The Dartmouth Arms, Forest Hill

Good pub, staff are usually friendly and the beers alright.

Food is unbelievably expensive. Don't know whether it is worth the money as have never parted with the cash to pay, too stingy.

The Roundhill Tavern, Brighton

Excellent pub with a really funny mix of students, locals of varying ages and incredibly cool people like me.

Only joking, love this pub though, good prices, Harveys is excellent, food on a Sunday is first class and staff are always friendly.

The Oast House, London Bridge Station

Would second those comments about quick pint. For some reason I was sitting in here for about three quarters of an hour watching the turnover and it is truly astonishing, the average stay must be about three minutes, I sat next to about fifteen different people.
Efficient service, no atmosphere, no toilet.

The Question, Forest Hill

Is it just me or does the ceiling in the main bar look like its going to collapse?

I find them alight here, though have seen a couple of nasty fights, but then thats par for the course pretty much everywhere these days (including all the snobby places in East Dulwich).

The Bird in Hand, Forest Hill

Incredibly cheap and always busy, be careful once your in though, not particularly safe.

The Walpole Arms, New Cross

Polish night was scary, I didnt realise people still danced like that and the music was worse than anything I've ever heard. Ever.

However, cant fault the people, they were lovely and the atmosphere was cool, they just need to raise the bar up about a foot so it's the right height, I cant be dealing with these low bars.

Royal Albert, New Cross

Still preferred the Paradise bar because of the whole danger thrill, this place is the same as every gastro pub everywhere else.

However as this is New Cross and there arent anymore gastro pubs near here it gets thumbs up from me.

Plus it's not (that) expensive, though I wouldnt fancy doing an all day session in here.

Also no tellys, I want football.

The New Cross Inn / Bar Alchemy, New Cross

This place looks like it's cashing in on the whole I heart New X thing.

About time someone in New Cross did, hopefully it'll put the Tavern out of business.

The Hobgoblin, New Cross

Now they've installed a woodwork factory in the back conservatory coupled with the flowershop round the side, this pub really is on the way to becoming a complete carpentry/botany/inebriation experience.

Old woman still there, though not everytime I go in there anymore.

Staff great, student discount great, food not great, beer unbelievably bad, garden now has massive metal tent in it that looks like something the owner bought on impulse.

26 Feb 2007 22:29

The Greenwich Union, Greenwich

The food here is so good that I want to kick them in the faces for making it so expensive.

It's like a restaurant that wants to be a pub this place.

Plus the barstaff always seem to be squabbling like children, literally everytime I come here.

Still great food and beer so cant complain.

26 Feb 2007 22:22

The Bridge Bar, London Bridge Station

Rubbish pub, why do I need to complete a computer game like puzzle in order to use the pisser?

Do yourself a favour and buy beer from the Threshers and drink on the platform.

26 Feb 2007 22:08

Belushi's, Borough

If you like Australians, blaringly loud music and Karaoke you will flipping love this pub. Likewise if you like psychopathic South London locals looking for a fight, this is the place to be.

If you want a quiet pint and a chat do not come to this pub.

The Goldsmiths Tavern, New Cross

The Door people are a nightmare, this place was so much better before. Enjoyed being verbally assaulted by one of the MCs last time for not wanting to go and dance to his music (I cant help it, I just dont like 'Little bit of luck' By DJ Luck and MC Neat).

That being said, its open late and you dont have to pay to get in apart from on Friday and Saturday so if you can get up for work the next day you're alright. The beer is alright and its less than 3 a pint so in my eyes they're heros. They should also definitely bring back the Thursday night jungle, that was amazing and by far the best jungle night I ever went to in South London in a pub.

26 Jan 2006 21:53

The Great Eastern, Brighton

This pub is good on a Thursday afternoon but its too damn crowded in the evenings and the ceilings a bit low for my liking.

26 Jan 2006 21:44

Stanmer Park, Brighton

I am terrified of this pub. I have seen many people gte beaten up here.

Other than that its great, cheap booze and reasonably friendly staff.

26 Jan 2006 21:42

The Cricketers, Brighton

Now that the Millwall fans have rearranged the decor this place has got even better!

Wouldn't drink here if it was free.

23 Jan 2006 22:55

The Hobgoblin, Brighton

The rockers in this place smell and make me feel sad. It's like meeting all the people from school who didnt amount to much in one place.

23 Jan 2006 22:53

The Bat and Ball, Brighton

Alternatively nip to the somerfield down the road and pick up a bottle of white lightning (3 litres for the price of two most of the time) and go and sit in the level. Infinitely preferable to this pub!

23 Jan 2006 22:52

Skehans, New Cross

I Heart this pub, and its got a Thai restaurant out the back that sells drinks for the same price as in the pub except they bring them to your table and you have to buy some (extremely nice) food as well.

Best food in New Cross in a pub by a mile.

11 Jan 2006 22:01

The North Pole, Greenwich

Like sitting outside in the summer but as mentioned below this place is full of knob end rich people with bad taste who talk VERY LOUDLY and thus the atmosphere suffers sometimes.

Dont ever come here for a drinking session, you will have to remortgage your house.

