and greasy chips and a beef and ale pie with grey scraps of meat in an unthickened gravy were among the offerings brought to our table after a wait of 40 minutes.
The service was even worse. Although we had made a reservation,we were seated in the bar which was a jumble of lifted carpets and disarranged furniture. We were told that the dining room was being decorated and was "fumey": however no decorators put in an appearance!
After a wait we fetched some very grubby and tatty menus from the bar, and after another wait, went to the bar to place our order. The young woman in the bar did eventually arrive at our table, but she was clearly preoccupied with dealing with the fire in the lounge, and she made very little contribution to the service. The usual civillities eg was there anything we needed? were we enjoying our meal? were missing, we even had to fetch our own condiments!
We have had a pleasant meal at this pub in the past and can only conclude that the new management have a very steep learning curve ahead of them!

What side of bed did 'really angry' get out of? We have used this pub frequently over the years and have always enjoyed it. The staff are friendly and the food excellent and freshly cooked to order. This may entail a bit of a wait but the 'ping' of a microwave isn't what this place is about. Thank goodness for some individuality - not another corporate chain or theme pub!

Rediscovered The George last Sunday for lunch. With my wife and two children in tow, we were pleasantly surprised to learn that it is now under new management. After being welcomed in to the pub by the friendly bar staff, the roaring fire in the bar area captured my little one's attention, which kept them quiet for five minutes! Me and the wife both had roast dinners, very pleased with the outcome, and was happy to finally find a traditional pub which serves kids meals without sacrificing quality. Have booked a table for next week, and will thoroughly recommend The George to friends and family.

I have eaten at The George Inn on several occasions over the last 6 months and have found it very enjoyable. The Food is clearly fresh and a vast improvement on the offering made by the previous managment. The staff are friendly and service has always been prompt. Village pubs such as this one are a rarity. Its a shame as comments such as the one made by Reallyangry can be so damaging to the trade and in my opinion are completely unfounded. Keep up the good work The George Inn.

This pub has gone down to the bottom of the pits, the staff are a total waste of time, it advertises food it cannot deliver, the staff are bored and disinterested, the place is untidy, (not dirty) it is really in need of some serious management.
The best thing the owner can do is off load it. It is turning business away and the locals for whom he obviously doesn,t give a shit are not going to have a pub.
What a total shame if only we could find someone who was interested in it it could make a profit.
Brian sell it you,ve really ruined it, or at least get someone in who is interested in running it!

Very Friendly Welcoming Pub.
Getting better again since new ownership/management.
Proper Beers served, and locally grown produce used for meals.
Meeting place for Bognor Regis Motor Club - Thursdays from about 8.30pm.

Oh dear.. this used to be such a great find in the midst of the country. This pub used to be famed for its food but no more. It was virtually empty when we called in for lunch and a look at the menu told us why. The beers and wines are great but apart from a burger the food was way over the top pricewise for midday lunch.. The garden could be nice but had dog mess round the tables on the lawn. If they get a grip with the food side of the business they may survive the recession.

Used to be really good, but on last visit - no atmosphere, cold (broken boiler!!), poor service (empty pub but still had to wait almost 40 minutes for over priced food) and when it came it was of very disappointing quality. Certainly won't be going back in a hurry - that's if it's still trading
