Went here for dinner and was extremely pleasantly surprised. Yes, it's more geared towards dining than drinking, but the Adnams I drank was well-kept and tasted great, and there is a good and keenly priced selection of wines too. Would be happy to come in for a few drinks in the evening if I ever found myself back in the Lavenham area. The food is out of this world, by the way!

Not sure why everyone's obsessing quite so much about the food aspect. Yes it is 'restauranty' with a deserved reputation for good food, but they have also been more than happy to serve us just with drinks on the numerous times that we've been there. They have a small bar area which housed several drinkers the last time we visited just last week. And the well-kept Adnams beer is a welcome change in GK country. Not that you'd go there for its authentic pub atmosphere, but if you're after a decent pint and no food, they certainly seem more than welcoming to us!

Sorry. I haven't rated. I just wanted to make the comment about the possible use of fake accounts, and support bzylzy's view that this place is more restaurant than pub. Do they actually serve beer? I'm making a trip to Lavenham on boxing day, and I'm looking for pubs. I won't be coming to this place because the owners are showing me pictures of food rather than talking about which beers they sell. I agree that this place is probably better off on a good food site than a pub site.

Even celebrity chefs eat here, it's that good! Nigel Ramsbottom trained under some of the well known chefs and his expertise makes the menu a delight. Carol Ramsbottom mixes charm and efficiency with effortless amiability. The bar crackles with the locals and good humour and the experience leaves you with the itch to go back

question!! is this a pub or a licenced restaurant? as all the comments concern food, surely this "pub" should be in the good food guide and not on b.i.t.e site. i go to the pub to have beer and food not food and a beer, no one seems to have a word to say about any beer!!!!or guest ales they might have on

This place is a gem and well worth a visit while in Suffolk. The food is excellent, superbly prepared and presented. Nigel (chef) is very particular about the ingredients and everything is fresh. There are two quiet restaurant areas and a larger room for groups. Food is also served in the bar area and this is where locals may often eat while relaxing with friends and having a social drink.
Carol and Nigel are very welcoming hosts and will do all they can to make your visit enjoyable. They welcome children too and go to great lengths to accomodate and include my youngest son who has severe special needs.
Give it a try - I'm sure you won't be disappointed!

We have visietd the Swan several times in the last year and have found it consistently excellent. In truth I could just dine on the starters (eg crayfish cocktail, roast red pepper with goats cheese or my particular favourite ... crispy duck salad with hoi sin sauce .. all with home made rolls) but the fish, poultry and meat mains all maintain the same standard. Fresh local ingredients dominate in Nigel's thinking. Front of hpouse, Carol does agreat job in providing friendly and nicely paced service; she has developed a great team of local youngsters to help her. The Swan is well worth a drive to try it out

This pub/restaurant is worth a detour. A wide choice of fresh seasonal food expertly cooked and very well presented. Good wines (and beer) including by the glass.7 or 8 starters and at least 3 or 4 fish dishes, two meats and game in season, a choice of desserts and excellent English cheese and coffee to follow. Prices are very competitive given the quality.A place for special occasions or an economical lunch for less than a tener! What a find.

A real find! I don`t know if the owners like the term "Gastropub" but this is certainly one. Good Adnam`s beer and a reasonably priced wine list. But it is the food that is the winner. From a blackboard you can choose things like "Red Peppers with Pesto and Goat`s Cheese", "Baked Smoked Haddock with Buttered Spinach and soft Poached Egg" and, my favourite, "Meatballs in a chunky Tomato Sauce". A lovely atmosphere, good service and a pub chef who sees life beyond scampi and chips. A must-visit!

Excellent Food! The chef there has worked at some great places & it shows. He was heaf chef at the Walnut Tree Inn, Abergavenny & worked with Franco there. Great menu, he clearly uses only seasonal produce. I had the Woodcock & my husband had the Venison Casserole with mash potatoes (it was January!) There are lots of favourite there as well, the people on the next table had Haddock & chips!!! There seem to be a local drinking trade as well, which was nice to see - good atmsophere.
