The Flamin' Galah, Altrincham

This has since closed and reopened under a new name that escapes me. Something like sofa or room?? Looks less than enticing anyway.

The Brew House, Altrincham

Now known as the Brewhouse (same ownership) as it has expanded it's range beyond just Belgian beers to encompass a great selection of beers from around the globe. Well worth a visit.

29 Dec 2011 18:54

The Griffin, Bowdon

went in on christmas eve. trade was brisk. i did not mind waiting at the bar as it was evidently very busy but the staff were at times clearly serving friends first.

of the five hand pumps, the only one available was london pride which was dull/uninspiring.

the pub ran out of tonic water, vodka and also pint glasses. although conspiracy theorists may think the last one may have been less than accidental as the plastic pots that replaced them were small and the servings in them fell well short of a pint.

will revise my previous 7 rating to a 5.

The Flamin' Galah, Altrincham

Previously known as Uluru. Australian themed bar with occassional music. Some decent bottled Australian beers available (Little Creatures, Coopers Sparkling etc.). Attracts quite a young crowd. Shows sports.

The Shakespeare Inn, Kendal

Got served a pint in here where 1/3 was from the overflow tray under the tap. Whilst I wasn't sure about this practice, I didn't say anything but the barstaff was very defensive about it.

Took the pint back to my seat and it tasted awful. The barstaff member was taken aback, eventually after getting another customer to taste it, my pint was swapped.

Generally a decentish pub otherwise that is one large room. 4 real ales on from national breweries.

Moyles, Hebden Bridge

Should be 'Moyles'

13 Jul 2009 12:52

The Fox and Goose, Hebden Bridge

Comfortable pub that has decent stock of bottles and around 4/5 handpump options. Smelt a little bit of dogs but there were 4 in when we arrived. Beer garden is tucked up on the side of the hill and is a great feature. Had one bad pint of porter which was changed and they removed the barrel.

13 Jul 2009 12:51

Three Pigeons, Halifax

Great pub in an art deco style and well kept beers. Small patio seating area at the front of the pub.

13 Jul 2009 12:48

Coopers, Liverpool

Crap really.

1 Jul 2009 15:00

Ye Cracke, Liverpool

Great real ale, cosy atmosphere, will go again.

1 Jul 2009 14:59

The Philharmonic, Liverpool

Very touristy and got extremely busy on a Saturday night, approx 30 mins to get served. Real ale is decent but you feel like you are going more for the building than anything else, which is okay but won't be going out of my way for a second visit.

1 Jul 2009 14:59

Belgian Bar, Altrincham

Now introducing cask beers from Dunham Massey and looking to also add others from nearby microbreweries, according to latest 'Opening Times'.

1 Jul 2009 14:11

Regal Moon, Rochdale

Obvious Wetherspoons from outside, old cinema converted to large pub. Bar staff were very friendly and helpful. 8 real ales available. Building has art deco interior. Seemed a popular choice for locals, even on a weekday.

1 Jul 2009 14:06

The Continental Pub, Preston

Had a nice walk through a park to get to this well hidden pub. It has just been renovated and you can tell this from the interior. Appeared to have a good selection of cask beers but when ordering they kept on going off. This was repeated three times. There didn't appear to be a great deal of people ordering ale either. Will put it down to teething problems. Food menu looked good but unfortunately just missed the lunch cut off of 14:30. Large beer garden and conservatory. Will come again if in the area.

1 Jul 2009 14:03

The Baum, Rochdale

Good pub, lovely interior. Had 3 cask ales on and extensive bottle selection, mainly Belgian. Food menu was good and portions generous. Also handy for Co Op Pioneer Museum as mentioned previously.

1 Jul 2009 14:01

The Jam Street Cafe, Whalley Range

cafe by day, bar by night. does good food and has one cask ale, from dunham massey brewery.

25 Jan 2009 17:56

The Hillary Step, Whalley Range

Great selection of beers. 4 handpumps on which were well kept. Also had the great but not often seen Moravka unpasteurised lager. Had an interesting nibbles menu with different cheeses/meats/nuts/olives... chilled ambience with people reading the Observer and doing the crossword.

