The Hen and Chicken, Upper Froyle

Tried this pub today after getting a voucher form the carvery. I was pleasantly surprised. The pub is large and near the A31, but the garden is quiet and secluded. The carvery was great value (the same price as a Toby), but the quality was superior and the service was cheerful. Will definitely go back.

The Victoria and Albert, Netherhampton

Called on a Sunday evening in June. Sat in the quiet garden until it got a bit chilly, then retired inside to sit by the fire! The landlady told us she was reluctant to put it out as people kept having to use it to dry out! Food was tasty and hot, and portions reasonable size. Beer was good. We were the only people in for a while, and the landlady sat and chatted. We were made to feel very welcome, and ,no, we didn't take any books home!

The Bat and Ball Inn, Breamore

Called in for lunch, as Dad remembers staying here to fish the Avon some 60 years ago.
Was fairly busy, but both barmaids/waitress were friendly and polite. Food was very good, s&k pie was lovely and BBQ ribs delicious. Prices were reasonable. There is a senior citizens menu at a reduced price every weekday lunchtime. Would go back if in the area.
