The Three Compasses, Alfold

keep going tony, best real ales around. if we all act now this won't end like the crown....and a gem be lost forever.

11 Oct 2011 11:17

The Brewers Arms, Lewes

not bad but the landlady looks like rose west. very freaky.

28 Sep 2011 19:36

The Pelham Arms, Lewes

hall and woodhouse destroyed this great pub.when it was king and barnes it was brill.

28 Sep 2011 19:33

The William Bray , Shere Guildford Surrey

not very good. just because you can drive a racing car does not mean you can run a pub. much better pubs around the area.

28 Sep 2011 19:28

Yates's, High Wycombe

look i know these huge pub companies loose the feel of a traditional pub, but my god its cheap. 2 burgers and two pints of lager under 13.....in times of recession you cant argue with that.

28 Sep 2011 19:23

The Bell, High Wycombe

pub is o.k if a little pricey. but why do pubs seem to think its a good idea to have a thai restaurant inside.....makes no sense. also the yates opposite is so much cheaper, if a little lacking in tradition and atmosphere.

28 Sep 2011 19:22

The Sir Roger Titchbourne, Alfold Bars

yeah i am, but you are barking up the wrong tree. how uninspired is thepilgrim?

28 Sep 2011 19:19

The Sir Roger Titchbourne, Alfold Bars

what do you want for your money 'thepilgrim' it is clean and doing reasonably well. always seems busy when i am in the area. cracking garden in the summer, and nice young staff.

9 Sep 2011 11:53

Alfold Barn, Alfold

i must admit i have had the bad luck on a midweek of turning up later and finding the barn closed. as it is more of a restaurant than pub, they cut their cloth accordingly. i have always found it best to book midweek.

9 Sep 2011 11:51

The Crown, Alfold

closed and for sale.....need i say anymore. you will all moan when the last of these gems are gone.

9 Sep 2011 11:49

The Three Compasses, Alfold

real olde rustic and going down the swanny. Not enough people using this place. real shame as Tony is a real character. Going back on the market as so many pubcos pubs are. wake up and help the pubs.

9 Sep 2011 11:48

The Cross Keys, Thame

i havn't been for years but felt i should say that it is a cracking pub.

4 Jan 2011 18:29

The Albany, Guildford

had a meal with the kids and was very disappointed. it professes to be a gastropub, but doesn't hit the spot.

4 Jan 2011 18:24

The Thai Terrace, Guildford

very very expensive, and there are equal Thai restaurants at more reasonable prices not too far away.

4 Jan 2011 18:22

All Bar One, Guildford

as long as you are aware you are drinking in a chain, this is o.k. the food is adequate and the beer not over priced. there are a lot worse places around.

4 Jan 2011 18:14

The Punchbowl, Oakwoodhill

absolutely awful, this is amazing for the fact it is still open. i had a pork belly the size of a pack of cards- 12.95, the burger my father had was crimated and never coming back....the fish and chips was o.k until the mushy peas had frozen bits in it...the other meals were as bad, but to top it off we had a 4 drink on our bill which wasn't ours...we didn't notice until we were home. never never never going back

28 Dec 2010 16:35

The Seahorse, Shalford

very very bad. typical of a big pub company that is only interested in the share price. real shame.

19 Nov 2010 20:13

The Parrot Inn, Shalford

i think the food here is awful. my wife had a cheese jacket...the cheddar was tasteless and the jacket was out of a microwave, soft skin a giveaway. i had a steak baguette...very mediocre. my parents had a ham, egg and chips. the ham was plastic, the chips were a very poor frozen product, the egg was the only redeeming factor. the lager was good and not overpriced, but on the upside the place looks good and is tidy,

19 Nov 2010 20:11

The Crown, Chiddingfold

not a patch on the swan, but o.k for a light lunch. great building and decor.

19 Nov 2010 20:06

The Swan Inn, Chiddingfold

brilliant and super food, the place looks great.