18 Jan 2009 20:38

The Bricklayers, Altrincham

Boddies_drinker is correct. Now ran by Orange Tree. Beer range more or less the same. Has had slight redecoration including new room open to the top right of the pub (for darts) which works well.

18 Jan 2009 11:48

The Green Windmill, Stretford

Now closed.

18 Jan 2009 11:43

The Marble Beer House, Chorlton cum Hardy

Well worth a visit if you are in the area. All the normal Marble range plus around 2 guests ales. Small but cosy.

7 Jan 2009 08:12

The Axe and Cleaver, Dunham Massey

Does lot of food trade. Had Adnams Broadside available on my visit. Great country setting, large gardens to front and rear.

31 Dec 2008 14:11

Vale Cottage, Gorton

Well hidden real ale pub. Tends to attract older crowd. Very quiet.

31 Dec 2008 12:24

Kings Head Hotel, Droylsden

Decent Holts pub with large screen for sports and smoking area.

31 Dec 2008 12:23

The Jolly Angler, Manchester

Can only echo previous comments. Well tucked away pub near Piccadilly with friendly locals and Hydes bitter. Great United photos on the wall.

31 Dec 2008 11:06

The Railway, Sale

Landlord was friendly and enthused about real ale (selection of CAMRA magazines were available to read). Robinsons house offering Unicorn and the seasonal Robinsons ale. Also had bottled Old Tom. Probably one of the better pubs in Sale, compared to the majority of bars that change names from year to year.

31 Dec 2008 11:04

The Pump Room, Halifax

Went in whilst waiting for the train (around 3/4 mins walk) was surprised by the amount of changing ales and size of the pub. Was going to head for the 3 Pigeons but wasn't open yet (before 3pm in the afternoon). Instead enjoyed a pint of White Christmas from the Saltaire Brewery.

26 Dec 2008 20:40

Railway Inn, Broadheath

Pub has struggled for a while. Holts bitter was very well kept on my visit. Decor was dated and chairs worn/torn. Bar area was very nice and can see why it merits it's place in CAMRA's historic interiors list.

26 Dec 2008 20:38

Odder, Manchester

Decent mix of bar feel during the day and club upstairs during the night. Also good cask ales from Marble Brewery that are reasonable as well as interesting bottled selection.

14 Nov 2008 20:03

The Garrett (previously The Old Garrett), Manchester

Has one real ale on. Has pool table and frequent live music.

14 Nov 2008 19:59

The Bulls Head, Manchester

Better option for a pre-train drink than the poor options in the station. A few changing real ales.

14 Nov 2008 19:57

Big Hands, Manchester

Handy for gigs at the Academy. Decent bottled beer selection.

14 Nov 2008 19:55

Jackson's Boat, Sale

Very nice in summer. Appears to be improving with new landlords and a commitment to real ale. Had Timothy Taylors Landlord.

14 Nov 2008 19:46

The Brook, Sale

Not bad pub next to tram. Has JW Lees on draught. Small but cosy and you can normally get a seat.

14 Nov 2008 19:45

The Temple, Manchester

Very small, you'll be lucky to get a seat at busy times. Crowd is generally young & music orientated. Decent range of bottled beers, if you can get to the bar!

14 Nov 2008 19:27

The Corner Pin, York

Had Jennings Cumberland & Hobgoblin on during my visit. Food was reasonable in price and generously sized. Quite a large pub, with a conservatory type area to the side, with a beer garden also.

14 Nov 2008 19:23

The Bank, Manchester

Improving city centre pub with decent real ale selection and food.

3 Nov 2008 20:12

The Star Inn, Glossop

Close to train station, you can practically here the trains pulling in so you know how long you have to finish your drink. Good range of changing ales and also home to the local beer festival, as posted earlier.

2 Nov 2008 21:04

Fox & Hounds, Flixton

Good pub that has about 3 real ales on that change from time to time. Does a lot of food trade. Also has flat screens for sports. Beer garden to side that has heaters.