8 Jan 2006 15:39

The White Hart, New Cross

Well, I can say that the White Hart is the finest example of a pub, and while I cant argue with the fact that a lot of the customers are mental alkys, there is something about the White Hart that I quite like.

i think it might be the fact that if you drink pints then its the cheapest place in New Cross. Otherwise its not good.

the karaoke nights are the funniest, the compere just wont give up the mic, so if you fancy watching an overweight middle aged guy with a shite voice singing Robbie Williams songs all night then its the place to be!

incredibly devoid of students given the prices, but this is probably because its full of nutters.

Avoid anytime when Millwall are playing, it gets progressively more terrifying.

8 Jan 2006 15:06

The Walpole Arms, New Cross

Thank god they sorted out the kids situation, I swear I've seen ten year olds staggering out of the Walpole in the past.

Thai food is fanastic, booze is reasonably priced and the staff usually serve with a smile.

One small complaint was how loud the live music was, I couldnt hear anything my mate was saying while the guy on stage was droning on for a good twenty minutes.

Other than that much improved, a decent New Cross pub.

8 Jan 2006 15:00

The Marquis of Granby, New Cross

Pub is alright but some of the locals are just to old, drunk and depressing to bear sometimes.

Great for the football thanks to the atmosphere, and as long as you smile at them the bar staff usually serve you.

Fairly cheap for New Cross as well, much better than the Tavern and Bar Alchemy or whatever the hell its called now.

8 Jan 2006 14:49

The Hobgoblin, New Cross

I like this pub because its near my house and in the summer the garden is great. However in the winter there isnt much to recommend it as the woman who runs it sits to the right of the bar dominating the place with her weird old friends and generally ruining the atmosphere.

The beer is awful, but the service is friendly so you take your pick, good student discount (20%).

8 Jan 2006 14:47

The New Cross Inn / Bar Alchemy, New Cross

This place is alright for the footy or to play pool during the week but god forbid you go there on a Friday night as it is full of people on their way to The Venue.

Barmaids are incredibly miserable, but hopefully they have new ones as they weren't there last time I went.

Chinese food is alright but the Thai food down the road at the Walpole Arms is much better.

8 Jan 2006 14:44

The Amersham Arms, New Cross

Love this pub.

The comedy nights on Mondays are good, you get some funny people there.

8 Jan 2006 14:37

The Rosemary Branch, New Cross

this pub is truly bizarre, its never had anyone in it for years.

Still the same selection of bemused looking locals, but now they're sitting in the glow of flashing disco lights and banging house music rather than in the rat like atmosphere that existed there before.

I enjoy sitting outside and occasionally hurling abuse at gangs of wandering Goldsmiths students with long hair, it beats getting a job hands down.

8 Jan 2006 14:36

The Market Porter, Borough

Its good if you work nights because it opens at 6 AM, otherwise I cannot think of many other reasons to go to this pub, its alright but nothing special.

1 Jan 2006 22:35

The Castle, Camberwell

Great pub, friendly staff, tasty food (which isnt as ridiculously over priced as that from a number of other South London 'gastro-pubs') and reasonable beer. Though they could do with a couple more draft beers I guess if I was going to be pernickety.

They also put up with me when I was slightly the worse for wear on my birthday and I fell on the floor, thanks guys.

1 Jan 2006 22:32

The Greenwich Union, Greenwich

I love this pub, by far the best in Greenwich.

Home brew is excellent, its dog and children friendly so there's always a bizarre atmosphere and the food vacilates between good and excellent.

I like the way its tucked away and the garden is great in the summer. Oh and the staff are nice as well which is a novelty for the rest of South London where barstaffs general attitude is to visually assault you before even considering serving you an overpriced pint.

Go to this pub.

1 Jan 2006 22:25

Via Fossa, Canary Wharf

This pub has the most bizarre decor on the wharf, its like the whole place has been designed by Peter Stringfellow when he was in his zebra skin phase.

Other than that, standard factory drinking in the wharf, prices that would make your grandparents cry.

1 Jan 2006 22:19

Henry Addington, Canary Wharf

Whats going on with the smell in this place? Its like drinking in a place thats perfumed with the fragrance from the bins round the back.

Alright if you want afterwork beers, otherwise, avoid.

1 Jan 2006 22:17

The Cat And Canary, Canary Wharf

Better than the Henry Addington, there's marginly less chance you'll get punched in the face.

However still not great, the beer is just too damned expensive.

1 Jan 2006 22:13

Bar 38, Canary Wharf

Absolutely atrocious pub, was like walking into a packed shite club at about half three in the morning (it was also priced the same) except it was six o clock in the evening.

Avoid.

1 Jan 2006 22:11

The Bright Helm, Brighton

Its kind of like drinking in a box factory, being served by robots who obviously dont get paid anywhere near enough to give a toss about the state of the place and surrounded by people who look like they have spent the best part of their lives working in a box factory.

Depressing and rubbish, avoid.

1 Jan 2006 17:26

The Hare & Hounds, Brighton

If this pub was a football team it would be Sunderland, full of good intentions but unfortunately doomed to languish in the lower reaches of the pub premiership for at least the next ten years.

Really, it needs to be completely done out but it just gets bought by different people who make pointless alterations like either adding or removing one of the pool tables outside (hmm, sitting outside on a main road crossroads with a firestation next door? Now thats what I call relaxing).

Avoid.

1 Jan 2006 17:16

The Hogshead, Brighton

Dont go here to watch the football, the psychopaths come out.