19 Nov 2010 20:05

The Sun Inn, Dunsfold

nice pub, i don't agree with the last comment, slightly shocked.

21 Oct 2010 19:02

The Kings Arms, Horsham

i didn't like this pub...very sports bar, with some real idiots as regulars.

20 Oct 2010 12:03

The Bax Castle, Horsham

very nice food and drink...bravo

20 Oct 2010 12:02

The Onslow Arms, Loxwood

not a bad little pub with a lovely walk round it. the new owners have been there two years, which is pretty good going in this financial climate. they are quite friendly and the food is adequate.

20 Oct 2010 12:01

Red Lyon, Slinfold

i think the place needs to understand what it wants to be...a pub that does pub grub, or a gastro type pub. it is very confused at the moment. staff were not the friendliest. beer o.k

20 Oct 2010 11:58

The Hope, Chichester

this has had more makeovers than cheryl cole, apparently they want to encourage families and get rid of the students. the beer was o.k and the food not bad.

20 Oct 2010 11:56

Alfold Barn, Alfold

i am soooo shocked by the last comment. the lamb is one of my favourites at the barn, and it certainly does not come out of a packet. the meat is tender and slowly cooked over several hours, as any person with cooking knowledge would agree. i love the selection of vegetables you get (as part of your meal) and the choice of potatoes is staggering, home made chips are a real treat. as to the owner wearing shorts...he does. that doesn't put me off a place, a girl can wear a short skirt and this reviewer would be happy i suppose. having spoken to the family several times over my visits, it is more than apparent that they wouldn't know how to use a microwave, let alone do all the cooking from one. i wonder if this person made his comments to the owners on the evening, or perhaps he likes to make stories up....

18 Oct 2010 19:03

Wheatsheaf, Rudgwick

this is now being run by the fox inn owners...need i say more. see their reviews and ditto

14 Sep 2010 20:29

Selsey Arms, Horsham

i have to agree with the last comment, with modern deliveries, fresh seafood is always available. the food is basic pub grub.

14 Sep 2010 20:28

The Sir Roger Titchbourne, Alfold Bars

stopped for lunch on a monday, and the staff were very friendly and the place is nice and clean. however the food is a let down. i had a jacket with chilli, and it was that awful tinned chilli....or it was a very sad effort. my friend had the burger, not bad but frozen chips. what is wrong with these new chefs....make some chips for gods sake.

2 Mar 2010 20:30

Alfold Barn, Alfold

i am quite surpised by the last comment, as they don't do a bar menu....very odd. would this person be genuine or not? you be the judge. I go here at least once a month. the pies are the best you will try...and i mean the best, none of this pie lid trash. and the family i have grown to like very much are very friendly, maybe roythebike has attitude. they don't suffer fools believe me!!!

2 Mar 2010 20:23

The Hurtwood Inn, Peaslake

o.k for a beer and a sandwich. don't be too adventurous though.

19 Nov 2009 19:33

The Prince of Wales, Shere

i didn't think you could screw up a burger....and how expensive is this place. i think i was charged 3.90 for a lager. i won't venture back here again.

19 Nov 2009 19:31

The White Horse, Shere

awful, awful, awful.....need i say more

19 Nov 2009 19:30

Wheatsheaf, Rudgwick

this has now joined countless other pubs.....they have gone bust. when will companies like hall & woodhouse learn and support publicans instead of throttling them.

19 Nov 2009 19:22

The Kings Arms, Wheatley

used to be an excellent place about 15 years ago, it was family run by some people called maguire. the food was amazing.....sadly not any more.

28 Oct 2009 13:25

The Crown, Alfold

went in last week. it has been taken over by a very nice older couple, very friendly. they are doing a lot of curry now apparently.

27 Oct 2009 19:09

Alfold Barn, Alfold

i am stunned by the last two views....what pompous old fashioned people. the food is good and the service is great, what more do you want.
I know for a fact this guy always wears shorts and always has. we have been going here for over five years now and its always been the same.

