This pub is in a great location, and maybe that's why the food is a little pricey but it was good quality stuff. Good selection of ales, friendly staff. Probably more of an eating place that a drinking pub but the tap side looked inviting enough. Would go back.

Pretty much full of people eating when i came in...food looked and smelt good, price was okay as well.
Good choice of ales on tap, 7 i think in total. Had 2 very good pints, one of them was a local Farmer's Ale.
Sat in the "locals" room and had a chat with a very pleasant old guy about beer, london and life ibn general.
All in all a very good visit, nothing bad to say and definetly the best pub i visited in Maldon...the Blue Boar would of won but the electricity was out!

Been in and out of here over the years - last night had 7 ales on incl. two local Farmers Ales and guest from Dark Star called Hopback - this was delicious. Always friendly enough in here but as noted previous it can get rammed in summer. I have never ventured in front bar and have been told the locals can get anal if 'strangers' go in there without an invite - knobbers!

Went into this pub last Saturday into the locals front bar. Barman too busy having his own drink and talking to a local to serve me. Another unemployed bar maid made eye contact twice but didn't come over and serve and yet another barmaid had her back to the bar doing nothing. Barman then served another local who came in after me. Not great customer service so I walked out.

This is a very nice pub, clean and efficient and good beer. However, avoid like the plague on sunny week-ends... gets rammed to the rafters with sweaty fractious grockles. However, shouldn't tell you this really, there is a little local's bar to the right of the front entrance where you'll have a better chance of getting served and where you'll meet some "real" Maldonians (if that's the word). They'll hate me for telling you that.

Beer is well kept, but sometimes difficult to get served when very busy. The smell of vinegar on the chips on meals served in the bar can put you off your pint though.

Very good selection of ale which was well kept. There were six real ales on the menu, including two from Farmers both of which were spot on.Great views over the tidal river and although we did not eat here, the food did look good. There was a lot of fish on the menu,as might be expected from the location.Pub busy but very quick bar service.Very difficult to find a place to park in this popular spot.

Lovely riverside pub in a very scenic spot. I imagine it can get horrendously busy at times with a large outdoor dining area; I felt more at home in the small bar on the landward side. good range of real ales.

What has happened to the world! This used to be the number 1 sailors pub in Maldon. Twas full of wizened Hemmingway types who would wax lyrically for hours about how they once had to gnaw their own legs off to escape from killer spider fish or fashion a raft out of cabin boys. No longer. Now it's theme sailors pub. Still quite nice like, and also has a fit barmaid - although she did look a bit stroppy when I ordered my first drink - took a bit of warming up before she started smiling.

beer was warm and as from our previous visit the staff were still not interested and acted like robots a foody place in a nice setting shame about the staff

Nice two bar waterfront pub.The Maldon Gold was perfect.Three other real ales on.Nice seating area overlooking the river.

From the outside the QH looks as though it should be posher than the Jolly Sailor but isn't. This appears to be the locals favourite and had a band playing old hits from Elvis to Sex Pistols!! Besides the London Pride and Greene King that appear throughout town they also served from local Burntwood ale.