2 Nov 2008 21:00

The Bodega, Newcastle

Good beer, nice interior. Also shows sports on numerous large screens.

2 Nov 2008 20:05

Crown Posada, Newcastle

Excellent narrow pub with good beer range. Excellent interior. Nice crowd in there too.

2 Nov 2008 20:05

The Cooperage, Newcastle

Nice atmosphere, low roof. Had a good balance of old fashioned boozer and also DJ playing decent music. Also appeared to have a club above linked to the pub. Late license. Real ale was available, served in dimpled pots!

2 Nov 2008 20:03

The Trafalgar Hotel, Bury

Nice pub with one real ale, Jennings. Pool table and shows sports. Known to put on free food when football is on.

2 Nov 2008 20:00

The Rose and Crown, Bury

Nice pub that has been there for some years judging by pictures on the wall. Quite hidden away so the crowd are locals mainly and those who sniff out a good pint. Ales always changing.

2 Nov 2008 19:59

The Knowsley, Bury

Appears to be under renovation and judging by the signs, they are going for a gastro-pub style, moving away from the afternoon karaoke then presumably.

2 Nov 2008 19:57

Barracuda Bar, Altrincham

Appears to be close to reopening as 'The Vineyard'.

2 Nov 2008 19:50

The Station Tavern, Grosmont

Stayed here, family ran pub. Very nice people and would go again. Next to steam train station.

2 Nov 2008 19:50

The Jolly Sailors Inn, Whitby

Two roomed pub that had scaffolding around it on our visit. Had quiz night on the Friday. Sam Smiths so you know what you are getting.

2 Nov 2008 19:46

The Goathland Hotel, Whitby

Decent enough pub but I get the impression they are fed up sometimes with the Heartbeat connection. Had Cameron's Strong Arm and Blacksheep available.

2 Nov 2008 19:43

The Endeavour, Whitby

Decent pub with good beer. Had live band on during the night, which was folk/sea shanty orientated!

2 Nov 2008 19:42

The Vat and Fiddle, Nottingham

Close proximity to train station, excellent array of beers, something like 10 pumps on? Lots of Castle Rock ales, real cider, Bitburger lager on draft. Real drinkers pub.

2 Nov 2008 19:41

Duke of York, Whitby

Enjoyed this place, nice view on to the river heading into the sea. Large area that would be suitable for dining. Around 4 handpumps on offering Spitfire & Speckled Hen amongst others.

2 Nov 2008 19:39

The Black Horse Vaults, Whitby

Very nice pub on cobbled street. Small inside, good range of beer and food. Also does B&B.

2 Nov 2008 19:38

Fellows Morton & Clayton Ltd, Nottingham

Close to train station. Contains it's own brewery on site, viewable from the pub (a window near the toilets). Own beer is good but was surprised they only had one on, the rest being made up by more common choices (Landlord, Black Sheep etc). Lots of plasma screens showing sports.

2 Nov 2008 19:36

Canal House, Nottingham

Quiet on my visit. Had 4/5 handpumps on, mainly offering Castle Rock ales. The bridge over the canal is a great feature and worth visiting for that alone. Food was reasonably priced and arrived very quickly.

2 Nov 2008 19:34

The Ship Inn, Sheffield

Landlord was surly as soon as we took more than a slight moment to choose our drink, asking if we were 'tickers'. He has apparently seen a down turn in trade since Hardy and Hansons have been took over by Greene King and has only one 'real ale' available any more. Created a bad atmosphere. Otherwise quite a nice looking pub, ale was OK. Wouldn't rush back, preferred Kelham Island Tavern & Fat Cat.

23 Sep 2008 13:02

The Wellington, Birmingham

Really enjoyed my visit. Pub was quiet (Sunday afternoon), great selection of ales which are ordered by the number, displayed on a plasma TV. Bar staff were very friendly and even gave us a number of the local CAMRA magazines hot off the press. Also they permit you to bring in your own food and will give cutlery etc out.