27 Oct 2009 18:46

The Jolly Farmer, Bramley

i have never enjoyed a visit to this pub. the landlord is rude and unfriendly, and the food is over priced for what you get.

30 Sep 2009 20:52

The Owl, Kingsfold

this is an average chain type establishment. nothing to write home about, but you couldn't get too disappointed at the food and drink. nicely decorated and clean.

30 Sep 2009 20:47

The Sussex Oak, Warnham

i would have to say this is exactly what a traditional old pub should be...there are no frills and the beer is in very good condition. my only reservation would be to go for the basics on the menu, as i don't think they cope well with the more demanding dishes.

30 Sep 2009 20:42

Alfold Barn, Alfold

had a great meal here again, sounds boring to keep enjoying a place doesn't it? the service was amazing and the building always enthrawls me.

9 Jun 2009 18:54

The Crown, Alfold

i have heard this has been sold to an older couple who have not run pubs before.... when are these pubco's going to learn and invest in people with skills and experience.

9 Jun 2009 18:52

The Sir Roger Titchbourne, Alfold Bars

you can tell the people running this establishment have no clue about running a good country pub. i agree the surroundings are great, but there is no depth to the place. it is shallow and heartless. much better pubs around i.e the compasses, and much better food i.e the barn at alfold
don't waste your money, unless you like to mix with false people

9 Jun 2009 18:51

The Chequers Inn, Rowhook

average to say the least....

1 Apr 2009 19:04

Fox Inn, Rudgwick

i had an absolutely awful meal and complained. i was almost laughed at from the foreign staff, and i wasn't the only one. how this place stays open i have no idea. try the barn at alfold 3 miles towards guildford....you won't be sorry. i will not be returning here!

1 Apr 2009 18:59

The Crown, Alfold

apparently you can buy this pub for 60,000. there is a sign inside the pub. how dreadful and what a shame for our pubs today to have been brought to this.

18 Mar 2009 20:01

Alfold Barn, Alfold

i haven't been here for ages, went for valentines and it was out of this world. i hope it stays a secret so that me and my friends can keep it to ourselves.

18 Mar 2009 20:00

The Malt Shovel, Horsham

have to agree with the last comment. very good beer and friendly.

16 Nov 2007 20:23

The Pelham Arms, Lewes

i have to say this is by far one of the worst run establishments i have had the misfortune to go into. i went last month and the welcome or lack of it was astonishing. it was as if you were invisible to the staff. eventually got served my pint of badger, which was o.k. apparently you can't get harveys in this pub.....in lewes the home of harveys!! had a sandwich which was over priced and average. there are several other pubs in lewes that are a ton on this one.

16 Nov 2007 20:21

The White Horse, Hascombe

having eaten here under both sets of owners i do feel something has been lost. don't get me wrong the new owners are trying, but they will not do a childrens menu. correct me if this is not the case.
i think one of the chefs is still the same, but something has been lost in the months gone. a little tlc needs to be shown to this very nice pub.

16 Nov 2007 20:11

The Three Compasses, Alfold

biker needs to be more open minded and appreciate everyones comments. the other pubs in the village are very good. i have been drinking around this country for many years and have a pretty good idea when it comes to pubs. it is a shame he feels it so important he sticks up for one pub so earnestly, could it be he has a vested interest in this particular venue? be the judge for yourself and try this pub.....then we'll see who is being honest.

16 Nov 2007 20:07

The Crown, Alfold

i stopped here recently and have to agree that the landlord is very friendly, unfortunately he was telling some locals he is leaving. a real shame as these old pubs need a personality.

16 Nov 2007 20:02

Alfold Barn, Alfold

very good food, but i am not sure it should be on a pub site. lovely old building and the family that run it seem very friendly. this is not somewhere you would go for a drinking evening.

16 Nov 2007 20:01

The Three Compasses, Alfold

this should be in the wild west. don't go here unless you bring security....the locals don't look friendly.
