Although a local, we haven't used this pub as our local for some considerable time. Finally it appears that it has been taken over by people who care to invest time and money into updating what should always have been a beautiful pub. It now has a warm country feel and is brighter and cleaner looking than I've ever seen it. We ate and have no complaints about the food. The service was for a change, with a smile and even some friendly banter. I hope this new change is supported and look forward to having a closer and friendlier local.

We phoned on Saturday to reserve a table for Sunday lunch just in the bar area. Wanted 1:30pm but asked to make it 2pm. that was fine as we were on a day walk. however, we arrived at 12:45 said we had a table at 2 and could we eat earlier. They asked us to wait until 2pm which we were fine to do but asked if we could order before going into the garden - they said NO. Overheard that there was no more roast beef - at 12:45?? Waited until 1:50 and still they wouldn't take our order, just past 2pm they did but by then there was no roasts available only the very basic, uninspiring 'pub grub' bar menu. We left without eating, Between 12:45 and 2pm people were coming in who hadn't reserved a table and just ordering food. Extremely annoyed and will not be returning under any circumstances.

Myself and the better half visited the pub on Friday 8th Feb for the first time and we thought the service good and friendly the beer in good condition (Badgers). We had a lunchtime snack which was very tasty and was served within 15mins.
Overall we found the pub to be pleasant and welcoming will call again.

Phoned 11:30 to ask about opening on New Years Day. Told last food orders 3pm. Arrived (from 30 miles away) at 2:45pm with my wife and 86 year old French mother-in-law to be told "Kitchen closed at 2:30. We've been too busy today". Not even offered a sandwich. Deeply dissappointed. Left in disgust without even buying a drink.

This won't trigger an international incident but we certainly won't be bringing our French visitors here. In fact we won't be bringing any visitors here. It's the proprietors, Clive and Rosie's loss.