23 Sep 2008 12:58

The Fat Cat, Sheffield

Fantastic range of beers. Layout a bit more quirky than the nearby Fat Cat. Worth going to if in Sheffield. Short walk from Shalesmoor tram.

23 Sep 2008 12:51

The Kelham Island Tavern, Sheffield

I went on a Monday afternoon, found it to be very welcoming and relaxing pub quite hidden away. Ale and cider selection was superb. Heavenly stuff. Worth seeking out when in Sheffield. Short walk to the Fat Cat from here.

23 Sep 2008 12:50

The Marble Arch, Manchester

Great range of beers. Attracts 'tickers', local PO workers, office types, students. Unrivalled marbled interior, good food. What more could you want?

22 Sep 2008 18:55

The Crown and Kettle, Ancoats

Would echo comments from JohnBonser. One of the best pubs in M/cr.

22 Sep 2008 18:51

Bar Fringe, Manchester

Fantastic place, friendly bar staff and locals. Great ales and reasonably priced for the (outskirts of) city centre.

22 Sep 2008 18:49

The Crescent, Salford

Historic pub. Good beers, nice interior.

22 Sep 2008 18:47

The New Oxford, Salford

Great new pub. Unrivalled choice of beer for miles.
Only downside is the slight 'new' feel of the place, although that may be to other's tastes!

22 Sep 2008 18:46

The Griffin, Bowdon

Is a very clean pub that does a lot of food and appears family friendly. Nice outdoor area. Beer is good and had 3 handpumps available on my visit.

22 Sep 2008 18:45

The Orange Tree, Altrincham

Agree about barbecues, they are a good addition and the decking area to the rear is a bonus. Has Deuchars IPA, Copper Dragon Pippin and one guest.

22 Sep 2008 18:43

The Kings Arms, Salford

Beer choice is good, always changing. Very big old pub. Supports local music also (gigs upstairs).

22 Sep 2008 18:42

The Old Market Tavern, Altrincham

Fantastic choice of ales, all well kept in my experience. Reasonably priced. Gets busy for quizzes and live (normally rock) music. Is frequented by bikers.

22 Sep 2008 18:39

The Malt Shovells, Altrincham

Cheapest beer in town, staff are friendly as are locals. Traditional pub, more or less a typical Sam Smiths house.

22 Sep 2008 18:38

The Faulkners Arms, Altrincham

Scruffy pub with odd locals.

22 Sep 2008 18:35

Stamford Arms, Bowdon

Very nice quiet setting opposite local church. Pub does good trade on food although I have never tried it. Beer seems to be changeable at best. They'll frequently have 5/6 casks beers advertised but they appear to be off a lot of the time and even when they are on, they can be hit and miss. Strange when they seem to give so much bar space to them. Has large flat screen TVs, good for sports (can get busy).

22 Sep 2008 18:34

The Boot & Shoe, Nantwich

Nice interior, low ceilings, split into various small rooms. Good beer garden with bar and external televisions. Food was decent and huge portions. Had 4 good cask ales on but on the expensive side at 2.70 a pint.

19 Sep 2008 13:53

The Clock Face, Prescot

Decor looked a bit dated but pub was pleasant enough. Thwaites Bitter and Lancaster Bomber available permanently.

19 Sep 2008 13:42

The Angel, Manchester

Went for meal on a Thurs night, service was good and food was generous and reasonably priced. 3 cask ales available, with chalk board showing what they had coming up also.
Karmiliet Trippel also available on draught.
Good mix of drinkers and people in for food.
Very close to Marble Arch Pub, which is probably the best pub in town.
Good stuff and will go again.

19 Sep 2008 13:40

The Stork Hotel, Birkenhead

Very impressive pub, visited this week. Old style central bar, etched windows, mosaic floor, happy hour 4-7 weekdays on cask ales 1.60. Offered John Willie's, Nero, Deuchars IPA and Theakston's Paradise on my visit. Also had food available, I had a bowl of 'Scouse' (stew) that was served from the bar for 1.50. Short walk from Hamilton Square station.
